Does anyone know the rule of thumb for stacking poisons? I just purchased a few rare poisons only to find out they are not stackable. Instead of wasting charges, I was hoping there was a general rule of knowledge as to how it works.

Regards,

Kyrra Del

Sleepless Knights

Yes this would be helpful...I also seem to sometimes waste charges.

Im still new at this myself, but to my knowledge there are 3 types of poisens. Direct damage,Debuff and Stun. You can have on of each type up at all times but they dont stack within each group. So I usually have a direct damage poisen up with a poisen to decrease mitigation to slashing and piercing and if Im lucky enough to have the cash, a stun poisen. You cant have 2 direct damage or 2 Debuffs up together. Buaf 41 Ranger Faydark

Tobann is almost right. There are actually four types of poisons (pulled this from www.eq2alchemy.com so I can't take credit):

a normal damage poison (i.e. small direct damage with large damage over time, 25%)
an extreme damage (i.e. a rare poison that has a larger damage component, 15%)
a common debuff (i.e. poison debuff, 20%)
a rare debuff (i.e. slow, 15%)

If I recall correctly the rare debuffs don't become available till T3, and the extreme damage don't become available till T4. EQ2Alchemy has some really good information about what poisons are available at each tier.

There are only three types of poison: Damage (25%), Debuff (20%), and Misc (15%). There are both common and rare versions for each type. The stacking rules allow you to have one of each poison type up at a time i.e. three types = three poisons up.

Just look at your poisons and check the percentage chance it has to proc. You can have one type of poison from each percentage class up. If you apply a poison with the same proc percentage it will override the current one you have applied.

Thanks for the information: I guess I'm being dense, but how can you get three poisons "loaded" if I only have 2 slots?

Kyrra

37 Ranger

Dont have to equip them to use them.

Hotbar your poison vials so you just have to click a button. You can apply the poisons from within any spot in your inventory; you don't have to equip them in a charm slot anymore.

And yes, one each of the 25%, 20%, and 15% proc rates - that's your rule of thumb right there.

You need to keep an eye on your poisons when activated, depending on the quality and usages some of them can run out fairly fast in a good fight. Some of the Rare poisons have a short life span compared to the other player crafted

Hi guys I found this interesting. I think stackability has to do with potion color as well as % to hit. I've using Translucent Sting of Night and Translucent Visions of Lunacy, and they don't stack. Both are red poisons the first is 25% and second is 15%. The nuances of poison stacking. I'm about to hit lvl 40, any tips on which poisons you guys think will work well together?

You have to look at the effect of the poisons. Only 1 damage, 1 debuff, and 1 misc. will stack at any given time. I have a DOT poison that does high DOT damage, but only has 15% chance to proc. I also have a very high DD, very low DOT that has a 25% to proc. You cannot stack these two potions together, because they both do damage. The color of the poison refers more to the type (High DD-Low DOT vs. Low DD, High DOT for example.) The EQ2 Alchemy site that was linked above it a great resource for finding information about the poisons and their types/effects. It's a must read for anyone that's using poisons.

The quality only matters as to how many charges each vial has.

It's as clear as mud! I understand now the general concepts of the three types. However, it is not clear what vial falls into what category when you actually looking at them in the game. Sure it's easy to guess at the damage or the buffs posions. Where it gets difficult for me is in the "misc" category. I'm a lvl 38 Ranger and I favor using Touch of the Beholder to stun the mobs and then one of the rare DD/DOT posions. This seems to work well for me. So now, what else should I stack?

I'm very familiar with the eq2alchemist site (I have a alchemist alt) but even there it's not clear what would fall into misc. Do any of you know specific poisons in this category that you use as your bread and butter?

Kyrra

38 Ranger - Sleepless Knights

Damage is a poison that does damage. Debuff is any poison that debuffs something. Then you have stun/stifle/Slow/Explosive. So I might use Wave of Decomposition for my damage, Frantic Petulance for my debuff, and Wave of Deterioration (Slow).

One more nuance - it may matter which order you apply your poisons when stacking them. (Our class is nothing if not complex.)
