Ladies and Gent's:

Is there an attributes guide, especially one written with Rangers in-mind (i.e., in this forum)? The brief outline in the manual doesn't satisfy and I can't seem to find one that isn't really basic. I understand the basics (more STA = more HP, etc.), but I suspect it's more complicated...

My real question is: are INT and WIS really not necessary for a good Ranger?

-Pleiades
Ranger of 37th Season
Highkeep

Well... this is only my opinion, and only my observations (with no in-depth study), but i would say: Agility : the most important stat for ranger = increases avoidance, increases accuracy, also the ONLY stat which affects to our POWER POOL (which is really important to rangers since most of our CA:s cost quite a lot of power) Strength : Affects you CA:s (atleast non bow CA:s) dmg, also your melee efficiency is more or less determined by this skill (increase STR and your attack rating number goes up, also effect to melee dmg goes sumthing like: 100str = 110% bonus, 200str 125% bonus etc... info posted somewhere in these boards...) [note: those % numbers might be slightly off... sry] Stamina : Affects you HP, havent really found any other "use" for this stat (heh...) Intelligence : Havent found ANY use for rangers to improve this particular stat (i know this affects Mages power pool, i have tested, and dont affect ours [only AGI does imho, like i already stated above]) Wisdom : Same as Intelligence, no use for us, only difference to INT is that this stat affects healers power pool I dont know for sure, how much more important STR will be after LU#7, but i wouldnt neglect to raise STR evenly with AGI... Agility if by far the most important stat for us imho, because it increases accuracy, avoidance and also gives us more power, from which our DPS is highly dependant. (Ive heard there is a soft cap to avoidance with 200 AGI, but havent really tested this, even if there is one, having AGI over 200 still gives you more power) :smileyvery-happy: Well... this is my thoughts about attributes, comment and fill in any wrong / missing information please. ++Xan (lvl 40 ranger on Oasis)

Message Edited by xandez on 04-19-2005 04:01 PM

I don't see a great improvement in accuracy when i raise my agility, but when i raise my strenght, i see it ! We need an "accuracy" line in our stats page imo. At least i'll know why i hit mobs more often and don't just guess.

Well I was one of the people that actually read the manual and picked AGI for all my attributes. Of course I also concluded from the manual that scouts would be the best class to solo with . /eggonface. I'm really confused now as well. I have more power than I really need at the moment. Guess I should have thrown in more STR. I still haven't /respected but I'm gonna wait until things get setteled. (29 Ranger atm)

Very interesting post... I've been solely focused on agility bonuses but now I'm going to find some strength !

Thanks, Xan...

And, Camp, I did read the manual; I'm just curious what the other stats do, which I couldn't find in the manual.

It's odd as in EQOA (I know, I know ), INT affects how spell-proc's trigger and WIS affects max. bow damage (not mean, but maximum). Basically, all stats are important and it doesn't seem so in EQ2.

Does anyone know about this soft-cap of 200 AGI? What does that really mean? If I have 196 AGI, add 10 more AGI and I'm at 200 rather than 206 there's nothing "soft" about it! Worse would be if your AGI did add up to 206 but for in-game calculations it was max'd at 200. Good gawd, it's already confusing enough that abilities like Adroit, Tolan's Talent and Foresters Insite don't stack.

Basically, I guess I just want to confirm that I'm not missing the point of INT & WIS.

-Ple

Message Edited by Pleiades on 04-19-2005 11:04 AM

What does that really mean?

Soft cap in 200 means that after your AGI hits 200, the points over it dont affect as much as points before it, eg. if you had 190 AGI and raised your AGI by 5 would raise your avoidance by 0.1%, compared to if you had 200 AGI and raised you AGI to 205, might only raise your avoidance by 0.05% Hard cap in 200 would be like after 200, the AGI points woudnt mean any difference (except of course to our power pool ) (those numbers are just examples, not any real %) ++Xan
Message Edited by xandez on 04-20-2005 10:44 AM

You'll see that ranger's spells cost a [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]load of power. When i fight a big mob, i'm always out of power if i want to keep the dps highest as possible since i chain cast everything. I did pick agi also for all the stuff u can pick every couple of lvl. But i got some more STR oriented gear. At first i got like max agi and kinda low str. now i'm around 200 agi and about 150 str, i see a real diff on raid mob, i hit them easier. this is why i think str affects chances to hit. It might have been lack of luck before or not, so i'm not 100% positive on that.

Furys have nice buffs, which in particular raise your agility a lot... Well, i have around 200 agi with my own buffs already. After the fury buffs, my agility was around 270, and i realized that the soft cap (or there may be even a hard cap at some point) does indeed AFFECT TO POWER GAIN THROUGH the AGI stat ALSO! I had 1948 power before the fury buffs (around 200 agi) and 2050 power (!?!?) with the fury buffs on (with around 270 agi) So.... Raising agility seems kinda useless after around 200, atleast you really dont benefit from it... Go to STR, atleast it will affect something and is much less likely to hit any caps, since eg. for me (wood elf) getting high STR is more difficult than getting high AGI Just my whiney thoughts :smileysurprised: ++Xan (lvl 42 ranger on Oasis)
