Hey all,

I just reactivated my account after about a 4 month break. I'm a level 37 Ranger who has pretty much always grouped. Lately, I've been trying to get access to Splitpaw and seem to be having a hard time soloing a group of 3-5 mobs. I get pounded on so fast before I can kill them and in melee range with a group of mobs like that I can't seem to do enough damage fast enough. My spells are pretty good and I have decent gear. Any advice for soloing a pack of mobs as a ranger? I keep dying so what I'm doing isn't working.

I'm assuming I should go into my defensive stance, stealth in there hit a gnoll with my master 2 spell then wail away until I get down to one then I can cheap shot stun / slow and use my bow. Just feeling pretty weak at the moment soloing and I want to experience all the solo content added since I've been gone. Thanks in advance for you help.

Target the healer mob from a long range and pull with your ranged CAs. You have to drop him before the other mobs get to you. Then kill the other casters, and do the tank(s) last. If The healer mob gets a heal off break the encounter and start over. You can tell pretty early in the fight how it's going to go. So if it's going bad, cut and run. You can always come back try again.

As said above start at max range with your best Bow CA on the healer. Try and burn it down before they get to you. Next target any other healer or mage and cheap shot it. Take a few steps back and unload 1-2 Bow CA's. It's very unlikely the double and triple down arrow mobs on you will interupt you. While cheap shot is refreshing use your melee CA's. Once cheap shot is up again stun a mob, move back and fire bow shots again.

The biggest key is to locate the healer and caster mobs to take out first. Pay attention to the mob names and see what they are doing to you. Shouldn't take to long to learn which mobs need to die first. And use cheap shot / bow shots as much as possible.

as said above, kill healer first on the pull shots and if he doesn't drop on that just bash the rest out of him when he get's to you. then the cheap shot - step back - bow shots game on the rest, casters first. if you are not going to kite, forget the slow. if you use it, then only for the fire debuff.

i wanted to add that it may be better to start off in offensive stance, so you got extra damage on the pull. and if you have more casters on you then mellee, stay in offencive, cause defensive is no use against nukes and just lowers your damage output. i only go to defensive stance if i have hard hitting mellees on me.

--------------------------
Ryilan Nightbreeze
--------------------------

If you're looking for tips specifically regarding Harclave's Trial, I wrote a brief (sorta) walkthrough a while back. You can find it here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=39&message.id=9947&query.id=307192#M9947

Hope it helps, good luck in there.

" in the name, "Tesch ... " are fighters, "Nisch .. " Healers and "Leth .. " are scouts. I still havent testet Splitpaw with my ranger, however with other chars i normally also startet with the casters first because the do heavy damage, specially pet casters, but die quick.

One of the things I enjoy quite a bit, though it may not yield the maximum damage, is to open with stealth ranged (e.g. Hidden Shot), plunk another ranged CA while mob is running to you, engage in melee, debuff, stun, leap over the mob, immediately use stealthing positional, land Shadow Lunge (or whatever), then back up just enough to plunk Sniping Shot or rear positional ranged CA.

Usually kills most things non-heroic before they touch ya! Best thing about it is that you are fully engaged in the encounter, believe me!

Sheyrkhan

35 Ranger

Lucan D'Lere
