i am sure the following happened.

i was in storm hold getting access to tov, anyways im killing squires for the updates. I targeted a group of 2 and was going to work on them, used survival of the fittest and my spell jumped to the other close standing group and they aggroed. this also happened with blazing thrust on a lone ^^ skell, the spell jumped and hit the nearby knights!!!

since when do these 2 spells act as an AE and hit untargetted mobs? this has never happened to me before. Please can you guys check this to make sure im not going mad.

For some unannounced reason they added an out-of-encounter area affect to the Blade Flurry proc Swipe. Most likely that is what you are seeing.

Aye. I noticed that if I am soloing non-aggro mobs (beach in EL) and get to close to another non-engaged mob that it will sometimes aggro.

K

Yep - happened to me to. Too much going on at the time to figure out what triggered it but Blade fury seems to be a likely culprit . Hate having to fight greys though just because they were aggro'd this way.

Thank you! I was in SH killing Life Leeches and was wondering just what was giving me AE effects. Darned SoE need to tell us if they're going to make stoopid changes. Also annoyed beyond belief for the Steady Aim buff timer changes.

Yep was happening to me too killing skellys in TS. Greys were jumping on me like crazy. If Blade fury is causing it I will be turning it off.

Ahhhhhhh.... So that explains the little incident I had with the 4 red Bears in EL last night. They dropped me like, well, a ranger. Everytime I'd try to evac, it'd get interupted. Next time I'm running. Or better yet, I'll just stop using AoE skills around multiple red mobs, lol.

Not sure if its blade flurry or not as I always have that up and doesn't seem to cause me problems. What I have found out, that I am able to duplicate, is hitting stalk when I do a stalk-melee off-shadowflame combo. Anything nearby comes straight for me. Had this happen in COB and kept getting (Barely) grey shrillers on me. On the flip side, the Mystic I was with kept getting the same thing happening to him with one of his spells, cant remember which one he said causes it. Neither of us could figure it out at first so our grp would fight one thing we needed then have to fight everything we didn't want before moving on. I started suspecting stalk as this is a hate reducer while in a fight but a mild agro inducer to anything you have targeted before a fight (good puller where arrows are troublesome). It just appears that now it is an AOE on anything targeted or not targeted in the area. After pulling two gray lions into a grp fight with bloodtalon I now have to use stealth which so far has worked and save stalk for when i get agro'd and evade doesn't work

There could be more than one spell causing it and others have said that its happening with different classes also? At the very least I think we all need to do some testing (perferably amonst greys :smileywink I do know that I always have blade fury up but this is not yet conclusive as to the cause. ADDS = BAD even if grey.

It has happened to me, but I think only with bow CAs. I stopped using triple shot if anything is close to my target, since that seemed to cause the occurance more than anything.

As far as normal melee combat though? Hasn't happened to me yet.

Perhaps this is an attempt to make it more realistic? Have you ever been in a bar when a fight broke out?

If you are standing too close you might get smacked, causing you to aggro the idiot drunk that started the fight. I see similarities here.

heh heh

Kwent

Noticed that too.... I was in TS and fighting a group of green down arrow lions and I was close enough to a couple of greys that they somehow attacked me.... didn't realize it was because of my blade furry, but had to evac as I had way too many mobs on me at that point even though they were low level....

I do have BF turned on... but it sounds from this thread as tho it's possibly something else going on. Someone needs to do some very careful testing and review their combat messages in detail for any clue. I will try to do same if this ever happens to me. Meantime, I suggest attempting to describe it and bugging it. it must be blade fury causing it. It happened again while i was just auto meleeing.

It is BF and it also applies to ranged weapons as well as melee. After the multiple red mob incident, I went back to hunting as normal with BF up. I pulled a mob with a Bow CA (Triple shot I think) and a non-aggro mob standing next to him also attacked. BF has obviously been changed from an encounter-only AoE to standard AoE. I'll bug it when I get back on, but SOE may have purposely change the skill. We'll see.

Edit: I sent a request to a Dev to ask if this was a design change or a bug, which I now regret because I'm going to look just plain stupid. Afterwards, I examined BF and it's effects state

- Casts swipe on caster. On successful attack this spell has a 10% chance to:

-Inflict 23 - 39 Damage on targets in AOE.

That pretty much sums up that this is a planned design change. We'll just have to be more careful about using it, but it does seem to be much more effective than when it was just a chance to hit an additional target, so think of it as an upgrade. I never used it if I was in a group with a Mezzer anyway.

Message Edited by Gareorn on 04-23-2005 06:30 AM

I keep forgeting to put my blade fury up and this insident of yours hasn't happend to me yet but I have used just about every other skill eg triple shot. My thought is that the reason triple shot seemed to have this effect is that swipe normally went off on triple shot for us rangers and so when using it you might swipe a nearby mob. I find it pretty bad myself it should be a single target proc I don't wanna break mezz or pull extra mobs cause of our crappy little bonus.

Message Edited by sjastein on 04-24-2005 05:07 AM

Agreed. I'm kissing Blade Flurry goodbye, it's been gray for years now anyway and I just had it up so I could have it up. Now that they've changed it so it's more of a hassle than any meager benefit, I'm removing it from the hotbar to make sure I don't accidentally activate it out of habit. Too bad, I like my self-buffs.

BTW, was this announced?? I thought I just had missed it, but given some of you guys' comments I'm beginning to wonder if this change was included in the patch notes?
