View Full Version : Which Craft for a Ranger?

I'm a (very) new ranger, having just completed my flag quest, and I also enjoy crafting quite a bit. Currently, being able to make my own poisons/potions and app4 spells is a great help, but I have almost reached the point where I need to choose between Alchemist and Jeweler for my crafting subclass. Each of them obviously has its benefits, but is there any kind of consensus on which of them would be more useful overall for a ranger? I enjoy both and would be happy with either one, so that's not really an issue; I'm looking more for advice on things like how common Adept I runes are at higher tiers, or how effective higher-tier poisons are. Many thanks to any who can help! <div></div>

<P>I can tell ya I went Alchy becuase I liked to make my own poisons and potions (don't forget the potions). Player made poisons are more potent and have more charges than store bought and sell pretty well. Some potions will sell as well, mostly power regen, stat buff (agi, str, sta) and damage shields are the better ones for me.</P> <P>As for the drop rate of Ad1 they are pretty common drops for certain CAs, while others never seem to drop at all.</P> <P>Hope this helps and welcome to the family!</P>

<DIV>I have both, although I'm catching my jeweler up with my ranger so I can make my skills. Runes have always been somewhat scarce on the broker, but I haven't had a chance to look recently (too busy making use of the bonus exp <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) on Najena's broker. I would almost lean toward jeweler and make friends with an alchie or use the SQ storebought poisons once you're of a level to. I see a lot of rangers here posting that they just use that type. With the increased importance of skill upgrades, my ranking would be jeweler first and if you want, make an alchie alt.</DIV>

<DIV>Personally I took Alchemist</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Reasons:</DIV> <DIV>1) Alch's make Poisons & Potions (which I need in quantity)</DIV> <DIV>2) Alch's need very little in the way of intermediates from other tradeskills</DIV> <DIV>- Essentially they need Glassware which comes from a Jeweller</DIV> <DIV>3) Alch's can create all the refines & intermediates needed for that glassware</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4) Therefore with the assistance of a pet jeweller they can</DIV> <DIV>A) do potions</DIV> <DIV>B) Trade essences for runes (or otherwise have runes created)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Powys (40/32) Splitpaw</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
