View Full Version : What alts do you have, and do you play them?

Zho's comment in another thread got me thinking about mains vs alts. I'm spending a lot of time on my alts lately, for a variety of reasons, and I'm starting to miss the feel of the wind ruffling my fur, the sun on my face, the twang of my bowstring. Last night I intended to go stretch my kerran legs but I ended up getting so frustrated with the incessant tells and general demands for attention that I just logged off. Didn't even make it out of Qeynos Harbor before I'd had enough and ended up logging an alt who isn't that well-known.

So I play an inquisitor, guardian, illusionist, and bruiser in addition to my ranger. I've tried a bard but the role was too similar to what I'm already used to after 55 levels of ranger, so I scrapped him. So far I'm really enjoying the roles that the illusionist and the tanks play. I'm never going to be gung-ho over the healer role, but I really enjoy my dark elf inquis. The chanter is SO cool... she's still pretty young, but that role is SO different from any other class I've played and I really like it. Maybe it's my ranger training, but I seem to gravitate toward some of the more difficult, high-maintenance classes.

What about you guys?

I have a brawler about to hit bruiser, my first and only alt. I started him when i hit 58 with my ranger, because I have pretty much told myself im just going to do instances and what not till I hit 60, and not worry about the grind to much. During the less full hours in my guild, i get on him, hes a little rat, about to hit 20, and his name is Wiseone Splinter.

I've been playing my SK alot recently. Even hit 0% vitality over the weekend. :smileywink: I have to say... not having to sneak around back of the mob, just running right up and swinging away feels great. I think part of it is that ranger requires that first alpha strike to solo effectively. If you're running around harvesting and get agro, it's really annoying. On my SK, I just turn to the mob and teach it a lesson about going toe to toe, or if I'm really annoyed give it the old death touch. :smileyvery-happy: I'm finding it a refreshing change, but I'm sure I'll get back to my main at some point.

my first char was my pally so technically my ranger is the alt :smileysurprised: but due to rolling him on a US server play time was getting annoying so I rolled my ranger on the UK server and played him every day until character moves came along and moved my beloved pally to the same server. I love to play tank, keeping an eye out for my group and going toe to toe with a nasty mob, and im from the old school of a tank is there to be hit and hold the aggro, not dish out the DPS...so my pally is still at 50 due to loving the DPS im dishing out with my mad little halfling ranger. I play the pally for the trade skill when im not raiding and will probably level him up at some point but at the moment i dont want to go through the grind again

I only have one alt. An unguilded Troll SK. I haven't played him much since the tank DPS nerf back in August. I know, tanks are not DPS classes, but what can I say. I've been a ranger for a long time and I likes my DPS :smileytongue:

My sig lists my main account, but I recently started a second that has a 25 bruiser and a bunch of level 10s that will be a berserker, coercer, inquisitor, brigand and dirge.

Ah Kaeros no other kitty alts? for shame hehe. I have a lvl 30 Kerran Fury alt and a lvl 7 soon to be some kind of fighter Kerran alt hehe. I chose all kerra though just because I couldn't come to terms with the other race class combo's I have in mind. Oh and us Kats are badass man hehe. I really like the Kerra race and haven't felt a large desire to play as anything else to be honest. Hell I've even got an expansive story line ploted out for my characters about how they all have the same father with role-playing (that thing you did when you played D&D ) tie-ins about their tribe and backgrounds. I think I might give it up though and remake my fighter type prolly into not a fighter at all and into some kind of elf race. I need to play my Fury more too.

I have a 30 Mystic and a 18 warrior (not sure zerker or guard yet).

I started the Mystic one day when I was looking for group and frustrated about not getting one. Everyone wanted healers. So I said "Fine! I'll just make a healer!!" and Lyssia was born. I find that being a healer is my second favorite class choice. I really really like it, and I'm actually pretty good at it..hehe. Now that Liviya is 60, I'll be working on her more.

My warrior was me just killing time one day. I had never done a betrayal quest before, and decided to try it out. So I took Layce, my little bitty wood elf to the big bad city of Freeport where she is constantly ridiculed about hugging trees. Its a blast.

I am forever confused as to who is my alt and who is my main :smileysad: I think I have to come to terms with the fact that I have 2 mains. Unfortunately, I don't know if this can last, because I imagine levelling both to 60 may be a bit too much of a grind.

