I play a ranger. (I suppose that's obvious or else why would I be here) and I'm wondering what as rangers do you guys expect from other classes? I haven't played other classes much so I don't really know what is fair to expect of them. I tend to get really annoyed when something happens such as a tank pulling a mob while I'm sneaking in front of him obviously expecting the mob to be within me and him and then him turning and not only making it so I have to move late but also pulling the mob into like a tree or something so it's extremely hard for me to do certain abilities. Or if they switch targets or end up not targetting a mob directly. Are these suitable expectations? Or should I not expect so much out of them? What do you expect of tanks and other classes? Thanks for your insights. <div></div>

I expect tanks to try to maintain agro and position the mob where I can hit it with some sort of consistency. I expect healers to try and keep us all alive. I expect DPS to control their agro levels and to move to the tank if they get agro. <div></div>

<DIV>It's reasonable to expect the tank to turn the mob so it's back is towards the main group. That said, a lot of tanks get out of the habit if they don't group with scout classes much.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I usually find a polite request via a tell solves the problem - saying it in group chat can look like an open criticism if not carefully worded. The higher level tanks I've grouped with usually throw in an apology for forgetting - maybe they group more with casters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Mirdo.</DIV>

I agree with the above.Tanks hold agro, keep the mobs facing one direction. In my experience, a good tank will back twards me some (into a save area) while using his opening taunts, then move away a few steps, that's when they stop moving unless we do get a wandering add.Also..I have an assist macro, ("/assist TANKNAME") I hate hitting that four times before I get something targeted, a good tanks moves to a new target quickly once we've killed the first one.I don't really like to see a healer nuke if we have more then one DPS in the group. (That's not to say that some times it isn't ok, but in general.)

<P>It really depends on your level. If you're 25, the expecations are necessarily lower than if you're 55. At the end-game tier, I have pretty high expectations of my MT and the rest of the group, as I assume they've been playing their characters for several months and have learned the finer points of their game. </P> <P><STRONG>Tanks:</STRONG> Generally I don't necessarily *expect* the tank to turn the mobs, but I'll suggest it if we're in close quarters. I do expect consistency - either turn them or don't, but pick one and stick with it. They may not be used to turning the mobs or just don't group with scouts often and aren't aware of the positional requirements we deal with. That's fine (I don't know their classes' ins and outs either) but I don't want to spend too much time chasing them around in circles on pulls. I expect them to establish a method when pulling (do we charge in together or establish a pulling spot where the group waits, etc) and inform the group of any changes to that method. That's what I try to do when I'm playing a tank, at least. </P> <P><STRONG>Healers: </STRONG>Keep the MT up and healthy first and foremost (they know this), keep their power managed pretty well, don't overnuke or spend time and mana on too many damage spells if the fight is a close one - let ME worry about the damage, cuz I CAN'T heal. When I'm playing a healer and we're pulling rapidly, I try to make sure I have more power than everyone in the group by casting conservatively so I don't slow us down. But in some fights, a healer needs to cast debuffs and other utility spells to manage the damage output of the mob. I expect them to know when that's appropriate and when it's not. </P> <P><STRONG>Mages: </STRONG>Varies wildly depending on the subtype but it's all pretty basic. Generally mages don't need to alter their game that much to accomodate our class, like tanks do. I expect chanters to make with the crowd control and mana regen, of course. They have many other very cool abilities that can be helpful, and I expect them to use those as appropriate. I expect summoners to use the appropriate pet (I hate seeing our MT compete with a pet for aggro control) and I expect them to keep it unobtrusive. (I have a pet peeve here, too many summoners seem to think their one Adept III pet is the answer to all the group's problems.) I expect sorcerors to keep their aggro under control, deal good damage, and not be threatened if I happen to outdamage them. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </P> <P><STRONG>Scouts: </STRONG>I expect a little coordination b/w me and other scouts. I want to know what poisons they're using (if a pred or rogue) and whether they can off-tank if needed. Otherwise, I just expect some company behind the mobs, basically. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>It's all pretty basic, but IMO communication is the key here, especially at earlier levels when players are not as familiar with the abilities and potential of other classes. If you have suggestions or questions, direct them to the appropriate player in tells (not group chat, public reprimands aren't cool), be polite, and recognize that something that could seem bizarre or pointless to you may have a use that you're not aware of. </P> <P>And yes, I occasionally practice what I preach. Just not that often. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<P>I only expect one thing from group and classess.</P> <P> </P> <P>That is lets work this together and beat the mob instead of eachother in a big flamewar and die cuz of lack of respect<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Well that was several things but god d'mn it was one long sentence atleast;P</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>First off, I will say the first person I expect something from is myself.  The knowledge of how you play with different characthers, most especially tanks.  Know that if your with a pally and amends is on you can almost always go all out, but as soon as it changes you may want to wait some before using something like storm of arrows.  Know that you always let your tank know that your going to use stream of arrows. (plus 20% hate gain)  Know also that if you are in a PUG, to not expect anything haha.  We are a damage class, so our main concern is to do as much damage without taking aggro, and knowing your tank, and his capabilites help alot with that.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When in a guild group I do expect several things-</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-Tanks to turn mobs whenever possible.</DIV> <DIV>-Tanks to change targets if assisting off of them as soon as possible after the first one dies.</DIV> <DIV>-Healers to know how the heals they are using work together.  (Mystic wards and bebuffs while Templar uses reactives for example)</DIV> <DIV>-Wizards to pull aggro and die in the attempt to prove they are that much better damage then rangers.</DIV> <DIV>-Crowd control be ready to mez adds or do whatever they do.</DIV> <DIV>-Group to be in as much communication as possible. (my guild uses teamspeak for this)</DIV> <DIV>-Damage to kill as quickly as possible without taking aggro (besides the above stated wizard case)</DIV> <DIV>-Damage to stay on targeted mobs, so stay on whoever we are supposed to assist off of.</DIV> <DIV>-To have a fricken hell of a time with as much jokes as possible in a stress free enviorment.</DIV> <DIV>-And I expect to have people who can keep up with my sense of humor. (last two a personal thing of course)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When in a PUG</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- If tank doesnt turn mobs, ask him nicely, and just remind him of the increase of damage when we can get behind mobs.</DIV> <DIV>- If that does not work, the group sucks. or people are to stressed, you can expect me to claim "guild needs" that i need to rescue.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am here to have fun, and kill stuff.  If I am not doing any of those two things, I will find something better to do.  That is just me though.</DIV>

