That's some pretty high agility for your level. If your strength is balanced with it, you're doing pretty darn good.

Actually that is sort of the purpose of this post, I was worried about the balance of the skills.

I've been getting all agility items.

My Strength is at 79. So it's not very balanced.

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/pplayer.vm?characterId=178286109

It depends on what you want to do, actually. We rangers are made to produce DPS, and strength affects how hard you hit. Once I got away from trying to get my agi as high as I could and started concentrating on strength, I noticed a big difference in how much damage I was doing.

In a group before, my str was around 120. Now it's anywhere between 260 and approaching 300. I beat my highest hit with crippling blade by a few hundred with this change. I get closer to max damage with CAs more often on regular mob types as well with the higher strength.

It's up to you though, if you are doing a lot of tanking like I was while leveling (duo exp > group exp imo), keep the agi for now for the avoidance boost, it's what I did. If you group more than anything, I highly recommend str. If you do both, even it out the best you can.

I play about 80% solo so for me not getting hit is better than hitting big in many circumstances, but I suppose if I hit harder the fight would end quicker and I wouldn't need the extra agility..... hmmmmm :smileysurprised:

I'm going to try to carry a couple of extra items and get some strength food and see how that makes much of a difference.

lvl 38 Ogre Ranger (Ogres have low AGI) and mine is 160 self buff'd. 139 without buff's. My STR is 112 Buff'd. My biggest issue is AGI doesnt do much. Buffing from 139-160 raises my mitigation 1.4 %.. whoopee..

I'll admit that after the agi nerf, agility is not as effective as it once was. But the difference between having 100 agi and having over 200 agi is noticable, espcially with a mystic healing you.

In test right now, they are tweaking agility yet again, making agility bonuses more effective. They're doing the same thing with strength. Don't expect to see this change, if at all, for a few months though. It's all part of the melee revamp they're cookin' up for us. You can read about it here:

Combat Changes

Anyhow, it's like I said, it all just depends on your playstyle and preferences.

You have to remember that AGI doesn't only affect your avoidance, but it is also where your power pool comes from. Having high str may make you hit harder, but if you don't have the power for your abilities your gonna be sitting in the dog house in longer fights with straigh up melee w/ no abilities. I haven't had enough time to check out how everything balances personaly, but I'm slowly trying to make the transition to str items and power regen items. I have my mana stone, robe of invoker, and prismatic weapon now so we'll see how it goes.

-Jerik (50 Ranger of Innothule Server)

i'm level 33, and buffed solo my agi was 200 and my strength was 80something. i'm a prov so i can play with different foods, and i changed to strength food instead of agi to bump up strength some. and i'm looking at my armor again, i have several d'morte pieces that have agi on slots that don't normallly have agi, i may switch a couple of those out for strength.

Strength is definitely important (which is why I have strength hex dolls and other misc. items) for how hard you hit and I do suggest trying to get boosts where you can. However, Rangers are based on agility and I personally feel in the future, agility will be huge for a Ranger.

It is true that agility does play a role at the moment with the power pool and some other relatively small issues. With self buffs I currently have 247 AGI, with a max of 367 in a group. The benefits are noticeable but not great. SOE did state and are working on a revamp in how agility works. This may not be the initial reason to go get a bunch of agility gear, but yes....in the future agility will have a more profound effect on the character. I am sure that even further in the future they will make its bonuses even greater.

For rangers, I think they should test on making agility have haste increases on top of its current benefits and any additional future ones. If your agile, your going to be able to hit a mob more in my opinion. I am not proposing huge haste increases, but perhaps having 400 AGI would grant 25% haste having it decrement with the lower amount you have. I just throw 400 out there because it is not too far from reach, and with the upcoming expansion I am sure it will be even closer.

These thoughts were just my opinion and were quickly thought up and spit out. I guess I would say focus on agility for any benefits down the road, but try to get strength increases also.

Linyen
50 Ranger Permafrost
Fires of Heaven

the mob you are fighting has a profound outcome in your damage so its not the be all and end all to have really high AGI or STR as i have found out

my current STR is around 130 and AGI 180 buffed but in groups obviously goes higher - hitting lvl 50 giants in Sol eye my crippling blade was hitting for 500 600 yet hitting those embers was going over 1000 and they were the same level, same with my bow shots so its hard to say as my STR or AGI is x amount so my damage should be Y amount all the time. Wish it worked like that but it doesnt.

Maybe when the new changes come out this will be different.
