View Full Version : The world just got a lot smaller for me

<DIV>Given that I now have no real stealth abilities - Hunt does not cut it I'm sorry - I will be unable to go to many places that I went before. It seems to me that I will be stuck in lower tier areas for a long time to come - unless I want to die a LOT more anyway. Am I the only person who feels this way? Am I missing something?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What can I do about this? I'm feeling very disappointed by this change as it seemed unnecessary and has reduced the world my character lived in. I had only just gotten used to using huntsman's trap and now it's gone - I can forget about travelling solo through places like the Feerott that's for sure.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sure, I understand that the game's not all about soloing but sometimes you just don't have a choice - a large proportion of my game time is unfortunately devoted to solo due to time zone. To make the game almost ALL about grouping - which IMO the changes seem to have done - seems odd. There was a balance before.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ok, this sounds like a whinge(really trying not to make it sound that way - looking for feedback really) but I really want to stick with the game but if 25% of places are now pretty much out of bounds upon pain of death what am I supposed to do?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyone have any ideas?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Cheers and thanks in advance.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

The changes are still too new to figure this out yet, but fortunately we have some very helpful and knowledgeable Rangers in here that will most likely post their hints and tips as they become available. I posted elsewhere a question about what stealth to use when (don't have the link right here) so we should be developing some kind of informal guide soon about Ranger stealth and how best to use it post Live Update #13. I know this isn't really an answer...but they should be forthcoming. <span>:smileyhappy:</span> <div></div>

<font size="2">I'm afraid that is a frustration that rangers at any level are going to have to deal with.  Creatures I previously sneaked by with ease can now see me.  While frustrating, it hasn't seemed to prevent me from doing the things I need to do.....yet.  I've found that I must use alternate routes, and/or in the case of roaming mobs, be more cautious about moving forward and timing the paths of the mobs and proceeding when risk of agro is at a minumum.  The instance that comes to mind are the fiery golems in LS between Solusek's Eye and Sol Ro Temple.  At one point you must cross a bridge to move forward, and there are 3 of these golems that can see through Hunt that wander around/across the bridge.  When the other 2 have moved away from the lava flow, you can sneak up close to the bridge with no agro, then when the bridge walker comes to the side of the flow that you're on, you can duck in behind him and cross without drawing agro.  It just requires a little more strategy. At this point, you may be thinking 'Well, if I still have to do that, what's the use of sneak?!'.  The answer is that if you did not have sneak, all the other mobs that reside in that area would agro you as well, making this trek impossible to do without taking damage or dying.  It's time to think outside the box(please, oh please forgive the cliche').  We essentially have a new class...I myself feel like a lvl 6 Scout again.  With the right attitude, these new challenges can enhance the game experience for us.  Don't give up....because I"m finding myself having quite a lot of fun so far. </font><div></div>

<P>I've heard with the new way sneak works that some Rangers can't sneak past mobs mobs that con white to them.  I'm not sure if you have that problem.  The only difference I have seen is the slower speed (I had the Hagar's full speed trait as I'm sure most Rangers did :smileywink: ).  Last night I travelled throu some of the Feerrott and most of Enchanted Lands with Hunt up and orange con mobs didn't see through it.  I met up with my group by where Baz spawns with nothing agroing me.</P> <P>Please let me know if this is not the case for other Rangers as I've had no problems with the new sneak.</P>

<font size="2">It's not an across the board kind of thing.  Certain mobs now have special 'see invis' or 'see stealth' abilities now.  The level of the mob is no longer the determining factor, as many blue mobs can see through sneak.  As well, I have passed by orange mobs in the expansion area that could not. </font><div></div>

<P>I noticed from before the patch that there were always a couple of mobs (even ones that were about the grey out) that could see-stealth.  For me, most noteably, there always seemed to be a lowly Centaur Archer in the South Bandit Camp in TS that would agro when all the whites and yellows would leave me alone.  So now we have to be even more careful.</P> <P>Does anyone know if Camoflage works against these see-stealth mobs?</P>

In my opinion the game should not be so easy as to be able to run through a zone many levels above you in no fear of danger. It IS a little more challenging to get around.. but you can. Hunt works fine...I have been able to invis past yellow heroics with it without aggro yet some white heroics may see me. It just takes a little getting used to, but you can definitely work around these changes. I like the challenge though. <div></div>

Bloodaber Ruffians (?) in CoB have always seen through my stealth even when they were green to me. The other bods in the mob couldnt though. I'm always cautious of the word 'lookout' or scout in a monster's title as very often they would have see invis. This has always been the case for me. </span><div></div>
