Hit level 30 last night and looking for a good bow. Any suggestions and where to get them and how hard they are to get? Preferably a Long bow type as I like the range and damage on those better than short ones. Thanks!

Message Edited by Taeolen on 12-27-2005 07:40 AM

I started using Stormfire at 28 and stuck with that up until the mid-30s, when I switched to Bloodlet. But this was back before imbues, and it really pays to get an imbued longbow b/c of proc rate. I'd set your sights on an imbued rare (oak?) longbow for your 30s, and maybe get an imbued briarwood longbow to tide you over while harvesting or earning the cash to buy the rare wood. Good luck.

Ok, I'll have to check out those options. Not much cash though but been getting lucky with drops lately so might be able to afford something like that. Some of the prices are rough for a newbie hehe.

Reason why I was wanting to look at quest rewards first.

Jay42 talked about Stormfire, which I think you should look into :smileyhappy: It’s free, besides the time it takes to wait for some of the spawns for the quest and is a good bow overall. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a proc, but it’s free and you get exp + loot while getting it. I actually just stopped using mine last night at level 42, picked up an imbued cedar bow.

Oh yeah another thing you may want to look into getting is the Polished Granite Tomahawk (quest), which has a good proc. I just became aware of this awesome weapon recently and did the quest...needless to say I missed out on using it for a lot of levels (think you can start using it at 32), but I know that there are a lot of rangers on the board that still us it for the proc even at level 60. Check it out :smileyhappy:

Thanks, I'll check out Stormfire then. Where do I get this bow?

I have also seen a bow on the Broker called Sureshot Bow. Where does this bow come from?

Who gives the PGT quest? I remember having a PGT on my Ranger in EQ1 long ago.

I know Stormfire comes out of Stormhold which is accessed thru Antonica and Sureshot is from Zek (both require a quest to be done). I linked the site I use for all my quest, item, and map information I need. Its the best site I have found :smileyhappy:

http://www.eq2.ogaming.com/

Good Luck and Happy Hunting :smileyhappy:

**Disclaimer: These quest rewards may have changed since I finished them several months ago.**

Sureshot and Bloodlet are both possible rewards for the Operation Green Hood quest in Zek. (This is the quest that grants you access to Deathfist Citadel.) At the end of the quest you'll need to turn in an intangible 'key' to an NPC. (It's a little buggy / confusing IIRC, so read the write-up.) You can speak to the Glademaster or to Captain Vulis. Each of them has a collection of items that you can pick from, with the Glademaster offering Sureshot and Vulis offering Bloodlet.

When *I* finished this, Bloodlet was the better bow, just had a higher level requirement. However, according to one comment on the Ogaming pages for Bloodlet and Sureshot, the two are now identical. I can't verify this from personal experience, but if anyone learns more in the course of completing this quest, please post share it with us. Thanks.

I got my imbued bow at lvl 28...couldn't use till 30, but man was it worth the wait. The imbued bow seems to proc all the time. The Stormfire quest is kind of a pain in the @$$, while I was xping in SH we camped some masters off lord andros. I was able to trade 2 masters for the Wood and the other component( i forget what it is) and had the bow made for 5g.

I finished the Greenhood Quest last night. Sureshot had the exact same damge as Stormfire but the stats was better except Agi which was 3 or 4 less than Stormfire. The Level for Stormfire was 28 while Sureshot is 31 if I remember correctly.

There is more Str on Sureshot so I switched until I can find my Glimmering harvest for my Oak.

No problem, Taolen. The Ogaming site is VERY helpful... some would say mandatory.

Berek, thanks for posting that info - that's really weird that Bloodlet (and presumably Sureshot) are now so comparable to Stormfire. Kinda disappointing actually, but I guess I just feel that way b/c I moved through those bows in a linear progression, and back in the day you couldn't equip Bloodlet til 34 or 35, IIRC. I didn't own an imbued bow until my cedar at 40.

The odd part is when I finished the GH quest-I did not see Bloodlet. I saw Sureshot and a onehanded weapon (sword)-both usable by my Ranger, Mammoth of course, Staff and a couple 2 handed weapons. I am wondering if they moved Bloodlet somewhere else.

There's two different people you can talk to at the end of the greenhood quest. One is the greenhood fellow, the other is an orc. The orc gives the more "evil" weapons like Bloodlet, Treebane?, some others. The greenhood gives the Sureshot, Mammoth, the Stonepine Blade (1hs), etc. That's how I remember it, anyway.

Ah hah. Well that makes perfect sense. I hope I didn't screw up in taking Sureshot instead of Bloodlet. Are the Ability stats the same?

Side note for those working on Bows. I have a buddy who just finished his Imbued Oak Longbow. I compared it to Sureshot. Sureshot is a better weapon except the Gleaming strike for what it is worth.

Sigh.....I was afraid of that. I gave him my last Glimmering Item for his bow. Off to the Harvest Nodes I guess.

Since I am halfway to 40 should I just wait and do the next Rare Wood Bow?
