I know this isn't strictly related to Rangers, but what do you think the best type of "Vision" to have, as a Ranger (see how I tied that back to Rangers there! :smileyvery-happy: , is? I originally created an Elven Mage class. They get infravision. It was good for finding live targets, but it stunk for seeing in the dark. I created my Ranger as a Kerran which gets Sonic vision (which I thought was very appropriate for a feline race). This is the Yellow type vision and is very useful for seeing in the dark. I never use torches. One of the racial traits that we can pick up is Ultravision, which works like Sonic vision, but it's a dark blue color. I found that I didn't use the UV, but continued to use my sonic vision. When the LU13 revamp came along, I dumped the UV choice and went with a different ability.

Darn. Forgot to put in that Hard return at the end of the paragraph. What's up with that?

Message Edited by Quillian Feetfast on 10-27-2005 12:51 PM

Message Edited by Quillian Feetfast on 10-27-2005 12:51 PM

I like my sonic vision the best. For sheer utility, I've used this one more than any others on my other toons. I also ended up with ultravision as a racial ability (after I'd exhausted the worthwhile choices) but I've only tried that once or twice - honestly don't see that this adds any benefit, it just turns your screen purple. The sonic vision did seem to be good for low-light situations, very appropriate for a kerra. But the name and description sound more appropriate for a bat than a cat - it's supposed to help you see objects in motion via soundwaves or something? That's way more like echolocation, whereas the actual effect just seems to be light amplification, like you'd expect a cat to have.

I'm a DE with ultravision and I used it once... I haven't tested the others out. Purple doesn't really do anything for me.

UV is one thing I wish EQ2 had inherited from EQ1.

EQ1 brand UV is great. This version is ick.

I never used Infravision until someone in the Ranger channel suggested using it while hunting in the water. I really had a lot of problems seeing mobs in the ocean until I turned on Infravision!

If any of them, the most useful has to be Aquavision. If it gets too dark on land, i can turn up gamma and see just fine. But underwater its murky, despite what time of day it is. Granted Aquavision doesn't up the range you can see underwater, but [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] it makes a difference.

Of all of them, I find sonicvision the most useful. Coincidentally, I have it as a racial ability. :smileyvery-happy: I agree with infravision's use underwater... many times, if you're not tabbing around constantly, you can bump into something's aggro range before you even see it! There's no terrain to dodge underwater really anyway, so seeing just the bright living (or unliving) things helps a lot. Aquavision is nice, too, but I still think infravision helps even better underwater. I picked ultravision for a racial trait because I already had the good ones, but I rarely have a day I feel like seeing things all washed out. =P

Erudite vision puts a green aura around priests and a blue aaura around mages. Knowing at a glance which mob is a healer and which mob will nuke you is EXTREMELY handy.

wish Iksar had the racial trait option to pick another vision mode.... i'm stuck with only aqua-vision!! i would gladly take UV or sonic

I've found the least useful is that ugly yellow vision. What is it, sonic vision? Seems like its only purpose is to make the world look like someone peed on it.

I find the UV completely useless out of the water. I can see mobs in an "infra-red" like way but it makes everything else to dark to see. The best vision adjustment I have is the knob on my monitor labled "brightness."
