There is no good race, some races provide better stats but the difference isnt worth noting.

Never play a race because it may be better then others, play it because thats the race you want to be.

If thats not a good enough answer.. then yes, wood elves make good rangers :smileyhappy:

halflings rule :p

with our little pot bellies and sneaky troublesome ways we were made to scout. anyway who wants a lean muscled tall scout when you can have a hairy footed halfling with a fat tum :smileytongue:

Blasphemy from you two!

Gnomes >> All!

Gnomes don't have those nasty hairy feet and don't smell like spam.

Seriously though, the stats difference in the end mean very little. One good thing that I do like about my Gnome is we get a huge racial Deaggro. Confusing Baubble, descrease threat by over 600. Only downside is the 30 min recast on it. But, it has saved my butt a lot.

Halfling got one too, about 600 or 700 hate debuff. Racial skill.

One of the characteristics about Everquest 2 that I find most interesting is that Sony designed the game to not have races determine the overall operability of your class as it did in EQ1. Wood Elf is no longer the set Ranger class much as it was in EQ1 (although I am a wood elf....because I look hot). So when I get passed by troll and ogre ranger, I think its pretty cool.

Linyen
50 Ranger Permafrost
Fires of Heaven

All kerra, all the time! RAWR!!

But yet, wood elves are an acceptable second-best.

EQ2 defeats the character template molds. It's rare to find two toons with the exact same subclass/race/skills combo. I've seen erudite and ogre scouts, gnome and halfling berserkers. I see this as a good thing.

The downside is that a lot of people have to figure out their own charactyer templates now. oh well :/

Dwarf ranger is the way to go! If you like playing dwarf, that is. Besides, we get to live in Graystone, which is the best hometown... perhaps.

Anyways...

As Ebjelen said - there is a very good variety of races+classes, which is good. Too bad everyone looks that same. Highlevels even have the same gear. Sigh
