<DIV>I'm going to duel a ranger 4 levels higher than me this evening. I am 48 and he is 52. I also have a level 50 alchemist so I've loaded up on the legendary poisons/potions/cures. I bought a set of poison resist gear so my poison restance is a little over 3000. I REALLY want to win this fight. I don't duel much at all.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I know that the other ranger will be using Touch of the Beholder(stun poison) which I have as well. He is wearing all Cobalt gear, head to toe. I'm wearing leather, primarily becuase at my level I can't out-mitigate him so I'm hoping to out-avoid him. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have a few questions though. Willmy alchemist cures work on Cheap Shot stuns. If so, is it arcane or noxious to cure it? 6 seconds is a long time to be stunned! I'm thinking of using my defensive stance in the beginning just in case, this puts my avoidance around 57%, up from 32% if I use my offensive ranged stance. I figure if I can get the first stun off then I'm golden, all of my ranged attacks are adept 3 or better as are my stances and self buffs. I will also be using a 25 point damage shield, not sure if this will do any good, but it's better than nothing. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm figuring I should probably get a Vision totem as well. Can I use this before the fight starts?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am considering opening by running backwards with Sprint up and casting Surveil for a quick invis that i can cast while moving. Then positioning myself for a Cheap Shot, all while praying that she doesn't have a Vision Totem as well. Once she's stunned I will lay into her with my Triple shot, then the rest of my non positional bow strikes ending with Sharp shot (hoping stun poison will proc on this one). At this point if she isn't dead I'm not real sure what I'll do. Probably try and get another invis/cheapshot off. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any suggestions/strategies would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll get a few responses before about 7:00 EST.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks in advance,</DIV> <DIV>FunkBuddha</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PS I'm gonna try and record it as well, if I win I'll post the link.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>A couple things.</P> <P>If he does not have a totem, go into sneak before the fight starts, this will break his contact with you. You can use your see sneak totem before the fight, so if he goes into sneak, it will not break his contact on you and you will be able to see him the whole time. If he cannot see you, get right on him, when the fight starts use cheap shot. Back away, using debilitating shot, followed by sharp shot and triple shot. If he is not dead by then (which he should be), go into surviel and Hidden fire his [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]. This will work perfectly if he does not have a see sneak totem, and with stun poisons, he wont have a chance to hit you. DO NOT GO INTO DEFENSIVE STANCE. In a scout duel, whoever gets the first hit in wins. </P> <P>Considering you both have see sneak totem on you will want to change tactics.</P> <DIV>If you think your faster, you can still use the cheap shot teqhnique, but know that the first scout that hits it will probably win. The other thing you can do is open up with sharp shot. Make sure you have distance so the other ranger doesnt try to cheap shot you. Alot of rangers like starting with something like storm of arrows (level 50), this is a three second cast timer i believe, and sharp shot disrupts it. Remember that if your both using see stealth totems, if anyone goes into sneak, it wont matter, so dont even bother if you think the other ranger has the totem. The other ranger can out damage you straight up, so if you use the sharp shot move, follow right with tripple shot, if 5 arrows doesnt get your stun proc going, your just an unlucky [Removed for Content] haha. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is what I would do, you can take my word for it or not, but considering that I have been known to duel for money for as high as 4 and 5 plat, (with a 20 plat duel coming up this weekend i believe) I think im a decent source for this. Thanks and good luck. Oh yeah, and if you have time, try to throw on one of your increase range buffs for the fight. They could be just enough to help with the 4 level difference. I would not waste time with the 25 point ward, with the dps we do it is useless.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good Hunting to you</DIV>

<P>Since he's a couple of levels higher than you, you're gonna have to play dirty if you want a better chance of beating him. Hopefully there will be a crowd of people there to watch your duel, if not, invite a crowd to watch. One of the best things to do is to start the duel with an invis even before the count down timer has expired, so he will loose you. Yes you will become visable again once the duel starts but, if you're in that crowd of people, he will have a very difficult time trying to target you again. From that point you can pretty much be assured the first attack of your choice. Best of luck.</P> <P> </P>
<DIV>Hmm use a stunpoison and the highest DD poison you can. also get a totem of the butterfly to see his stealth. When i start a duel i'm as far away as possble and my autorange is on before the count down goes off so you might want to add that to your hotbar. Now as soon as the count down goes off, I'm using a longbow btw, a arrow will fire and most of the time my stun poison will go off from it if this happens start laying into him with arrows and he should stay stunned and hopefully you'll come out victorious without a scratch on you <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I would also suggest using a potion to raise agi for avoidance since your wearing leather and also a potion to raise your HPs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PS if you both stand toe-to-toe it will be luck of the draw as to who's cheapshot will land and stun</DIV> <P>Message Edited by T0D3R on <SPAN class=date_text>12-09-2005</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>09:25 AM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by T0D3R on <span class=date_text>12-09-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:29 AM</span>
Instead of ToB, he might be using the T6 stun poison, phantasmic vision which will have a higher resistance. A 3000 resist will not counter it completely. If you can get your resist up to 5k or 5200, you'll be golden. He might also use thorny trap. That could be brutal for you.<div></div>

Thorny trap only works against classes with pets, putting it down in a duel will not set it off if the person does not have a pet.

<DIV>At 48 I killed a lvl 52 ranger pretty easily. At 53 I killed a 57. 95% of the fight is who gets the cheapshot off first. A potion won't cure you, because you can't activate the potion until you're unstunned. </DIV> <DIV>Dueling a ranger in the next tier as you is tough. His autoattcks do almost twice the damage, his backstab is twice the damage, he has a fast cast - non-invis 1800-2000dmg skill (which is the highest damage art you get until lvl 54, and get stealthy fire). So.. stun, poison, and try not to die. At 48, I was using chain... the extra 3% avoidance doesnt' really matter. </DIV>
