View Full Version : Pit Champion, absolute BS!

Alright, I've had it with the Dev's idea of "solo" with this guy. Let me tell you my setup here and what happened. lvl 33, BUT I leveled during the pit, so I got to 34, so the champ was only 1 lvl above me instead of 2. Equipment (Important stuff anyway) PGT feysteel tomahawk pristine imbued briarwood longbow pristine imbued chestpiece (30 hp/tic if it goes off) fabled leggings (decent stats, casts glyph of agility, +11 agi on proc) all other gear orange/yellow. Poisons Translucent Irrepressible Vexation 198 intital hit 32 DoT tick Translucent Frantic Petulance decrease mitigation of disease and poison damage by 347 Potions Translucent Elixir of Disease Protection increase mitigation of disease and poison by 158 Tranluscent Elixir of Sharpness Increase AGI by 12 Translucent Elixir of the Devout Increase STR and STA by 12 Translucent Ysanna's Revitalization Heals caster for 113 Increase health of caster by 56 every 5 seconds (lasts 30 seconds) Ok, by this list, it should be apparent that I can't do much better at all in terms of gear and preparation. The PGT is arguably the best weapon for scouts 32-40+, I have good gear all around and a procing bow to go along with my poison. I buffed myself as best I could with the potions and even had a legendary heal potion. It wasn't even close guys... I only got him to 35% before I died! I checked the combat log afterwards and things went so so proc wise for me. I got very unlucky with my PGT, only proced once but my chestpiece proced 3 times and I had the potion as well. Overall the healing added up too about 700hps which is darn nice since we have no heal spells at all. My poison proced alot off my bow of course and the decrease poison proced right away so I had its full benefit the whole time. Saw a few gleaming strikes in there as well... What gives!? I had almost everything in my favor as a ranger. Kited him around, got some big hits, buffed up pretty good...and only 35%?? Something has to change as this is complete and utter BS. I'm reading that wardens and warlocks are alomst in contest of how many times they can take him down, sometimes on a higher difficulty level, and I can't win ONCE as a ranger!? Do the devs even care that this "solo" instance is this hard? I'd like say what I really want to say, but this would just get locked or me banned, so I'll leave it at that. If anyone has any other suggestions on how I can do better, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'm hanging up Splitpaw till the devs fix this, and they better.. Zylin 34 Ranger 31 Provisioner

Let us try to figure out what's going wrong here.

Which damage type is he doing the most damage with to you? (poison, cold, melee?)

If you're getting beat on more by melee damage, stack the agi hex doll snare with your CA snare. This makes it easier to kite him around.

If the spells are doing more damage to you (which was my case before I won) throw on resist gear, use resist potions (I see you are) and throw a stiffle poison on. Use all legendary potions/poisons, none of that handcrafted crap. When I did it like this, I casted hex slow on him first, used my dps modifier and self haste skills and my weapons were procing and pounding so fast he could barely cast on me. Once it wore off I went into kite mode (90% health for me, close to 50% for pit champ), casting agi hex snare on him after I landed my CA snare. I finished with like 20% health. Use physical mit potions on top of resist potions if you plan to do it like this.

I did not throw on my PGT until after self haste wore off in an effort to produce more dps to get him as close to dead as I could before going into kite mode.

We scouts get a raw deal. We have to pay for the win. But it's challenging and it's fun. And like I said in another post, if I wanted an easy win I'd have been a warden or a sorceror.

Anyhow, that's how I did it, hope something here helps.

Finally Success !

Think it was lucky 27 ....... Anways, so what finally worked on the Pit Champ ? Heritage items, a rare poisen, and some help from the alchemist

My Set Up

Went for total defense with pgt mainhand and shiny brass shield off,and kited the whole time. Found a level 50 alchemist and learned a few things. Spent 18 gold on a slew of poisens and came up with 2 poisens that do overlap, a standard tho rare poisen and a debuff poisen, huge damage output increase with

Translucent influence of hate 25 % chance of 333 damage with 54 dot
Turbulent misery 20% chance to lower poisen resist 636

Then self buffed with 4 potions all last 30 minutes

Trans Elixir of Spiritual Awarenss Increase mitigation by 98
Trans elixir of Reflection Increase stam and str by 17
Trans Kistons protection Increase poisen / disease resist 622
Trans Elix of Heat Protect Increase heat / cold bt 289

For the curious my stats self buffed with pgt sbs and above elixirs was to me an impressive 200 agil, 137 str, 123 con, with 3668 hit points 37.7 mitigation and 64.9 % avoidance jumping to 66.1% with adroit buff up.

The Enemy

From what I can tell the Pit Champ is a toughened SK ( ^ solo ^ ) with extra hit points and abilities. All of his melee damage is crushing HO's (for 190-800) and 3 dots poisen and diseased base including a power drain that with pgt equipped is actually beneficial as once that wears off he casts a health dot and my health takes a real turn for the worse. Once in awhile also got hit with gey wind (shaman spell ??? ) for cold and heat damage, and he will snare you tho not as bad as we can snare him, so in a word, yes he is a very tough opponent.

For the Fight

Open up with culling herd, debil arrow, then its adroit to raise defense, snare, leg shot to slow and kite, hitting every archery CA as they came up, no melee at all. That was important, initially tried to go toe-to-toe with him when all my archery CA's were refereshing, and thats a big no-no as this guy can HO in quick succession for 760 damage ! Its a tight lil arena taking my view to extreme third person made kiting smoother and did not get hung up on any snags, and kiting counter-clockwise (yeah 26 losses so I got to lnow this arena well) seemed to go smoother with fewer snags.

You will get hit and a few dots will land so expect health to be lower than 40 %. Power use is tricky, once had him in red but ran out of power while most other times I hit evac at 10 % health and 50 % power.

Reward

Dissapointment the reward is the same my warlock bud got, wrist item with 10 int and 8 stamina was hoping it would be class specific at 10 Agil or Str and 8 stamina, that would have been nice.

Full info :

Arcane Champion's Wristband

8 stam 10 int 35 power
376 mental + vs 141 crushing
mitigation 43

However this was the best challenge I have had in a long time, sent me to the boards reading and in the end I am definitely a better informed ranger and much better at kiting.

Message Edited by Dyrks on 07-11-2005 05:43 PM

The only real difference between your setup and mine was that I stacked first (after the others that you mentioned) Psychotic Resistance (Stifle proc x4) and Bubbling Blood (BIG front end damage poison proc x4) and used up a charge of Scintilating potion (minor ds 18 points of dmg per hit). The 4 proc poisons were gone pretty fast and after a few adjusments from previous attempts I beat him fairly easily on the last (8th) attempt. The reward is only so-so in my opinion but then again beating him wasn't about the reward for me. After he waxed my [Removed for Content] the first time it was all about revenge :smileymad:

One thing I did notice though was that Manatsone was definitely not an option for this fight. On my final winning attempt though I still think the ds made all the difference, I combo'd sweet spot kiting, running for my life (aka regular kiting) and finally meleed him down the last 25-30ish %. I finished up with 30% health and 20% power. This mob while tough I think is doable, it just costs a lot of money for us Rangers to beat him (I have issues with this I won't get into :smileywink: )

Gratz on the win!! :smileyvery-happy:
