<div>Ok, so I found this in a earlier thread.</div><div> </div><div><div><font color="#ffff00">I'm surprised to read this post too - I had a blast as a pred.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">Some things I did -</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">1 - read the forums and ask (here preferably about ranger stuff - but ask) any questions you might have.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">2 - upgrade as many of your CA's (by the way - your 'weapons' are the short sword and dagger you're using, not the icons in your hotbars - you are dual wielding a slashing weapon and a piercing weapon, aren't you?) as possible. Find a scholar or jeweler willing to make App 4's for you. If you happen to come across a rare silver or coral, that can be used to make an Adept 3 - which is much better.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">3 - might want to upgrade your weapons to the rare versions - auto-attack doesn't do much, but every little bit helps.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">4 - poison. You can use more than one at a time! One damage poison (I use a high direct damage type), and one debuff poison (I use a piercing / magic one - I think). You can buy them in any of the local fringe towns for the lower levels, and in SQ for the higher levels. Note - you can also buy them on the broker, or ask a scholar or an alchemist (or a jeweler or a sage for T2 as well) to make you some. Crafted poisons do more damage!!!!</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">5 - Technique. This forum is full of techniques that several generations of Rangers have developed. A simple "How do I" post (like this one by the way!) will have them pouring out for you. By the way - I do this...</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">As a pred, first I stealthed. I'd open an attack with Shadow Blade. I'd hit my HO, Hit my Cheap Shot (Adept 3 this one - you'll be using it FOREVER! Even level 60). Move behind the mob again while he's stunned (doesn't work that well in groups, but single mobs are toast) and stealth while doing so. Hit with the other Stealth attack, and then Pierce (to complete HO). If he's still standing, I let the auto-attack do some damage, and then Cheap Shotted him again.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">Note - very soon (if you haven't already) you'll get a skill (can't remember the name) that allows you to strike from flank (not stealthed) and drops you into stealth when you do it. Using this, it's the same as above, but without Hide. use the CA instead (doing damage AND stealthing) and carry on from there.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">6 - If you go ranger, the Bow is your Friend! Pristine Imbued Bone Longbow for T2. Pristine Imbued Fir Longbow for T3! There are quest bows out there that aren't bad too. With my Fir bow, I can have a mob dead before he even reaches me with 2 CA's. If you're carrying a shortbow bought off the merchant, ditch it.</font></div><div><font color="#ffff00"></font> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">All you more experienced Rangers out there - feel free to add to this - still learning myself...</font></div><div> </div><div> </div><div>FYI, I am a level 13 Predator, with apprentice 2 everything. (the 1silver ones from the vendor)</div><div> </div><div>So, I have a few questions.</div><div> </div><div> 1 - Doing that, getting lost in the learning curve.</div><div> </div><div>2 - I see upgrade your CA (combat abilities I think) I dont understand what you mean by piercing/ slashing, I just found out I can dual weild with dual wielding weapons (odd that you cant dual wield with a 1h and dual weild, but what ever)</div><div> </div><div>3 - upgrade to the rarest? too new to understand, I have just been using what I found, except now that I know I can Dual weild I am trying a Tribal spear and tomahawk.</div><div> </div><div>4 - I just found out this morning that a level 10 scout can use poisons, wow! ok, where can I find a all inclusive guide on making, using, get ... kind of info?</div><div> </div><div>5 - one thing I find frustrating at this point, is that all my attacks are melee, but I want to be rangers. I have tried using a bow to pull, but they rush in, and I loose valuable time switching to melee, and as well loose the ability to stealth strike. I know I am only level 13, and praying things get better soon.</div><div> </div><div>6 - "<font color="#ffff00">Pristine Imbued Bone Longbow for T2" </font>I am not sure what a "for T2" is.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>one thing I dont see stapled to the to of the forums is an extensive guide or links to one. does anyone have a decent site to where I can consume tons of info?</div><div> </div><div>please and thanks.</div><div> </div><div> </div></div>
<div></div><p>I'll see what I can do about answering some of these for you.</p><p>2....Piercing/Slashing. Examine your weapons, they will say if they are pierce or slashing. It's usually a good idea to have one of each equipped so you raise your skill in them as you fight. Eventually you will fight mobs that are immune to one weapon type, so you switch that out for the other weapon type. For that reason, many rangers would carry around 4 weapons. Two piercing (Dagger, Kris, Leafblade) and 2 slashing (Axe, shortsword, spatha).</p><p>3....by upgrading to rarest they are meaning get imbued bone bow and feysteel weapons, or things like that.</p><p>4....www.eq2alchemy.com is a good source for poison info. The best poisons are player made and can be found on the broker. For starting out though, and if you're on a budget, you can buy poisons from the alchemist shop in South Qeynos, last building on left before you get to the the divider to the Mage Tower.</p><p>5....All of your attacks will be melee untill level 20. At 20 you become an actual Ranger, rather than just a predator so you won't get any real bow skills till then. Even at that, you're just starting as a Ranger so you'll really be relying on those melee skills till you get to your mid 30's. At that point you'll have more bow skills so you can start gearing towards the Range part of a Ranger.</p><p>6....T2 references Tier 2. There are currently 6 tiers in the game 3-10 is T (or tier) 1, 11-20 is T2, 21-30 is T3, 31-40 is T4, 41-50 is T5 and 51-60 is T6. There are different rare items you get from harvesting/fighting to correspond with each tier (ie. T5 rare metals are Ebon, Rhodium and Ruthenium (sp?) and the gem is Ruby, T6 is Cobalt, Vanadium & Pearl).</p><p>Hope this helps. If you still have questions, search the boards or just post and ask and someone will answer them for you, they always do.</p>

