<div>ok, after posting a few threads on how do I, I been getting tons of positive feedback.  thanks all.</div><div> </div><div>So This was said</div><div> </div><div><p><font color="#ff0033">4....www.eq2alchemy.com is a good source for poison info.  The best poisons are player made and can be found on the broker.  For starting out though, and if you're on a budget, you can buy poisons from the alchemist shop in South Qeynos, last building on left before you get to the the divider to the Mage Tower.</font></p><p>I am currently standing in a shop called : " the herb jar"  I believe its the las building on the left in South Qeynos.  it shows up on my map as POISONS , and there are 3 alchemists.  AAron, Khalil and Katlyn on the second floor.</p><p> </p><p>When I examine any of the poisons on the vendors they all say i dont have the skill.</p><p> </p><p>I am lost as to where i should be getting my poisons.</p></div>

<div></div><p>Well, first things first, what is your level?  If I remember correctly, there were not that great of a number of people selling low level poisons.</p><p>Again, if I remember correctly, I believe some of the merchants in antonica (the western side) sell poisons useable by low level characters.  Mordant goo or caustic goo...something like that.  There werent too many options as a pred if I remember correctly.  Just keep checking the merchants that sell food/water/bags...those types of merchants.</p><p> </p><p>I hope this is correct and helps...been a little bit since I was a predator <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>Peace Health and Happiness</p><p>Saihung</p>

<div></div><p>speaking of poisons, since poisons were recently changed to ONLY proc on attacks from the primary weapon slot, how hard has this hit rangers? I've just started a ranger(17 pred right now), and was curious how much it effected those who were most likely accustomed to having a chance to poison from every succesful attack, namely bow attacks/combat arts. I know that my lvl 39 Brigand on the Freeport side can feel the change, particularly when fighting groups(my AE attacks often poisoned several at once)</p><p>Just interested in hearing feedback from those who have gone before me.</p>

<div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><p>Edit - poisons still proc off CA's and bows.  And the primary weapon slot.  And they still MAY proc off damage from another proc as well (imbued weapon Gleaming Strike has a chance to proc a poison when it goes off).  I haven't found it to be dibilitating, losing the secondary slot poison proc. </p><p>General Rule #1 for poisons -</p><p>Poisons come in three general varieties - damage poisons, debuff poisons and "other" poisons.</p><p>Damage poisons - These come in several varieties as well, but all fall into this class.  High Direct Damage (DD) low Damage over Time (DoT), High DoT low DD, and a couple scaled in between.  For rangers, the consensus that I've found is that we should use the high DD poisons (as high as can be found).  This is because, from what I understand, when a poison procs, it overwrites the previous proc (which means and DoT from a previous strike is wiped away).</p><p>Debuff poisons - got a few varieties here.  Usually this poison debuffs 2 abilities / stats.  For instance, I'm carrying a Crushing / Piercing debuff.  There are also the Slashing / Magic Debuff, and a variety of Stat (STR, INT, etc) debuffs.</p><p>"Other" poisons - here, we have the Stun poisons and their like.  Not as common, as these, from what I've seen, are only made by alchemist types using rares to craft the poison bottles.  Hell, if you're making inks, you're getting the rare loam anyway...</p><p>The Damage and Debuff poisons can be crafted as well, and if you have the funds, I'd say invest in some.  The pristine versions for T2 are great, and have 7 charges each (as opposed to 5 for vendor bought).  They last for 200 procs (damage) - vendor bought only proc for 100 - or (and this might be a bit off) 80 procs for the debuffs (not sure what vendor bought proc rates are).  Each charge lasts for a full 12 hours of game time (unless you hit the proc limit).  The "Other" poisons have a lower number of procs per charge (never actually gotten one yet, so I can't tell you the precise number - but it's on the forums somehwere - popular topic).</p><p><font color="#ffff00">Key Point!!!</font></p><p><font color="#ffff00">We can use 1 Damage, 1 Debuff and 1 "Other" - all at the same time!!!</font></p><p>Message Edited by Spectralmist on <span class="date_text">01-10-2006</span><span class="time_text">11:13 AM</span></p>

<div>I just found this link on a site I saw posted in the alchemy forums.</div><div> </div><div><a target="_blank" href="http://www.eq2potions.com/html/poison_guide.html">http://www.eq2potions.com/html/poison_guide.html</a></div><div> </div><div> </div><div>its a decent guide that gave me a good feal for it, Not sure how accurate it is because here in the rangers forum, everyone talks about 3 active poisons, this link proposes there is 4.</div><div> </div><div>I am not un-newbish enough to comment on who is right.  right now at level 14, i am going to assume 2 is the most I will see for a bit.</div>

