Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on making money as a Ranger. We have to dish out alot of money for our poisons and its tough to keep any money in bank. Here is the catch of my situation, I'm a level 53 ranger and im only at level 10 tradeskill since I hate crafting and to make matters worst I dont realy have any good skills at Harvesting :smileyvery-happy: Pretty pathetic I know, and I know that most money come from these two ventures, I just hate doing them. One way that I save money is by only using npc vendor poisons while fighting in group, since most of the time a group can handle any mobs without a problem and most people hate being out DPS by us rangers . I only use the legendary posions and stifle while solo. So I'm not so much looking for ways to make extra money but more about ways on saving money.

On another topic I just got Thorny Trap the other day and though I like it I was a bit dissapointed that it breaks rather easy on mobs with any ^. Only dissapointed because I was under the impression that it would root them a bit longer. Still its a nice addition to our abilities.

Thanks all in advance and I guess I should start increasing my harvesting skills Yawn.

Lesandis Dream

Eternal Hope

Wen upgrading your skills make sure you request the loam back from the combine to make the ink. The loam is the only legendary component to legendary poisons. I think that you can get more than one vial from one legendary loam and then more than one poison from each vial. This way you get the most bang for your buck and if you're not asking for the loam back I would bet the person making your ink is taking that and crafting legendary poisons or potions from it and selling them on the broker.

On Thorny Trap, I was also disappointed with it. It's a nice idea but I don't think it's terribly useful... I dunno.

Definitely enquire about the loams whenever you have a rare made into ink. Ask that the alch make you some legendary poisons with the loams. If not, ask for the loams back so you can have someone make the vials from them. Sadly, some alchemists will just neglect to mention the loams and are likely using them to make more money for themselves.

Maybe Rijacki or another alch can answer this: I just got an alt started on alchemy over the weekend, and made my first poisons for my brother's 15 rogue. I swear that I made multiple vials from a single loam - is that true?

As for making money - if you don't want to tradeskill or harvest, you'd better do a LOT of hunting, or have a penchant for working the commodities market. You're either going to have to sell a lot of loot, collectibles, or somehow figure out how to rig prices on your server.

I'm a woodworker and I can say that with cobalt ingots I can make multipul cobalt arrow heads (3 with a pristine combine) and then I can make multipul arrows from the arrow heads (25 with another pristine) for a total of 75 arrows per cobalt ingot. Not bad. I'm sure you don't get 75 poisons per loam, but I would imagine it's a similar thing, just less finished product per loam.

I'm not an alchy but I've talked to a friend who makes my loams and some poisons and she has stated multiple times for me that one loam will produce 3 vials/glass bottles. The bottles are used for buff potions, the vials are used for the poisons. She's a swashy so I give her 1 vial for making any spell for me as payment. It's a great arrangement we have. Definitely ask for either the loam or all 3 vials/glass back when having your adept 3's made.

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I was confusing myself by thinking (for some reason) that a single reagent produced multiple loams, but it only produces one - I know this for a fact from my own crafting, not sure why I blanked on that. Anyway, the loam in turn produces up to three vials, so you should get the loams back or get the poisons made.

For non-scout characters, those loams can also be made into potion bottles for legendary potions. Some of them can be very useful, so always be aware of the by-product when you're having an alch create ink for you. Too many of them will use your ignorance to their disadvantage. (ONLY work with people you know and trust, even if it's by reference.)

As I am an alchie and a jeweler (who are actually the ones who make the vials), I can second that. Only one loam is made as a by-product from making xnoid reagent, but 3 vials or glasses are made from a single loam.

I know it's still current as well, because I was making vases on my carpenter the other night and the jeweler ended up with 3 float glasses for each laom.

Someone mentioned a coast that you can make almost 1gp per kill? I'm not sure where it is or if it's a myth. Maybe someone else can fill us in.

I'm on Grobb and there is a group that is always farming Lavastorm beach. One of my Guildies picked up the HQ for the lizzards that these guys farm and, as a healer, couldn't get 5 in 30 min. Now a quick note about these farmers. The farmers are unguilded, don't talk, and accept every guild invite they get (although they are quickly booted once people know what they got). There is at least one Wizard and I think a swashy. So the guildie asks for help killing (40?) of the lizzards, since by the time he casts a spell these level 50+ farmers have already engaged the mob. I went out as did another guildie, leaving us with 2 Furys and me, (your friendly neighborhood ranger). We had the 40 kills pretty quickly but it was too much fun watching those Wizzards run in to nuke, start to cast, then realize the lizard died running towards me. =) The furys would run in and melee and had each created a macro for "Got one on me" and I would finish them off. What's the point in me telling you this? After being out there for about an hour, we all CoQed, I made 29g, and between the 3 of us we'd made a plat. I know you said you were interested in saving money, but this was fun, and profitable.

either group and kill stuff and sell the loot or go run round harvesting in the quiet time for rares. Stuff like ancient scrolls sell for 6g to a broker and adepts sell for 4g or sell the spells merchant mode and see if u can get a few more gold from them, even body loot is worth it. Rares can go from 1p for ironwood to maybe 3-4 for pearls etc...

On the loam I think a lot of people who get powerups don't even realise loam is a by product of the creation of the reagent. I maintain a pricing structure that offers a choice of either I keep the loam or you pay almost full market rate (theres a discount if you provide the ink). Thats explained up front and people seem very happy as I make 30-40 adept 3's for repeat customers and referrals per week. It has to be said I'm not a trader, hence I work on referrals or guilders etc, but most pricing on my server includes the loam being kept as the profit on the crafting is made via selling the potions/poisons not the ca/sa upgrade. Essentially we're not going to price at cost/free if we can't make the profit elsewhere and rangers such as myself are noticeably price conscious on their power ups! :smileywink: Mysteriously all non poison users I've dealt with jump at the chance of a free rare craft in exchange for the loam (I craft across the spectrum of class power ups not just scouts).

That said the person I dealt with last night was very unhappy with their regular supplier when I explained loams and their use to them up front last night. As a side issue their regular person wasn’t charging them anywhere near full market rate but I did think they should have mentioned it. Worst offenders are people who just produce the ink not the entire rune/essence/scroll I’ve found.

Best approach is to ask up front about the loam as if someone takes a job and prices accordingly its really too late afterwards to suddenly say ... what about the loam?

BTW: as regards a few posts above why on earth would I craft you bottles/vials for free as that involves quite a number of sub component crafts (at my cost of time and fuel) and comprises the majority of the cost of a potion/poison. Unless I was increasing my up front prices to cover that of course .....

(Not including guilders here who get everything for free.)