<div>I think Dem did a great job responding to this post. I just want to add that another very helpful site is <a target="_blank" href="http://www.ogaming.com">www.ogaming.com</a> It's handy site for searching for info on quests, mobs, and equipment (armor and weapons).</div>

<div><div>FYI, I am a level 13 Predator, with apprentice 2 everything. (the 1silver ones from the vendor)</div><div>Hey Mengalor,</div><div> </div><div>I am a 58 ranger been playing for over a year now. I tried to answer your questions as best I could. I am sure others will chime in as well. Keep posting in the ranger forums as we can help you the best<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> see my answers in Red.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>So, I have a few questions.</div><div> </div><div> 1 - Doing that, getting lost in the learning curve.</div><div> </div><div>2 - I see upgrade your CA (combat abilities I think) I dont understand what you mean by piercing/ slashing, I just found out I can dual weild with dual wielding weapons (odd that you cant dual wield with a 1h and dual weild, but what ever)</div><div><font color="#cc0000">Yes CA stands for combat abilities. CA can be upgraded from Apprentice, Adept, to MAster. In each tier you have I, II, III, IV. What gets confusing is that there are no App3s and no Adept2s and no Master III,IV. Obviously, the higher the tier the more powerful the effect. Also, as a scout you have two ways of dealing damage - either with piercing weapons or slashing weapons. Each is a seperate skill. If you look at your list of skills under your persona window you will see 2 seperate entries for these skills. it is best to keep these at their max. To do this it is recommended to use one piercer and one slasher in each hand. If you examine the weapon it will tell you whether it is piercing or slashing. </font></div><div><font color="#cc0000"></font> </div><div><font color="#cc0000">Yes the dual wield thing is odd but once you get used to it - not so bad. The weird thing is scouts cannot use crsuhing (blunt) weapons.</font></div><div>3 - upgrade to the rarest? too new to understand, I have just been using what I found, except now that I know I can Dual weild I am trying a Tribal spear and tomahawk.</div><div> </div><div><font color="#cc0000">Every weapon has a tier it comes from - Common, Treasured, Legendary, Fabled with Fabled being the best. What they mean is use the highest tier weapon possible because they do more damage. The best weapons a non-raiding player can usually get is legendary adn they are gotten by harvesting rare metal from nodes. For example, Thundering Steppes is t3 if I went out and harvested from the rocks in TS i would almost always get a carbonite cluster. This is the common metal from that zone. I can get weapons and armor made from this metal. However, if I am really lucky I would get a steel cluster which is the rare metal from that zone. I can make better armor and weapons from this steeel cluster than I can from the carbonite. Unless you have a lot of money it is hard to keep everything legendary unless you harvest alot.</font></div><div> </div><div>4 - I just found out this morning that a level 10 scout can use poisons, wow! ok, where can I find a all inclusive guide on making, using, get ... kind of info?</div><div><a target="_blank" href="http://www.eq2alchemy.com"><font color="#cc0000">www.eq2alchemy.com</font></a> <font color="#cc0000">You will not make your own poisons as as scout unless you are an alchemist as well. You can buy posions from NPCs in South Qeynos for a little bit of silver or you can buy player made posions for alot more money. The player made are a lot better but are also more expensive. Again, like weapons, posions come in tiers as well - common crafter or legendary. I am in T6 and legendary posions cost between 11g-17g.</font></div><div>5 - one thing I find frustrating at this point, is that all my attacks are melee, but I want to be rangers. I have tried using a bow to pull, but they rush in, and I loose valuable time switching to melee, and as well loose the ability to stealth strike. I know I am only level 13, and praying things get better soon.</div><div><font color="#cc0000">You are not a ranger yet so you do not have many bow attacks. Honestly, rangers do not feel so rangery until late 20s where we get several very powerful bow shots. As a predator you should be using cheap shot (6 second stun) to kill you enemies. You can stun them move behind them to use a back attack or stealth attack. Always start the fight off with your highest hitting attack. Aslo, you should not be fighting heroic mobs (i.e. mobs with ^^^).</font></div><div> </div><div>6 - "<font color="#ffff00">Pristine Imbued Bone Longbow for T2" </font>I am not sure what a "for T2" is.</div><div><font color="#cc0000">T refers to the Tier of the weapon. Their are 6 tiers in the this game that coincide with your player level. t1 = 1-10 t2 = 10-20 t3 =20-30 t4=30-40 t5= 40-50 t6=50-60. The bone longbow is a T2 weapon and thus best for players 10-20. You can use it at higher levels but it becomes less and less effective. As a general rule, you should be using weapons from the tier you are in.</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000"></font> </div><div><font color="#cc0000">Let us Rangers know if you need any more help!</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000"></font> </div><div><font color="#cc0000">Elbryan</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000">58 Ranger</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000">Blind Guardians</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000">Everfrost</font></div></div>

A note about poisons: At the lower levels, you may have trouble finding player-made poisons on the broker. Or if you do, there's a good chance they'll be horribly expensive. Don't feel bad if you can only afford the NPC-sold poisons at first. Of course, if you have alchemist friends and guildmates, or can find some alchemists with their LFW (looking for work) tags on, you should be able to make a deal.<div></div>

<div></div><p>You cheap shot stun is 6 seconds on non-heroic mobs. That is all mobs without an ^ in their name. On mobs with any ^ that is ^,^^, or ^^^ you stun will only last 2 seconds or until the target take damage. Upgrading cheap shot has been discussed ad nauseum but there is no consensus on whether it is better. I am still using the same version I had when I got it and I am 58 now. I dont think it upgrades. It is 6 seconds on non-heroic and 2 secs on heroic no matter what level of upgrade. There are much better skills to upgrade at your level such as open shot.</p><p> </p><p>Elbryan</p><p>58 Ranger</p><p> </p>
