Had a strange one this am - tw@ting some grey mobs in TS to clear my quest log when I spotted a named lion. Never seen him before, thought I'd give him a slap. lvl 26^^^ if memory servers, and I'm nealry lvl 36, so I just sort of plowed in. Hidden Shot and my new Master II Wounding Arrow take a nice chunk of his health off and I start wailing away with melee attacks. His health is going down gradually, mine is flying down. When I got to about 10% health remaining - carrying a DoT wound for my troubles - I pegged it. Now, I know I didn't exactly take the fight seriously, but surely I should have found that much easier? I ended up doing my first serious kite to kill him once I'd recovered. Is it a fact that we have to kite once we get to a certain level, in the same way Conjurors have to use their pets and wizzys have to root? If so, rather than being overpowered w are at a serious disadvatage in any zone with too much agro to move around.

Which stance were you in? The defence/parry minus on our offensive stance can be quite dramatic (roughly half the avoidnce compared to defensive stance)...as you change from ranged to close combat you might want to try switching, true were not tanks but it does (at least to me) make a large difference to ourt survivability in melee.

Think I still had Blade Flurry on from killing the greys, but even so he really did trash me. Head to toe in Pristine - imbued where poss - legendary armor, so I know that isn't the problem. Did he maybe just get a few lucky hits in?

Our offensive stance significantly degrades tank peformance for us. However, I have noticed that until high 30s/low 40s its difficult to kill ^^^ heroics even if they are gray, unless they are VERY gray.

I don't like to talk about it, but yeah... I've had my as s handed to be by some pretty low level/ grey ^^ and ^^^. I don't even try anymore.

it's been a time since having been that level. but what i noticed: if i have trouble because of health dropping too fast, in the second try i use defensive stance and normally do better.

when you hit 35, you might want to get 'honed reflexes' CA. it's a haste buff. it can only be bought from a BLC faction npc or crafted by a player. so when you go mellee on tough mobs, turn on defensive stance and cast honed reflexes; you can up the dps and still have the much better defense of the stance.

--------------------------
Ryilan Nightbreeze
--------------------------

Well, here is how it is for me being a higher lvl ranger. I cant take a hit at all, lol at lvl 60 a lvl 48 mob can still beat me up. This being true, I am well geared and still getting hit. I can kill 64/// kiting because basically if the mob cant hit me it doesnt matter how long it take I can kill it. Kiting has its disadvantage that if you dont have the room its almost impossible. So we come to my regular soloing. I normally solo for loot on 54-56 named /// mobs. How i do it at the high lvls is all about poison. I use a high initial damage poison low dot and a stun and sometimes a peirce debuff if hes hard. I set a trap as a buffer incase im really unlucky and my stun poisons decides not to proc. Then I open with my tiple arrow because it almost garentees a proc of my stun. I then proceed to chain everything i have at the mob precise shot(double) my debilitating arrow, my slow shot, confusing shot, amazing shot, storm. Then when im out of CAs i cut auto range and cancel poison dot off mob. He run to trap and hes rooted until my spells refresh. If trap breaks or mob is a caster once i run out of CAs i switch to stream of arrows. So basically to solo we need to bank on the stun poison. Then damage poison obviously to take him down faster. Also remember to use your range buff and your dps buff. Miller 60 Ranger Toxx Dominion

We are definately not Underpowered. No comment on the over powered thing though. Like miller said, Stun poisons FTW. AT lvl 55 when you get stream of arrows you will be able to kill ^^^ mobs 4 lvls higher than you as long as your using stuns and you dont have to worry about dieing. Just get to 55 and all your worries will be over :o)

Leoric
Level 60 ranger

IIRC Changes were made such that named grey con mobs would not be trivial within a certain level range. As such, any grey con mob within say 10 or 15 levels might end up much trickier to kill than you expect - especially if you don't do your normal fight prep beforehand

Mirdo.

BLC = Bloodline Chronicles (adventure pack). if you have done some missions for the guys in camp near BLC zone, you can buy the app2 version of the spell off of merchant there.

but i recommend you get a high enough jeweller to make it for you. either app4 or ad3. that's what i did. i think the books for the BLC recipes can be bought from the NPCs in the general tradeskill instances (the first you have access to).

that, the spell 'trick of the hunter' and the 51+ spells have to be bought (i think).
trick of the hunter' can't be crafted and can only be bought from splitpaw merchant, after you gained trust of the gnolls.
the 50+ you get from maj'dul courts, crafted or dropped (and through broker, of course).
there are 3 ancient spells, at 52, 55 and 58. you can only get them crafted or as drops (+broker).

you may want to check the spell lists here.

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/classes/index.vm

look at scout and predator list as well, because spells that are not ranger only are listed there (like evasion and stalk line, trick of the hunter, or reflexes).

edit: forgot to mention our fun spells. you get them at one of the trainers in Eldar Grove. they are:

Phyn's Hunting Hawk (lvl20)
Jeth's Cuddly Companion (bear, lvl40)
Rhyn's Feline Hunter (tiger, lvl50)

they are pets which can't be used to attack a mob. they react sometimes, if in mood :smileyvery-happy: . and it seems they can be used as agro-bait: you can park the pet somewhere, and if you get agro from a mob you can use the evade-line skill (without attacking) and the mob will run off to the pet. free to shoot in the back or run off. :smileyvery-happy:

--------------------------
Ryilan Nightbreeze
--------------------------

Message Edited by jarlaxle888 on 12-06-2005 09:52 AM
