<DIV>Hello. I've recently hit Ranger and was wondering if, as a Ranger, we are still required to use piercing weapons to perform combat arts, or is it possible to use 2 Slashing weapons? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>thanks</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>---------------------------------</DIV> <DIV>Baraka - 22 Ratonga Ranger</DIV> <DIV>Grobb Server</DIV>

It's highly recommended you keep both your Piercing and Slashing up and maxed, so you should wield 1 weapon of each type. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In T6 I now keep 2 slashers and 2 piercers, but that's for raiding purposes...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

There's no penalty for mixing is there, as in 1 pierce and one slasher? <div></div>

<DIV>no, no penalty for mixing slashing and piercing.  You'll hear from many rangers that it is critical to have one of each, especially in end-game content where some mobs are immune to slashing or piercing.  </DIV>

No penalty. you should use both to keep your skillz up:smileyvery-happy:

Definitely use both to keep your skills up. You don't want to find Uber Piercing  Dagger of Dragon Slaying and find you suck with it cause you have a 5 skill.

<P>Thank you very much for the replies!</P> <P>So it is best to use both, but I have another question. Im trying to raise my slashing right now because its low. Would I still be able to use all my combat arts, such as the 'backstabs', if I use 2 slashers while trying to raise my skill?</P>

Yes. The only combat arts of ours that require a specific type of weapon are (you guessed it) our ranged CAs, which require a bow. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Your melee arts don't differentiate between slashing and piercing weapons, and DWing two slashing weapons is the best way to raise that skill.

<DIV>Your skill with the weapon you're using in your primary hand while performing the CA will affect your chance of landing a successful attack with that CA though.  Just something to remember.</DIV>

<P>Quick easy way to bump up your Pierce and Slash is to go auto attack kill some grey's.  Don't use poison on them as they'd die faster.  Just pick some grey ^ or ^^ and hit auto attack.  You should take very little damage from them and you can raise your skills quite fast.</P> <P> </P>

harclave is the ultimate skill trainer really, my fury went from like 20 crushing to 130 in there in one run, just use no ca's no poisons no procing pants etc and melee autoattack the groups down with your underskilled weapon type.  It works at higher level as well, just be careful not to overagro and pull too many groups as usual. <div></div>

In EQ1 you could only get skill ups on experience giving mobs. Green was the non-experience there, so you could beat on greens till the cows came home and no skill ups. I am so happy they changed this for EQ2.</DIV>
