View Full Version : Wondering if a Ranger is my calling ?
<DIV>I am new to the game(1 week) and have always loved to play a ranger/hunter.Before I go too far down this path, I thought I would ask how you rangers like your choice? Would you respec to another class if you could? What do you like and/or dislike about your choice? Thanks.</DIV>

I haven't regretted my choice a bit. First, there's the sneaking. In this game, there's plenty of benefits to exploring the world, and scouts can all do it well. I do envy the rogue group-stealth abilities, though. It's great fun to crawl through places that you have no business being, to finish a quest or just look around. Archery - you don't really feel like much of an archer until your late 20's, when you get lots of bow combat arts. But at that point, you'll find yourself openning each fight with a mighty volly of arrows before closing for sword-work. And occasionally it might not be safe to fight close up - it's good to have solid ranged attacks for a different style of fighting. Tracking. Trap-disarming. It's nice to have utility. It's a joy when the group says, "Follow the ranger." Of course, all scouts get that too. I'm sure there are lots of complaints that I could think up. But honestly, nothing has really bothered me much so far. (Level 33 at the moment.) So, if you do feel a calling, it's probably the right path for you. <div></div>

<DIV>I would say that ranger is one of those classes that almost absolutely requires the best gear in order to function where it should be. I love the class, but in order to keep up to soloing blues for your level, you will forever be upgrading your armor / weapons (more often than others anyway). But, you should always strive to be your best =+D</DIV>

<P>I love it. I'm only lvl 44 atm, but I still have a blast playing my ranger. I like not being a hybrid. there was a time in my 20s, that I thought about rerolling, but I'm glad that I stuck it out. Plus, they are slowly, very slowly, fixing us. </P> <P>A bit of advice, use poisons! A lot of lower lvl Rangers I talk to, still have no idea that they can even use poisons.</P>

I'll ding 29 next time I log in, and I love my Ranger. To me, there is nothing more exciting than sneaking to an opening surrounded by hostiles, pulling one, killing it and going stealth again before anything else wanders into range... <div></div>

36 here.. love my Ogre Ranger. I rerolled from a 26 Zerker after they took a large nerfing. I thought Zerker was going to be a wildman swinging weapons and inflicting large amounts of damage... they werent.. so i rerolled to a ranger.. definately what i was after <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

<DIV>I think it would be easier for you to bring up a Ranger now than it was for me back in November. Our class has gotten some much needed fixes. Also, with the addition of even more solo content there is more variety for the solo Ranger.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I agree with the above posters - you need to have good gear. Save your money and research what you plan to purchase. Do your Armor quests. Use posion. Have fun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwent</DIV>

<DIV>Play a class that you feel you would like to play. Every class has perks and interesting things that make the game fun. If you find it appealing to you, play it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All classes have "issues" that get fixed, dont forget, it is impossible for developers to fix everything at once. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Linyen</DIV> <DIV>50 Ranger Permafrost</DIV> <DIV>Fires of Heaven </DIV>

<DIV>My first recommendation is dont pick a class becuase it's supposed to be the best soloer, or the best dps etc... esp. since today they may be great and the next patch you might be the worst.:smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV>I personally have played a ranger in every RPG ive ever played for the mere fact that i love the class, so my second recommendation would be just to play what you want and what makes ye happy!!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Cheers,</DIV>

<P>Im a very indecision person when it comes to MMORGs, I got a wizard up to 34, a zerker up to 20, a defiler up to 27, and now my ranger just got 23 today, and all I can say is, Im having a lot more fun with this guy than any other toon. </P> <P>I found myself bored alot with the other toons in fights cause a lot is repetative, but Im never board in a fight with my ranger cause IM always doing something different, switching between melee and range. And when soloing, Im trying to land the dizzy after HO and sneak around the target to in time before he recovers and blast him for high damage is so much fun! Plus there is sneaking around, poisons, tracking, disarming, safe fall! Safe fall is so much fun! its great to fly off a cliff while being chased and look back at the mobs stagger and try to get down but they cant :smileyvery-happy:</P> <P> I love how SOE made the ranger in this game. I dont think any MMORG ranger can compare. I know my friends dont believe me when I say this, but this is my main for sure!!! :smileyhappy:</P>

<DIV>Much like Davilan77 I am indesive when it comes to picking a character class and sticking with it sometimes is hard for me. The ranger is what I started with, but I felt maybe I could duo better (as I like to dual box due to time constraints ect ect). So I tried a bunch of other classes besides the ranger, tried doing warrior-guardian, tried brawler-monk, tried summoner-conjuror, and just didn't fit the same with me as the ranger.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only problem is, every person is different. You might like a pizza with mushrooms but I don't like mushrooms, and the next guy might like anchovies. Ya just gotta try each slice a little and see if it will sit in your stomach =+)</DIV>

<P>Yes. Nice words Jay.</P> <P>I was in a Blood Chronicle instance the other day, a monk, Guardian, wizard and me. Three of us were taking on this tough Group mob whilst the Wizzy was up a path on a ledge looking down on us doing his bit to the mob when he finally nuked too hard and got the aggro. The mob raced up the path to him, the fighters looked around wondering where the mob went, and as I was at the back shooting in arrows, saw the mob run up after the wizzie. The mob reached the wizard, I raised my bow and with steady aim, let loose a single leathal shot at the mob. The mob fell dead at the wizards feet with an arrow in his back. That felt good. That was what being a Ranger was all about at that moment.</P>

Very nice Jay. Lol I was laughing so hard when I read that because I was expecting "I am an Army of one" at the end. Oh man if it gets out how much fun Rangers are to play (for the people that understand being a Ranger where SoE is involved takes a very special type of personality) we'd end up FotM. Well written and definately one of those "God I'm glad I'm a Ranger" moments. <div></div>

I suspect many of us, including myself, do a lot of solo and we are proud to say we conquered adversity using our own skills. Whenever I do group, another set of players realize just how awesome Rangers are. I know because they tell me. I have a vision of standing on a cliff with the wind blowing through my red wood elf hair and surveying all that I can see. I know that whereever I choose to go, I will have no fear because.... I'm a Ranger.</DIV>
