The problem with a spell like rip is two fold.

First, its only a lvl 30 ability so paying alot of gold for something you replace later on is viewed by many as a waste.

Secondly, and most importantly is that upgrades of rip don't really do anything other then increase damage, for an ability which doesn't do much damage to begin with.

If successive version of Rip returned more arrows you'd be better off, but Rip master 1 returns the same amount as app 1.

And for a minor damage difference of perhaps 20-30 points(at most) from adept 1 to master 1 for an ability only usable once every 30 seconds its just not much of a big deal.

Sorry.

Message Edited by Rian18 on 05-08-2005 07:10 AM

That is what I was afraid of...=( I had not really looked into master spells before I got this but then I started checking them out. It seems most spells are not properly scaled....I think I'm gonna do some research and make a thread somewhere. If you look from app 1 to adept 1 is usually a decent change. But from say adept I to adept III or master I there is only a marginal difference and is generally not worth the money it would take to upgrade it. Oh well, I have a 22 ranger so maybe I'll just save it for him because what I was told by a ranger in my group tonight that it only went up like 10 damage and to me I would not pay that much more then an adept spell for it. Well thanks.

Personally I would save it. Eventually SOE has to get around to fixing the scaling of abilities from app 1 to master 1.

Its ridiculous right now that the difference between say app IV and master 1 is so minimal.

The inherent problem tho is even if they do fix it and give master 1 abilties significant advantages then adept III and so on down the line, its still going to be a hard sell to convince someone to splurge 1 or 2 plat for a master I abiltiy they replace later on anyway

I actually purchased Rip Master 1. As Barb Ranger on Guk I had just hit the lvl 30 that gave me Rip App1. I had seen an adept 1 for sale for about 2gp. I then waited till the next day and gave another look. There it was Rip Master 1 for 40gp. I think I thought about it for a day and then bought it. I am now a 36 Ranger and I have to tell you its been worth every penny. The dmg is very consistant vs when I used App1. I always produce an arrow and rarely... if ever do I miss. I would say that if you got this master early, its worth it because its several lvls before you get an upgrade. 30(Rip) vs 44.8 (Tear). The length of time you have this upgrade would be key. Anything post lvl 35 or would be a bit moreof a waiste. I currently carry 12 stacks of Feyiron arrows and 8 stacks of makeshift arrows on me at all times. With Rip Master 1 and Makeshift Arrows Adept1 I am never a ranger with out DMG to fling. Be well hope it helps.
Message Edited by Pridebringer on 05-08-2005 10:44 AM

Rip and Tear had misleading spell descriptions for a while. You always get an arrow, it summons you one. You never had to hit a creature with an arrow to one back. That being said, upgradable Master 1's are worth buying IF you get a good price. Some people are still of the mindset that Master 1 anything = get rich quick. Sorry, it's simply not true.

Saw a Shadow (Master I) for sale on Kithicor for 71g tonight. Maybe, if your a level 30 taking on a level 45 mob, this might come in handy. I can make the Adept 3, but I couldn't justify using a rare for this spell, so i stuck with the app IV. I certainly wouldn't consider buying a Master for that price. I'd rather spend my money on a horse and kite reds all day, and I hate kiting, lol.
