I must take my refuge at the rangers, as I've come to see one cannot be an assassin as a good wood elf. But during my change to predator, I choose Camoflauge as a special trait. It's was a folly descision wasen't it? It has no benefits over sneak, and will not progress?

Hey, we don't mind being second best.

Sorry, I'm not really sure what "Camouflage" is, can you explain a bit further? Keep in mind most of the higher-level folks haven't seen what the pre-20 game looks like since the combat update, so there are skills there that I haven't even heard of. Either way, I'm sure whatever choice you made wasn't game-breaking or even much of a setback.

Its a racial trait you pickout, which allows you to stay stealthed in one spot (but you cant move at all).

Don't worry mate, you have always /respec

:smileyhappy:

Oh! I've seen an identical ability on my dark elf inquisitor. Yeah, it's just a racial trait, doesn't harm anything. Personally when picking the traits (whether you /respec or not), I always go for the permanent enhancements - stuff like +4 to AGI or bonuses to Mental resistance. Only when all the good ones are used up did I start picking things like Ultravision or increased Tracking.

But yeah, this was a very minor pick, the /respec will allow you to correct it, but I wouldn't use it just yet. Wait for a while so you can revisit some other choices after having a chance to try them out.

Camoflauge in its description is very much like sneak....but has a 3 minute uptime and 14 min +- downtime (camoflauge 2, I could choose it as a benefit when I became level 10...a predator). Amongst those choices were agility benefits, or accuracy....this and that, able to pick any of my liking. When I picked camoflauge option, I initially believed it to be a choice of Predator itself...an advanced version of sneak.

At what time do you think I should correct this with /respec....and what racial wood elf benefits would benefit ranger most of all?

The AGI boost should be a priority, but you can pick that next time you get a racial tradition. Any other stat or resist boost is good, given that they all have at least some use to us rangers. (Ironically, Intelligence boosts your poison damage... go figure.) Just anything permanent; IMO you want to avoid the ones that say "augmentation, placed upon you..." etc. Those mean "another ability to put on your hotbar." Generally I haven't found those to be very worthwhile, but they probably got updated in the revamp. I just want something that improves my character, not a new spell-like ability that I have to cast in certain situations.

You could really /respec any time you want, but you'll only probably get one of them (I think?) so you want to make it count. I advised waiting b/c you'll probably have choices down the road that you'll end up wanting to revisit, so doing the respec later would enable you to tweak a variety of things. That said, I created my toon in January and have /respec'd at least 3 times in my 54 levels, so who knows. Don't lose a lot of sleep over it either way, though - this is a minor thing and will not make or break your character in the slightest.

what kind of different styles of play will I find in ranger? Is there anything I need to invest in to reach that, wichever I seek.

Gasp, I disagree with Jay. Up your Str, it will allow you to do more damage. Agi is nice but it's the one stat that increases the most on it's own as you level (or seems to) I would vote Str over Agi if you have the choice and then Agi over anything else if Str is not an option. If you can list the Wood Elf traditions I can try to tell you what I picked.

doesnt agility affect power to ranged classes?

Yeah it does, but as a DPS based class my personal theory is that the more damage I can do faster the better. I rarely rarely find myself running out of power outside of raid situations. In a well balanced group we can take things down way faster than I could hope to drain my power pool. I don't solo very much anymore so I dunno about that. I can say that agi also increases your avoidance and being avoidance based agi would be helpful for soloing, but as I don't really solo it's not key for me. Your stat balance really applies to your play style. Do what fits best for you. :smileyvery-happy:

so strength does increase the damage for arrows, can I get more confirmations? Because it's a tad confusing to see it happen like that ..compared to other mmo's

Strength increases all your damage skills, both melee and ranged. I definitely recomment you choose + Str every chance you can when you reach a training stage. Agi does increase a rangers power pool but we get many self buff to increase Agi and none to buff Str.

FWIW I think they have disabled the /respec command again... seems like I tried it about 10 days or so after they last offered it and got an error that said I "could not /respec at this time". So unless someone has done it since...

As has been said, choosing Camouflage is not the end of the world. I wound up picking it at L50, cuz it was the least sucky of my remaining choices.

STR Defiantly effects damage on CAs that use Melee damage. IE not spells. (It may effect those, but I don't know.) You can test this by highlighting a CA, remember the numbers then cancel a STR ring, or remove an STR hex doll. I plan on using two legendary STR hex dolls, and I have a Ruby imbued STR ring. I have an AGI ring as well, and probably won't dump my legendary AGI doll from the previous level in case it comes up as being needed. However, in the groups I've been with power is less of an issue, (with drinks and totems I've been waiting on everyone else) so we might as well drop the mob fast.

Nice find, but it does look a bit outdated - I don't think it's current as of the combat revamp, b/c there are traditions in there that were removed with LU13. Still better than nothing, tho.
