I just started this game with a few of my friends and noticed that I could only be a Ranger if I started in Qeynos. I know about the betrayal quest, but i don't want to do that becuase i am currently playing with my friends and I want to play the game with them. My question is: Can an assassin use bows, and if so how much different is it than a ranger?(power, effectiveness, and just all around usage) I definetly want to use a bow, so hopefully I don't have to go through this long process.

to clarify: you still can play with your friends even when you betrayed. evil and good can group (if that is your concern).

to your questions: yes, assassins can use bows. they have 4 ranged skills (which can be used with any ranged weapons). as a ranger you have more bow attacks, plus some mellee with extended range. you are restricted to bow as ranger.

rangers have more ranged - some positional/stealth based - while assassins have more mellee stealth/backstab attacks. that's the main difference.

i now have 8 or so bow attacks, and several other attacks with longer range then mellee.

have a look at the CA/spell lists here:

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/classes/index.vm

--------------------------
Ryilan Nightbreeze
--------------------------

If you're really interested in ranged combat first and foremost, you want to play a ranger. Assassins are great but they're primarily a melee class whose skillset is augmented by some ranged attacks; we're primarily a ranged class (later on) whose skillset is augmented by some melee attacks.

If that's the case, consider betraying. It's not that hard, just time consuming. I just did the Qeynos > FP betrayal on one of my alts, and I could have soloed almost the entire thing. As for playing with your friends - you can still play with them, you just wouldn't live with them. In the long run, your home city doesn't make a huge difference and you won't be isolated from them if you do decide to go that route. Good luck.

If you like to be at range hard hits and doing a small amount of melee damage then make a ranger.

If you like to be upclose real hard hits and doing a small amount of ranged damage then make a assassin.

If you want to make one of those and your friends not in same hometome as you then move to Maj dul.

Thats it I guess.
