You want at least one imbued cobalt. You don't "lose" stats, you just get them spread across three attributes (Str, Agi, Sta) instead of just Str and Agi. There's been some indication that the Devs may fix it so stats don't change on imbuing, but for now it's not really that bad. The way I look at it, you get stat boosts from nearly every item on your person, but you only have two (at most) melee weapons, so the Gleaming Strike proc outweighs a few points in Agi and Str.

I actually have 5 cobalt weapons...forged stiletto, forged leaqfblade, forged spatha, imbued crescent axe, and imbued sabre (yes I was fortunate with harvests before they scaled back the frequency with which cobalts are found). This gives me any combination of dual-wield I may desire. However, most of the time I find myself with 2 non-imbued weapons equipped. I'm not really sure why, but I prefer the stats over the proc. Probably because the additional stats enhance all of my attacks, whereas the procs only effect the weapon from which they proc. It's personal preference, however. I would be more concerned about making sure you have a weapon of both types (piercing & slashing) than whether to imbue or not.

Message Edited by Zholain on 11-16-2005 01:24 PM

Just out of curiousity - have you found that the extra 5-10 points of STR or AGI from the forged weapons impacts your DPS significantly? I only ever used imbued (though I found a cobalt last night and I'm torn b/w more armor or a forged weapon) so I just don't know.

I tend to favor procs over stats, but that may just be because procs are noticeable damage, a hard number that I can easily point to and go wow, more damage. Having my AGI or STR go up by 5-10 points is harder to observe. I agree that it does help all your attacks, but I guess I've been assuming that the proc damage outweighs the small increase in stats.

The stat changes are miniscule compared to most buffs you will receive in groups. I have no problem reaching the strength cap with my imbued weapons in, so I'll take a good proc over some measly strength or agi any day. The stamina is also nice for soloing. The only valid suggestion I've heard to really improve your weapons is to have one made with a 3rd level imbue so the palely gleaming strike stacks with the gleaming strike on the other weapon, but since I received my Prismatic I no longer feel it necessary to drop a cobalt on that. Right now I generally wield the prismatic with an imbued stilleto, and if the mob is pierce immune, I'll switch out the stilleto for an imbued hand axe. I see no point in taking the prismatic out of my hand though, because its proc works off my bow and it has power regen, which both apply whether the weapon can hit the mob or not.

ok ive decided im gunna get it imbued.....but, is there any real difference between which weapon? i only started getting player crafted things at lvl 40 so when i got my first weapon i chose on just the looks (ebon spatha) i kinda fond of the flamberge look as the prismatic is the same shape so they wud match when i get em

so is what i pick just personal preferance or is there a real dfference?

peace:smileytongue:

The biggest difference is slash and pierce. You generally want to keep one of each to keep your skills maxed, and optimally you want to carry 2 of each so you can hit pierce or slash immune mobs with both your weapons. Beyond that, it's purely personal preference. Choose whatever you want to look at for a long time.

I think you get a bit more out of higher delay weapons when you're using your CA's. If you're using CA's, you're not using auto-attack. Don't know that delay makes a significant difference in our overall dps potential though.

If i'm ever lucky enough to have more cobalt than I know what to do with, i'll try some different weapon combo's and actually crunch numbers to determine if there are statistically significant differences between them in terms of DPS.

Guess I'm the oddball ranger. I have no colbalt weapons and have no desire to get any. Incase people missed it all the T5 fable weapons work on T6 mobs now including named and epic's. T5 fable and prismatic's are far superior then any colbalt weapon in my opinion. Colbalt's my have a higher damage rating but how often do you actually use auto melee attack. Plus fable's will proc off bow shot while imbued items don't. That alone makes T5 fable greatly superior to imbued colbalt. I love the fact that I've been able to retire my Ironwood bow and use my Valian 100% of the time.

I sold my T5 fabled to the vendor cuz it didn't have a proc. If it had a 12% proc I might have kept it Darathar dropped a valian the other day and I tried for it but missed

hehe guess I should have stated I was talking about the T5's with proc's. Ya the T5 without proc's are pretty worthless. Ranger's are all about proc's these days

Not all of us have been fortunate enough to get fabled weapons from t5. Those of us who haven't must be content with our t6 player-crafted weaponry. And even though our guild should have another group complete Deception this weekend, or very shortly thereafter, as of yet some of us may not have prismatics. And very rarely am I fortunate enough to be in a group where my str is at cap. It depends on what particular raid we are on and how the guild leaders have organized the groups. Therefore, I will take as much self-based strength as possible. That 12 extra strength does in fact have an impact on CA's, and I'll take whatever I can get to increase the damage on those. In melee auto-attack, imbued is definitely better. But for overall increase in DPS, non-imbued...at least in my situation..is more effective. This is absolutely just my opinion, however. In truth, they are probably about equal. Just different paths to achieve the same result.

I was lucky enough to get the discovery on Vacra Av Svim. There's a pic of it posted here http://s93549939.onlinehome.us/ amongst some of our recent fabled lootages. It has a nice poison dot proc so I keep it equipped now instead of wielding dual cobalts.

I really really really want to get my hands on one of those uber T6 dual wield daggers. There a few people who have them on our server and they are sweeeeeeet.
