View Full Version : Ranged Attack Animation
i am 25 ranger and i am very dissapointed with the animation of the ranged attack ; ; , maybe the bow are no "longbows" , but hell the animation just plain sux imo , can i get a FULL animation ? a cool 1 plz , shotting arrows looks ._. , i am alone no1 think in that? others than ranger shot 1 arrow each 100 years but i am shooting arrow and doing ca´s the whole time and animations are = all the same.i am woold elf but all the races shot the bow = ._. maybe this post need to go to graphics but i want to ask rangers how u feel about ranged attack animation .some ranger have a sig with the animation. look at it >.<

I guess I just cant figure out what could possibly make it look better. Essentially we have a few animations and they never change, just the damage as the abilities progress in their line. It would be very nice if they started to introduce fresh animations as we acquire new combat arts. Would keep the game fresh as we end up seeing the same few over and over.</P> <P>As for specific ranged animations....there are many options. Perhaps the ranger crouches down and fires (perhaps that is Hidden Shot), or perhaps you see him turn the bow sideways (parallel to the ground) to get off a special shot. That is quite realistic as it is done with real bows at times. Multitude of particle effects they could add to our bow abilities for variation.</P> <P>Here is a more out of the box idea: Ability called lets say "Tie-up". ranger ties a rope to the end of an arrow, fires, you see rope trailing behing as the arrow flies at the mob. It used to the animatiom for the pounce or Spinning attack AE CA ( Spring is on the higher AEs in that line) I liked seeing the Ranger doing that manuever. Now I see the Orcs and other Mobs doing that attack. It gave the Ranger a uniqueness that I don't feel is there anymore.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for Ranged Bow CAs, there isn't a lot of variation that could be added really. <P>Skuall, wow those are cool. The .gif is great as well. I agree of course, but would like to add that we need new bow artwork as well. They all look the same!!!!</P> <P>The bow in the.gif is neat looking and is simple enough to fit into the eq2 world nicely.</P>

I honestly haven't seen too much of the bow animation yet (I'm still pretty new), but at the risk of being negative, I do have to say that the only bow animations I've ever liked were the ones in Dark Age of Camelot, because they were the closest to being realistic. I know Legolas-style super heroic bow styles look cool in animations like FFXI and such, but with my minimal knowledge of real archery, I know that tilting the bow or moving it that much durring a shot would make for an extremely poor shot. In Camelot, they at least held the bow straight up and down, even though they let the bow move a little too much durring the shot. Of course, for all I know, EQ2 could use the dreaded "this is a crossbow, darn it" animation (I believe WoW uses that one *cringe*), and I'd take the most painfully generic archery animation over that any day. One thing I noticed right away in my few shots though was that the arrows themselves look better than most. Most games have the straight-flying heat-seeking arrow of death. I liked that there seemed to be a little bit of arc in the standard shot. Now, if there's one graphical enhancement I've always wanted in MMOs for archers, it would be an obvious one: bowstrings! I could understand why those haven't been worked into games in the past, but a game as pretty as EQ2, you'd think you could make a couple stretchy polygons to propel an arrow. Oh, and more specifically (and easily) it would be cool if there was a way to show both your sheathed melee weapons and your bow on your back... but I'm probably just saying that because I already love the sheath-unsheath animations in this game. Ah, how far we've come from walking into a tavern with a giant flaming broadsword in one hand, only to impale it in your head as you try to take a drink to your lips. ...So anyways! Cooler animations are always good! But I'd rather see more sparklies and pretty arrows accompanying the shots than to have my character backflip and shoot the bow with his teeth for every shot... Wait... maybe I should think about that last one... hmm... <div></div>
i played daoc aswell like hunter and i can tell u isnt bored cause u have total control of when u shoot or no the bow in eq2 u have control to shot, CA of bow and weapon but! , the animation in bows CA is the same in all them, bleh Gw still have better animations , fire arrows still fire arros , poison arros , traps and ect ect (played Gw to 20 ranger) , but eq2 need animations for bow , think on thata Mage take 1 class , put 40 spells , all looks the same but do different things , root, nuke , debuff , stun , and all look the same , how u feel? now take ranger , all combat arts with bow look the same.

Balancing of classes, issues with mobs, spells, CA's, bug, tradeskilling... getting new bow animations will be VERY far in the future.<BR> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But would still be cool...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
