I want to try a new class, I solo with a SK and berserker, and have about a level 25 or so fury. I looked in the forums and saw conflicting reports about Ranger soloing.Out of the scout / rogue type classes, with a good player, is a ranger soloing worthwhile? It's either that or going conj / necro, but I'd rather be more "in the face" of the critters. Are bags of arrows, at least adept 3's and poison necessary? My highest character is a 30 or so berserker, but would like something with a bit more depth.Any advice would be helpful.<div></div>

If you'd rather be 'in the face' of critters, Ranger isn't that. After the mid 20's, almost all of a Rangers damage comes off the bow. If you "like something with a bit more depth", Ranger isn't that. Rangers are DPS, that's just about it.
<div></div>Sounds like you'd rather be playing an assassin over a ranger, of the Predator classes. Yes, a bag full of arrows and a good supply of poisons are mandatory for a ranger. I have more ranged skills at 60 than you will at 30, plus I raid but my inventory consists of a 20 slot quiver and a 28 slot box full of arrows at all times plus a 28 slot box full of poisons, with some spillover into another box as well. Just to give you an idea of what rangers end up carrying around at the high end, especially if you raid.

So you might consider if that's "in the face" enough. I mean, really, we're not that different from wizards. You *will* need poisons. But that's okay; you'll learn to love them.As for the rest, it depends on how high you set the bar. Solo encounters are quite doable as a ranger - no special gear or upgrades needed. What you will need, though, is space. If you get to engage from a spot of your choosing, far away from the mob, you'll do well. If you get jumped, or have to fight in a cave, you'll have a tough time. If you control the engagement, though, you can kill solo mobs quickly. This will get you pretty good xp, but the loot from solo fights usually isn't impressive. Some people, though, define "soloing well" by how easily they can solo heroic groups. If that's your standard, then you'll need good gear, upgrades, and tactics. Most importantly, you'll need stun poison. (I gather it gets easier in the 50's with Thorny Trap though.)Rangers get a line of arts that lets us summon our own arrows. They're good enough for nearly every occasion. You will need poisons though. Did I mention that? Poisons. Yup.</span><div></div>