Both my Paladin and my Ranger are level 31s. They are clones of each other, really - clean cut, hulking, blond Barbarians. The Ranger is an Armorer and the Pally is the Weaponsmiit; I had the dream of levelling them simulataneously with the ability to outfit each other with crafted gear.

Right now I am really having more fun with the Ranger, though that was not the case just last week, so who can say what the future might hold? :smileyvery-happy: In addition, I love soloing with my Paladin, but I am not big on how Palys need to play in a group (offtanking, group healing, mting, etc.). I just like to dish out punishment like I do with my Ranger. In that respect, I probably would have been better off rolling a SK before a Paladin.

As for my other alts:

1)Another Barbarian clone level 15(future)SK in Freeport . I wanted to try the class out, but since the early levels are exactly the same as my Paladin's, I needed to take a break from him for a while. I'll return to him someday.

2)A freshly-made level 10 Rogue (future Swashy) Human. I like the SOGA human models, so I needed to create this guy. The playstyle is very similar to my Ranger, of course, so again, I won't be playing this toon too much anytime soon. Really, when you've played a Ranger, any other scout class just leaves you wanting.

3)A Dark Elf Rogue (level 10). For the future date when I actually want to run the betrayal quest.

4)A level 11 (barbarian clone/ except for the hair color) - Warrior.

5)A level 10 human sorcerer.

Frankly, I don't care much for the Mage or Priest classes. My playstyle will always be Scout/Fighter slash/bash/shoot. Even more directly, any alt I make as a Scout/Fighter just doesn't measure up to my two mains, so while I can't seem to decide on just one main, I don't believe I will have too much of a problem getting sidetracked with the other alts.

Message Edited by Valandur1975 on 11-30-2005 07:38 AM

48 Half Elf Ranger, 23 Wood Elf Mystic (arent healers...not supposed to die...yeah, big suprise there lol), 20 High Elf Illusionist (should have gone coercer Charm freaking ROCKS...til it breaks lol), 19 Kerran Brawler (to monk....Shout, then Taunt, then 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, rinse repeat lol). I also just started a Wood Elf mage...going to betray to be a Necro probably cause I think thats kind of humorous...a wood elf necro.

I think Im an altoholic lol, its rewarding to lvl, cant bring myself to do quests on my alts though, Ive done them all so lvling is a pure grind.

I have a 20th Level Froglok Assassin and a 6th level Mage (that I quit playing because they moved the server to an English Speaking European Server). I don't play my Assassin often enough. The first 20 levels were identical to my Ranger because of the same subclass, so I haven't really experienced much life as an Assassin yet. Betrayal was kinda fun, but all that hopping around just makes my legs tired. :smileyvery-happy:

What a fun topic!! I love alts because I get experience what the game is like from other points of view...as this is the only game I have ever played, of this type. Also, having alts gives me a chance to group with lower level members of my guild. My guild (and Alliance) also has 'Alt nights' where we all pull out the alts. Now THAT is fun. What's funny is it takes me about 10 minutes to adjust my thinking ... so imagine the tank trying to run behind the mob. LOL

My Halfelf Ranger is my main, Ciarra just dinged 56 last night! woot woot! I have the most fun with her, I love the play style.

Elyana: halfling Zerker, lvl 30. Nothing like a little Cabbage Patch kid with blonde pigtails in platemail armor!!! hehehe

Whysper Warsongs: woodelf Dirge lvl 23 that duos with my bf's halfling Trouby. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that we have so much fun with the little bardies considering that we both love our scouts so much. The buffs are fun and the bards work GREAT duo'ed...hopefully that won't change as we develop them more into there seperate classes.

Melaine: 21 high elf Conjuror. She's mostly a crafty alt, 29 Tailor.

Harine: lvl 10 Brawler, would be lovely Barbarian Bruiser.

I've rolled 3 different healers. There is a lvl 6 priest on my roster..lol..she just hasn't been deleted yet. I get bored playing a priest. They never last through lvl 15 before they get shelfed and eventually deleted. :smileytongue:

Message Edited by brandi7920 on 11-30-2005 11:11 AM

I only have one alt of note and thats a 45 Wizzy / 40 Alchemist. I enjoy the DPS role and love seeing the big numbers go up over mobs heads and wizzys do that so well. I tend to play her When my main (Alaulai 60 Ranger) can twink her a bit. Its nice being well geared on my second time thru this game. Being an alchemist is a very nice professin too. My Ranger carries some rare stuns, may they not be named.... and My wizzy has int buff, heal over time and mana over time potions to boost her. at lvl 45 self buffed I have 310 int or so and when I go boom its loud and big Love the root/explode you to hell technique

I have a 34 templar...Phaedre, and a 26 guardian...Sidonie. Neither has been played since long before the combat update. These two classes (tank/healer) were the two that I felt were most effected by my playstyle as a ranger, so when I decided to create alts, that's what I went with. Both are fun, but the templar is probably my favorite of the two.