<div></div><div></div><p>Ah, just scanned the site.</p><p>It looks like they are taking into account POTIONS as well as poisons.  Potions are also worth considering, for self heals and such, and work in much the same manner as poisons from what I understand.</p><p>Also, I'm not sure when that was last updated.  There is much debate on whether INT really affects poison damage or not now.  There is less debate about the poison Damage types (which is best) but that's still up for debate.  I suppose it's simple to test - get a DoT poison and check your combat logs to see if the initial proc procs again after a second strike causes a second 'initial' proc.  I personally haven't done this - got my info off the forum. I'm willing to be the Forum gods are right on this though...</p><p>Message Edited by Spectralmist on <span class="date_text">01-10-2006</span><span class="time_text">11:30 AM</span></p>

<div></div><div></div><div></div><p>I'm not sure, but I think so.  The ones to ask are the alchemists that might be able to make it.  Jewelers can make the vials, and I know there's a rare vial available for T2. </p><p>I would suggest asking in the crafting channels (qeynos_crafting or freeport_crafting) in game.  An alchemist there should be able to tell you...</p><p>ah...</p><p>Never mind. Go <a target="_blank" href="http://www.eq2alchemy.com/Shader/potions.html">Here</a></p><p>The T2 stun poison, as noted in the link, is called Visions of Dementia</p><p><span class="time_text">Where to buy?  Only available from crafters (alchemists).  You can search to see which alchemists are online, which are LFW (looking for work) and where they are.  Or, you can check the broker to see if any are available (not really likely - but possible)</span></p><p>Message Edited by Spectralmist on <span class="date_text">01-10-2006</span><span class="time_text">11:49 AM</span></p>

Just one small thing to add, when you do find an alchemist, stick with him/her.  They will be your best friend.  I've found personally being a "loyal customer" has a ton of benifits.  My alchy knows about how much of each poison I will go through in a week, and always has them ready for me.  The other benifit for me is cost.  I've been using the same alchy for 25 or so lvls, and get a really nice discount on my poisons because of it.  Just some food for thought.<div></div>

<div>how realistic is it to believe I will make my own?</div><div> </div><div>not that I am cheap of anything, but I want to dable in crafting, just havent decided which to do it in.</div>

<div></div><p>If you follow the following path in Tradeskilling:</p><p>Artisan - Scholar - Alchemist</p><p>You will be able to make your own poisons for the rest of your career. </p><p>If you follow this route (which I did):</p><p>Artisan - Scholar - Jeweler</p><p>You will be able to make all T1 and T2 poisons (up to level 19 as a scholar).  After that, while you'll be able to make the poison vials (and you can't have crafted poisons without one!), you'll need to find an Alchemist to make the actual poison.</p><p>Note - Jewelers also make Scout Combat Art upgrades (this is why I went this way). </p><p>I have to say though, if you're going to be doing any tradeskilling, check into the various tradeskill classes and choose the one you like the most (for whatever reason).  After a bit, you'll find that you'll develop relationships with other crafters, and you'll be able to find someone to help you out for a reasonable price.  If you need something crafted, it's best to get the raws for it (or at least any rare materials that might be needed) and ask in the Crafting channels in game for an available crafter.  There might not always be one available RIGHT NOW, but if you are patient, you'll find someone.</p><p>I've found that I've needed crafted stuff from Woodworkers (bows), Weaponsmiths (dual wield weapons), Tailor (Quiver for my arrows (has slots like a bag - you'll want one!), Alchemists (poison, and a lot of it!), and Provisioners (food).  I make my own Combat Upgrades (CA's), and I also make Jewelry (imbued rings anyone?  or perhaps a nice Palladium Torque?)</p><p>I currently want some boxes (Carpenters make these) and bags (back to the Tailor).  You'll find that there is no one class that 'does it all'.</p>

That is, when you're level 40, you won't want to be using level 20 poisons in general.Personally, I love being an alchemist.  But I didn't choose it just so I could make my own poisons.  I chose it because the craft as a whole appealed to me. </span><div></div>

<div></div><div>Man, I'm so glad that those of you who are newer members of the community are willing to help each other. I don't think I can keep rewriting the same posts about using poisons anymore. <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<div>ok, well I have been thinking of going Jewler as well, but I was also thinking of having a alt grinding alchemy.</div><div> </div><div>since I havent played all that much, and I am a total newb,  is it possible to have a level 10 ALT, and make him level 40-70 crafter?  or is there min / max that they can be apart.</div><div> </div><div>all of the material will come from the ranger, but i thought I would enlist my son to grind crafting, but he isnt too into hunting, So i know the crafting will out level the  adventuring pretty early.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div></div>The problem with the level discrepancy b/w adventuring and crafting is that you either can't make gear for yourself if your <strong>adventure</strong> level is significantly higher (not a big deal), or you can't survive the zones you need to harvest in if your <strong>crafting </strong>level is significantly higher (much bigger problem). Not much of an issue if you're just using your alt to craft (and you have a main adventurer who harvests for your crafter alt), but if you're planning to have the crafter be self-sufficient, it can get tricky to get the raws you need without spending a lot to buy them on the market.

Well, yeah... But harvesting among hostiles is FUN!<div></div>
