View Full Version : Advice for a 31 Ranger - need new duals

Hi guys, Went on a level 39 quest with some decent chaps in Zek last night. I say decent because I was doing aproximately zero damage to most of the mobs we faced. The quest reward was a heller nice legendary bow - so I can now do damage to these higher mobs....with my bow. My duals are still a little crudy. Are there any similar quest (don't know name, got it from Shadow on Zek docs) for some nice duals? <div></div>

<DIV>Have ya done the PGT HQ yet ? You can start there, to get a very nice slasher that you will still be using past 50 (I still use it at level 52 for ranged combat for its procs, when in melee I swap it for a crafted legendary).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I've heard of the PGT - where does the quest start please? <div></div>

I've found that fighting mobs 5+ levels higher than me is pretty pointless. I miss them 90% of the time, didn't seem to matter what weapon I was using.

<P>If you think the PGT HQ was hard, then you in for a nice treat ahead with some of the quests you will be able to get :smileyhappy:</P> <P>Probably the best idea is to support your local weaponsmith and purchase some weapons off him/her. Start with "normal" and then move onto legendary ones.</P> <P> </P>

<P>I think the Little Tarby Lost is more annoying then hard. The Hungry Wolves are easy...It's just that it's definatelly not a solo quest. You will need friends with you. </P> <P>6 Level 28 Hungry Wolves</P> <P>6 Level 29 Hungry Wolves</P> <P>3 Level 30 hungry Wolves and 1 Dire Wolf</P> <P>If I remember correctly. It's not that it CAN'T be done...Just more likely that they will eat Tarby before you kill them all.</P>

Or at least a healer. You'll want to get aggro away from Tarby ASAP. Throw up your defensive stance and have the healer keep healing away. Also you may want to look at using better/more DD poisons. You can stack three poisons now, but they all have to be different types ( Damage, debuff, and other type.) There are other threads that talk about the poisons stacking.</P> <P>As for getting the PGT, it is well worth getting it! I'm on the verge of 45 now and I still use my PGT. It took a while to get it, but it's got a great proc and it procs all the time. You'll need to get Cove of Decay access or have someone with access get you in for the final battle, but it's well worth the reward.</P>
<P>Hehe, yeah, the PGT is <STRONG>not </STRONG>optional gear - you want that baby as soon as possible, trust me. You mentioned at least one imbued DW weapon - what is it that you're using currently?</P> <P>PGT will take some time but it's essential. If you're still looking to upgrade your weapons in the meantime, I remember that some good dropped feysteel weapons were selling on the market for cheap back when I was in my early 30s. Otherwise, harvest for your own feysteel and have something crafted if you haven't already. If you go that route, just make sure you get a piercer, as PGT is slashing and you'll likely use that into your early 40s.</P>

The PGT doesnt come quickly... First step is an agonizing mining expedition, digging in wind swept stones for peices of granite. Took me about 4 hours of continuous mining. Also, you'll need you tradskilling level up to at least 9; for you have to combine granite with other peices to make an interim tomahawk. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ogames spoiler:</DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/quests/AnAxefromThePast.php" target=_blank>http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/quests/AnAxefromThePast.php</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Providing your playing at an hour where there are very little people on, it actually is possible to solo "Little Tarby Lost" - just get some high level food and drinks to speed up regeneration and beat the despawn time. Just talk to Tarby, aggro the wolves, then yell and run away, and the wolves will go right back to Tarby, circle him, and just sit there idly. Unload all your spike DPS abilities on one of the wolves, yell, and run away again until the third wave, where you just have to kill Dire wolf - then just pick up Tarby and run away. I reckon its not the way its supposed to be done, but i didn't have any guild backing to help. That, and if the wolves despawn, the quest gets bugged and Tarby has to die in order for it to work again.</P> <P>The harvesting is probably the most irritating part - Not only do people tend to snipe windswept stones, but they are also rare. This means that it'll probably take long periods of time inbetween to find clusters of the stones, and theres only about a fifty percent chance that you'll actually even get one granite from exhausting a node. The sparkling flower and ash stave needed for making the tomahawk can be either an easy step, or hard - on Mistmoore, they seem to go for about 11g combined, but thats using the blackmarket.</P> <P>Even the Skindancer gnoll step can be soloed. If the named isn't up in the middle of the shrine, then a group of 5 mobs will spawn there instead, that shouldn't have any arrows. Between their respawn time if possible, you can also kill the groups of two ^^ level 25 roamers, which have a faster respawn. Probably considerably slower than getting a group, but if your determined to get the PGT, well.</P> <P>As for Octagorgon, the hardest part is probably getting access into Cove of Decay in the first place. The access quest does require a group to do, and honestly, you probably won't find a pickup group thats doing the access quest for Cove of Decay. The funny part i find here is that all the raid zones for quick loot, that have epicx4 mobs in them are all auto-access, but the lower level versions require access quest that involve killing grouped ^^s or ^^^s?</P> <P>The main perk with the PGT tends to be how the speed vs. proc rate formula works. Providing you are using a longbow (7.0) speed, it should trigger off the PGT proc quite frequently, and the proc is the main power-point for the weapon to begin with.</P>

Got lucky with a low-ish level fury looking for xp Sunday so I just ran around outside Varsoon, drew as much agro as I could and shredded them while the healer worked like a little trooper keeping me in one piece. Then did ooc for anyone who could help with skindancers and found another fury doing same HQ so we got them in about 10 mins......then came getting access to Cove...about 3 hours later after doing whole prison break etc. Bug stood proud with a brand new PGT <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Also looted a rare pelt which I'm now wearing. Also, while hitting all the nodes to get the right ones to appear for the granite I got a piece of Steel (rare). Found a weapon smith on LFW who said if I gave him the steel and 30g he's make me an imbued Feysteel. Long story short, my slightly good Ranger of Friday night is now a fully legendary, crazy imbued proccing shredding machine. The PGT procs so much it's actually getting annoying! Oh, and doing the HQ twice in one weekend dinged my guild to 15 <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></span><div></div>

My guess would be that for whatever reason, photobucket is resizing the image for you. I don't personally use photobucket, so, I'm not sure if it does it on it's own, or if it is a option type thing. Check the settings when uploading the image and see if there is a resize option. <span>:smileywink:</span><div></div>

May even have been a HQ, took a full group all night to do. I was by far the lowest in the group, they just let me tag along basically (think I was 30 at the time) and I did about zero damage to most the mobs we had to fight, so you'll need some help. Sorry, Sural's right - you just have to have completed the HQ for Shady to offer to sell you the reward for it. But given that HQ rewards are Lore / No-Trade, he will not sell you a duplicate of an item you already have.
