Hiya Folks,

I've been kiting heroic mobs lately, but I've had one problem thats a pain in the @$$. I'll be kiting, say a giant in TS, and all the sudden he'll disengage and run back to his spot full health. Therefore wasting my time and being a pain in my @SS, anyone else notice this or find a way to keep em comin after you?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Message Edited by valerik on 12-20-2005 01:13 PM

You're running a route that's too large. Keep the route you run between your starting point and the starting point of the mob, and you should be good
Message Edited by illumin on 12-20-2005 01:37 PM

yeah there's a distance limit on encounters for them to stay active...

i havea question for you tho, you're kiting mobs? is this with ranged auto attack or with CAs? from what i can see only 1 CA line (sniping shot) will let you use it while moving, but you have to be behind the target to begin with...or is it you are stunning, running back firing a bow CA then rinsing and repeating...

i only ask b/c i'm currently re-learning my ranger since LU 13, he's not my main and i pretty much gave up on him before LU 13 b/c rangers were pretty much unsoloable to me (partly b/c i was clueless on how to play one), i have to say i'm starting to really get into him and enjoy playing him now that i can solo with him

Upgrading your Snare line and using it well can give you the time to create space to fire your bow CA's. It takes some time to learn to do it well but just because you can't fire CA's on the run doesn't mean you can't use them while kiting.

The snare duration is static but the % decrease in mob run speed increases when you upgrade the skill. The higher the upgrade the slower the mob runs but the duration stays the same.

Upgrades to Cheap Shot just effects level of mobs it can be used on I think? As to kiting, you're struggling to use any bow CAs on the move. We get one at around 40 that can be used while moving (and it's a beauty, get it straight up to Adp III!!!), outside of that you just use your speed de-buffs (snares) and let your poisens do the work with your auto attack. If you get enough distance in by all means fire off a CA, but you're better off loosing a Leg Shot or whatever it's called to keep them slow. Other classes can do something similar by rooting mobs and DoTing them, but that doesn't cost them any money. We have to spend good coin on poisens. Can cost a fortune to do something other classes can do for free. Oh, and they don't have to keep running around backwards. And can do it in small spaces. Crying shame we're overpowered...

I haven't tried kiting/soloing heroics since the mob runspeed change, and I'm pretty sure I'm screwed when it comes to kiting. I guess I'm gonna have to try my tactics and if they don't work as well anymore I'll have to come up with something else.

Casters also need mana to do ANY damage, when they are OOM they are screwed while you guys can just use auto attack. Rangers don't need poisens to do damage like casters need mana, they choose to use poisens.

BTW if you going to talk about casters why not just say it?

Message Edited by stgninja on 01-03-2006 10:55 AM

Like a couple posters said you need to run them around closer to their starting point. And to add to the kiting discussion, don't forget that you can use a lot of your melee skills from extended ranges on the move. That way you can hit him with some HOs and some extra damage.
