I decided to ask my ranger bretheren. This is more of a tech question just curious if you guys might know the answer to it. If I were to buy KoS would it give me access to DoF zones as well? I'm kinda curious, if thats the case I'll grab it on my way home from work today.

KoS isnt out yet so we don't know for certain. But according to their fact sheet it looks like KoS will only come with the original Everquest 2 game.

So, assuming that's right:

It SHOULD come with levels 1-50, and 61-70. So if you don't have DoF...

Personally, I don't have DoF yet. Haven't needed it. I'll get it when I can actually use it though. Eventually. Same with KoS.

I think it depends where you are in the world too.For example, I believe KoS will only be available in Europe (via retail) as a trilogy. Digital download would only give you access to each expansion in turn so you'd have to purchase both. That's my understanding anyhow.

The level increase wont be part of the expansion it will be part of LU 20.For instance now you can still get to lvl 60 without DOF but good luck doing it.That said if you buy KOS and dont have DOF you can level 50-70 without DOF.

In EQ1, Kunark was the first expansion to raise the level limit. When later expansions were added, they too allowed you to level past the base-game's level 50 limit. However, to visit any particular expansion's zones, you still needed that expansion.I haven't seen any comments from the devs on the matter. But it's reasonable to assume that if you buy KoS but not DoF, you'll be able to advance in levels all the way through 70. However, you won't have access to the DoF zones. KoS is advertised as being intended for levels 55+. So you'll probably have limited options on where to hunt to rise through the early 50's.

/Agree with Shader. I don't see DoF listed as a requirement for KoS, that just wouldn't make sense. And I'd assume the increased level cap will be available to everyone, whether they purchased the expansion or not. The assertion that you can't level past 50 without DoF comes as a surprise to me...

So maybe while DoF wouldn't technically be a requirement for KoS, once you reach 50 you would need to find some other way to level up your character into the mid 50 level range. Maybe in Permafrost or Cazic Thule or some other similar zone...but seems to me the only way to level in a reasonable fashion from 50-60 would be to purchase DoF.I should do my own homework here and check out some release information on KoS. If I can find out whether DoF is included or required I'll edit this...:robothappy:Edit: Okay, as most of you probably already know:Do I have to own the original EverQuest II before purchasing Kingdom of Sky?Not if you purchase it at retail as opposed to downloading it directly from SOE. The retail version includes the original version of EverQuest II and Kingdom of Sky, so you get both for the price of an expansion. Be aware that the retail version is DVD only.
Edit: Post following mine explains everything and in a much more concise fashion. Skip this...:smileyhappy:
Message Edited by KnightOfTheWord on 01-23-200609:53 PM

Without registering DoF with your account, you can't level past 50. You have to purchase the DoF expansion to have the level cap raised to 60, otherwise, you stop gaining adventurer and tradeskill experience at level 50.From the marketing for the expansion, it sounds like KoS will go this same route. As far as DoF being included, we can only speculate. SOE is certainly not advertising its inclusion if it is in fact part of the offering. And it's possible to go through the "gap" levels 50-55 in Cazic-Thule, Everfrost, Permafrost, Lavastorm, Solusek's Eye. Then, too, you could always buy DoF for that gap.

Message Edited by Jiinx on 01-23-200610:53 PM

My guess is that when KoS comes out, you can lvl your char to 60 even if you dont have DoF or KoS bought.BUT, you cant enjoy the new zones (just like some other already said earlier).

If you buy KoS, you can lvl to 70, BUT cant enjoy the DoF zones... you WILL have to buy the DoF to be able to enjoy the zones and play there, but you DONT have to buy it if you just wanna lvl to 70...ORThey could give you access to DoF when you purchase KoS, but ill highly doubt that will happen. This is a business and im sure they're not gonna give us any freebies, since ppl WILL surely buy the DoF when they need it (atleast the majority will).++Xan

That expansion is tied to the level 60 cap. You must have DoF to level to 60; and if you want to level past 60 you will have to purchase and install KoS.On another sidenote, you would not want to level past 50 without DoF anyway; i.e. there is no content from 50-60 available for you in tier 1-5. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand.(Not a flame on you xandez, just general comments, no offense intended.)Hope this helps...
