View Full Version : Spring behaving strangely

<DIV>Noticed a couple of strange things happening with Spring these past few days. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Firstly, this is the AE spell I have, and from what I can tell it's meant to hit all the mobs in the encounter that are within range, or at least have the chance to hit them. Sure, if a mob is too far away, it won't land, but recently I've noticed it hardly lands on anything at all. I don't even get a message in my combat text to say I've missed, like I do with all my other attacks. I'm sure it used to hit a hell of a lot more often than this.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The second thing has also only started happening recently, the most obvious one occurred last night. I'd offered to help out a necro guildy and was fighting groups of greys for a body drop for him. Because I like using Spring on groups, I'd stealthed myself, targeted the group, and snuck over to jump them all. Clicked the Spring icon, and all hell broke loose. I got a message saying 'No eligible target' despite having the mobs clearly targeted. I didn't perform the attack, yet the icon blacked out and began to recharge as if I had. And all the mobs descended on the poor necro, killing him in about 5 seconds flat, before he'd even cast a spell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's not the first time I've had the 'no eligible target' message either. Again, it's started appearing in the last week or so, no matter if i'm assisting a tank or clicking on the mob myself.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This just me...?</DIV>

<div></div>Please change the title of your thread from "behaving strangely" to "Spring is currently broken". Exactly whats the point of having an AoE spell that only hits one mob? Devs please take a look at that particular spell and its counterparts and please fix it. Thank you. <div></div><p>Message Edited by IsleWitch on <span class=date_text>04-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>05:55 PM</span>

It's only broken sometimes. Tonight if Perma it was working perfectly, a couple hours later in EF it was broke.

<DIV>spring was working fine in CT tonight</DIV>
It was working fine last night for me in Nek castle. Went in the nyth doll room in the basement and hit hit a bunch at once just like it was supposed to. I think I wracked up about 700 damage total hitting 5-6 dolls and the big marrionette.

<P>I was transitioning from Pounce hitting all to the Spring when both were changed/fixed to be limited range and only a chance to hit rather than a guarantee. I definitely miss the good ole days when it hit every mob in the encounter regardless of distance or count. I also hate the long re-use timer and the need for stealth. Maybe we aren't meant to be AoE oriented but Spring didn't do much before and now it does less. There are just too many drawbacks on the ability for how little it accomplishes, imho.</P>
<DIV><FONT size=2>Personally, I could probably count the number of times I've used Spring or Pounce on one hand, and I'm level 35. I guess it's a neat thing to be able to do, but if I have to stealth first, I'm gonna go for a 400+ damage backstab in the hopes of killing or seriously hurting one creature. Doing a little bit of damage to every creature in the mob doesn't seem all that useful, to me. </FONT></DIV>

Admittedly it doesn't get as frequent use as many other ranger abilities, but it is generally worthwhile to open with Pounce/Spring on encounters with 4 or more mobs (provided the ability is actually working properly).
It might be that some of the mobs were mezzed. It doesn't hit mezzed mobs and therefore can be used safe in the knowledge that you're not going to wake up a sleeping mob <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Personally if I am fighting a group of mobs I will always open my stealth attacks with the Spring line. It might only do 100 damage, but multiply that by 6 mobs and add poison to each of those and it's a lot of damage. It's a good way of keeping yourself at the top of the DPS charts. <div></div>

<DIV>Personally, Spring is (or used to be) one of my favourite attacks at the beginning of group fights, especially in places like Runnyeye where you had groups of about 6 goblins at a time. Position yourself stealthed in the middle of them and get that off... Adept 1 did fairly good damage, but also would proc poison more often then not, as well as proc my PGT and bow. It was a great way of starting things.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've resigned myself to the fact that it'll now only hit one or two mobs (if I'm lucky). I just still can't figure out the 'no eligible target' bit. It doesn't always happen, just occasionally. Zone doesn't seem to make a difference. It's been working fine for a week or so, then happened again last night. Spell blacks and recasts, but I didn't get to use it.</DIV>