I run around as Saihung Tailchaser about 99% of the time...I have rolled many alts (unfortunately I have abandoned some on the isle of refuge :smileysurprised: I hope they are managing alright with all of those goblins) but the only alt to stick around even remotely is my 22 Templar named Roboto.

I loved playing a Templar before the fabled Combat Changes...hehe...**shhh...noone has heard me complain much about that combat change...hehe***. Since the changes, I have just had a hard time 1) Adjusting my play and strategies to the new Roboto and 2) I am just that much more involved with Saihung.

So if you are running around Faydark and you see a High Elf Templar named Roboto, consider yourself lucky...he is harder to spot than bigfoot

Saihung Tailchaser

Yes, the bruiser is a kerra, a badass kerra - all black, bright green eyes, wicked piercings (the rings along cheekbones and nose). Given that my younger brother is now playing and wanted to continue our tradition of having our characters be brothers too, Kaeros now has a few siblings running around. In story / RP terms, the bruiser is Kae's wayward younger brother (started in Qeynos, couldn't stomach the tranquil self-defense teachings of the dojo, betrayed to FP and became a fearsome streetfighter) and my brother's character is the youngest of the three, a gallant, gregarious kitty who just earned the title of swashbuckler. Well, made a zerker when i was closing in to lvl 50 (before the expansion was out) He is dwarf and lvl 48 now... been playing it sometimes, not lately very much thou... I also have a lvl 21 templar (high elf) and a lvl 23 (soon 24) ranger (GASP!) dwarf... [which i just made to better see how the changes on the CU affected the lower lvl ppl etc...] I play with the little ranger now and then for fun Also started a bruiser wannabe, but he's on the Island i think... so havent played that one, yet. ++Xan

I occasionaly play my level 27 Fury. He is pretty tough and can hold his own. I am impressed with this class and solo's well. His name? Welhard! Since his creation he has died a total of 3 times - and one of those was because he ran off a cliff! lol.

Also got a 21 Dirge, Strummer. Not bad soloing but can't fight against group mobs, but this is a group class I guess.

Got a 16 conjuror, having a pet class makes a change.

And I have a 20 Illustionist. Again, different play style and a group class more than soloing but can be done - especially now he can summon a pet (image of one self, can't think of the tech name now )

I like playing alts because of the change of play they bring and also to understand other classes rolls better. I've played loads of alts of the year and the ones listed are what I have atm.

As with someone else here my main was originally my shadowknight - took a break for 6 weeks and came back to find my guild had disappeared without a trace. As I had a friend on Splitpaw I started a wood elf ranger there and hooked up with him. Found out since that I weirdly loved trade skilling and being able to keep my guild from having to use outside crafters so my ranger is a 60th jeweller but I also rotate leveling alts and have a 50th weaponsmith, 50th carpenter, 47th alchemist and 31st sage. Sadly my ranger is very very slowly levelling due to the tradeskilling and only hit 37th level in the last few days. I transferred my SK over almost specifically to gather harvesting materials but since DoF and the revamp I've found I really enjoy playing them again as a counter to my DPS machine. Time is about 50/50 atm.

Due to the price differential I've been collecting lvl 29-54 Warlock and Bruiser masters and when my alchemist and sage hit 60th I'll start levelling their adventurer levels. Will be quite a relief space wise as those 2 take up almost 2 x 24 slot boxes alone and thats before I count my sk masters I can't use yet or assassin/necromancer ones.

Sadly I have been able to afford very few ranger masters - but then there are a LOT of lvl 55-60 rangers on this server!

Well, I don't tradeskill so all my online time is available to play my alts.

Since Mirdo hit 60, I've spent a lot of time on my Bruiser - she's lvl 40 now.

I also have:

51 Illusionist - played from 46 to 50 when DoF launched because they fixed her - barely touched since they whacked her back to last year with the nerfbat.

44 Warlock - I was loving this guy then SoE decided the 'new vision' for Warlcoks was AoE damage. It's not my vision so he's not played much either.

16 Cleric/priest thingy - not played since January after realising healing is not for me.

Mirdo.
