View Full Version : Rangers get pets?

Did I see that Rangers can get a 'fun' pet hawk at around level 20, or was that a dream?

Yeah, we can. It'll cost you about 15s at the trainer in Eldar Grove. You'll get a bear at 40 and a tiger at 50, too. They're fluff, they don't do anything (though some folks have discovered creative uses as decoys), but they can add a bit of flavor.

Well, though some heller hard grind at crafting I should be able to buy my first non-Paladin horse in the next few days (although I may let my slow-[Removed for Content] mage have it) so a birdy would round off the menagerie nicely. Don't supose you have the new of the trainer/spell to hand?

The trainers are located in Eldar Grove where the stream cuts through that broken wall. The name of the spell is Rhyn's (?) Hunting Hawk, IIRC.

I think that's right... it's Hunting Hawk, Cudley Companion and I forget the Tiger one.

Here is the list Phyn's Hunting Hawk (20) Jeth's Cuddly Companion (40) Rhyn's Feline Hunter (50)

Apparently Phyn and Rhyn were real animal-lovers.

Right, git me a little birdy, now all I need to know is are there any black leather outfits on EQII? Then I can run around pretending to be The Crow

Actually, for that, you'd want the raven pet from the haunted house. And the etched leather armor is nice and black for you.

Etched leather eh? I'm about lvl 32 as a tailor and I haven't seen any yet, but I'll certainly keep my eyes pealed! AQ armor is a God-awful green too - can't wait to get back into some leathers (as all self respecting Rangers should do). Re: [Removed for Content] protection - never leave home without it. <edit> Just googled it - need to be level 36 for pristine etched Will need to be at least 30-32 before I can slip into it. What's the legendary armor like in your 30's? Anyone got any pics? (I have already found one rare pelt )

Message Edited by Mentla on 11-15-2005 11:55 AM

If you can't already tell I'm totally fine with useless pets.
How about this....

Instead of the "fluff" useless pets....we get the ability to call upon animals in the area to aid us in battle for a few minutes. Rangers are supposed to be masters of the forrest...so why can't we ask the animals to help us?

Leave the 3 fluff spells alone, but change them so they actually fight for us, but not able to control them. Sort of like the spells mages and other classes get, where they get a creature to join the battle for a few minutes.

well, I would love to get a wolf pet, they could be used instead of cheap shot, eheh, wolf bite, where the wolf (pet) would hold the mob :smileytongue: same spell but different look

Well, I can tell you, I group with my hawk every chance I get. Even in a dungoen, and even in group. At level 25, when something hits an AOE, the hawk WILL agro, and seems to hit for about 20 - 25 damge vs even con no arrow, every 2-3 seconds. So, it like an extra dot running. It just wont attack unless it is attacked.

I don't remember who posted this bit of useful information....but I've found it to be pretty darn effective! If you are going on a harvesting expedition or are working aquest and need to keep aggro off of you, just plant your pet at the the docks (or entrance of a zone) by clicking the 'stay' button on your little pet command box. Whenever anything aggros you, just click your evade/evade-line CA and continue about your business as the mob races away towards your pet.

Handy trick and THAT'S why I love this place! I all but smacked myself in the forehead for not thinking of this myself. LOL

I was looking through my knowledge book while camping a named this weekend and I ran across a spell that I had seen when I got it, but then couldn't find it under my Combat arts. I think I got it in Splitpaw Arena. It summons a little Zygomed Companion. He's a little mushroom guy. Still useless, but I like to see his little legs pumping when he tries to keep up with me!
