HI all- I am new to the ranger class- just dinged lvl 20 last night- I have a few other toons to the mid 40's , but I have to say I love the ranger the best. I have been voraciously reading all the posts here and have searched for my question's answer, but am not really finding any, thus I hope you can help me along. I have the following stats 64 str 79 agil 54 sta 18 int and 34 wis- when i dinged to 20 I went and bought a full suit of chain- my mitigation is 550 and my avoidance is something like 3.8 - is this ok for my level? I started swapping back parts of my old leather and saw my avoidance go up to 6.7-, but my avoidance was never very high to begin with. What should I really be shooting for? Avoidance or mitigation? I solo most of the time as I have really odd playing times, but I have been able to group abit more lately. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Personally, I prioritize agility over everything else so that my avoidance stays high. When I hit 20 and thought about switiching armor, nearly every piece of leather armor I owned had some type of positive agility modifier. I don't remember the exact number. I was well over 100 agil and over 20% avoidance more like 25%. I decided not to upgrade a piece to chain until I found a chain piece that also had a positive agility modifier. Some people can afford to do this right away. It took me a few levels.

But that's my playstyle. I depend on stealth and avoidance. (High damage early on so that I take fewer hits in the long run.) Medium armor is never going to provide the mitigation of heavy armor, so I really think about avoidance a lot.

I have also read many of the forums. I have found and there a treads on this topic as well. I personally prioritize

1-STR, it directly effect the amount of CA and auto attack damage

2-INT, it effects proc and poison damage

3-AGI. /e hopes the mob is dead already

My reason for this and you will notice when you get higher in level, is that soloing the mob will die before it gets to hit you or be very near death (against solo mobs in your lvl range yellow-blue). I too solo 95% of the time. Good luck and try out different styles and go with what you are most comfortable with.

Message Edited by juvondy on 01-17-200608:07 PM

I think that your parry and armor skills are still not maxed, else your avoidance should be around 25-30%. I noticed that a lot with new chars in the last time that the skills in the lower levels were not maxed and it took me to mostly to around level 20-23 to finally have them maxed.

Personal experiences:

I started out like alot of Rangers trying my but to get every point of Agi I could..in my mid 40's I had like a 260 Agi, but only a str of like 130 and sta of 90. Now at 53 I switched my thining on this, Currently I am much more balanced, self buffed with Rings My Str is now 213 and Agi is about 230 stam is 120. I have about 3600 HP and 2900 Power. I can solo, easily, Yellow Con ^, and some grouped Heroics, the ones with lots o Wussie no arrows and single down arrows.

You need to keep in mind, that the one thing you do better then anyone else, is damage. Str maximizes that. When I boosted my Str in T6 my soloability went way up, and I can accomplish alot more because of it. I would also strongly suggest wearing Chain, leather is going to get you killed alot quicker once mobs get on you. With exception of Zerker / Guards, I can pull aggro anytime I want it from a tank, and have to be carefull. I am in Full chain, some Legendary, and I absorb about 35%, not great, my avoidance is still about 28%.

in closing, Str and Chain are my suggestion, but try to maintaine balance through out your stats,

PS ohe yeah...I'm a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] Ranger, I'm 33 levels higher then you and I think your INT is higher then mine........I think mines is like 27

Aye, there's no right answer here - the chain vs leather discussion has gone on for a long time and different rangers have different preferences. I prefer to go for STR over AGI and mitigation over avoidance, but that's just me, that's not "right." I favor STR b/c it increases all our damage (ranged included) while AGI only really contributes to our power pool - it doesn't seem to have a significant impact in avoidance in my experience. I favor mitigation over avoidance b/c it's a bit more of a known quantity for me - avoidance is a chance, mit is a hard value.

Plus, I look dead sexy in chainmail.

Oh, if I'm wearing chain, I have the appropriate undergarments. I just don't wear any armor or clothing unless I absolutely have to.

/streaks thru forum