<DIV>I really have very few expectations.  I've been playing MMORPG's since the Kunark release and I know that many high level characters just merely grinded their way up to the top without working on any technique, and sometimes it really shows.  On the flip side, there are many lower level characters that are so [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] when it comes to technique you'd swear they were potty trained at gunpoint.  So, I just have fun playing and enjoy the time I spend with others when grouping.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now raiding is a totally different story.  I expect everyone on the raid to know the strat, be positioned correctly, do their job, and shut up.  I realize that raiding in EQ2 is no where near as difficult as the EQ elementals, but still, when it comes to raids, I'm old school.</DIV>

I like the tank to keep the mob turned so I can use my melee skills in tight quarters, but I make sure to go over that with them beforehand. I never assume someone knows what I need, a habit I got into after playing an enchanter for 5 years in EQ1 <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Healers I just expect to keep the tank alive and toss me a heal if needed. Or in the case of my bf and I when we duo, I expect his mystic to keep the wards up and heal my paper tank butt when I need it. <div></div>

The whole "tank may not play with other scout classes and so may not turn mobs " is odd. I expect them all to do that regardless. The only exception, is if they never group with melee classes. Because mobs parry/riposte deflect et cetera from the front. The only ones who have some back avoidance skill are the monk types. So even if other melee classes don't have positional attacks, they should still be fighting from behind/side.That said, it does not always happen, and honestly, I don't care too much if, as Jay42 said, they are consistent. If they never turn them, then I will be prepared on each pull to shft my location and take note of pathers/spawns to try not to aggro. The only thing that really bothers me is, as Coltlane said, when tanks do not acquire targets fast enough. I also hate hitting assist multiple times while mobs are aggro. Personally, I like it when the MT chooses a new target at ~20% (same for secondary pullers to pull new targets) or less of his old targets health. Granted, that only really works with ^^ or ^^^ mobs, as normal mobs just die far too fast.I suppose it would be nice if I still did not meet people who seem to think rangers are not dps too O_o but whatever, I don't mind that much either.Merkades.Edited to add a "c" to acquire.<p>Message Edited by Merkades on <span class=date_text>11-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:17 PM</span>

I've had some tanks in dungeons who don't keep the mob away from the wall. Gets kind of annoying but usually just a polite word will fix things. <div></div>

After reading the forums today, I guess I do have some expectations.  I expect wizards suffering from {a type of envy that would get haxx0red} <STRONG>not</STRONG> to troll our boards and complain about the size of their own equipment.
