I got the Pick Off skill over the weekend. I keep meaning to /bug /feedback it in-game but have been forgetting so I'll post it here to remind me. It is the upgrade to Corner. And what's wrong with it?

It is a bow attack. It uses a bow attack animation to fire a shot whereby the effect of the Combat Art is achieved. The text is also of a ranged, bow attack.

Here is the problem:

It doesn't use arrows.

It doesn't cue damage based on the equipped bow.

It doesn't have range according to equipped bow.

It is not a bow attack in any sense of the word other than art and text.

It is (almost always) used at point blank range.

So what's the deal? Is it a ranged attack or not? It's certainly not the best of both worlds. (cuz if it were I wouldn't be complaining) It is almost a mockery... It's seems to say that bow attacks are window dressing since the aspects of this that resemble archery are window dressing.

What I don't want:

Pick Off to only be usable at range.

Pick Off to start consuming arrows without significant improvement in damage/utility.

Should it be changed? I don't know:

Pick Off could be useable point-blank and at range.

Pick Off could be changed to a melee Art.

Pick Off could consume arrows with the addition of significant damage/utility.

I just think if you look too closely at this Combat Art, it's kinda disenchanting/rp-breaking.

pickoff does not use a bow, its labled as a medium-range attack, however there is a difference between a "low/medium/long range" attack and an attack that "requires a ranged weapon". The latter relates to CAs that use your bow, the former just means you can be a step or two back from the mob and still hit it.

I am new to the skill but I am fairly certain it does use the bow animation. I try to get some screenshots this evening. You are correct, in a way, that it does not use a bow. It may not require a bow to be equipped. I'll test that this evening as well. It certainly does not require arrows, as I noted.

I guess most of the foundation for my post is hinged on the bow animation. So, I'll definitely try to get some screens up this evening. And, yes, I will post the screenshots even if they show that I am mistaken

The last update it was changed to a bow animation. However, it is still the same as before. It doesn't use any arrows, it has the same range as before; which means its used in melee range. Its not a danage CA, its one of our debuffs. The change was purely cosmetic. I really don't know why they did it.

It appears to be a replacement to Corner, as the timers are linked.

Complain?

If I came off as whining or complaining, I apologize. I know many people think there are mega game-breaking issues in the Ranger class but that doesn't mean every post has to address such issues. I wouldn't presume to know the hi-level issues since as I indicated I am still lvl 36.

I tested a little more last night. It does not use a full bow attack animation, the bow is actually missing. The arrow is there but the bow is not. And yes an arrow sticks out of the mob after a hit. Another interesting tidbit: A bow is required to use the skill. All in all, just a bit of quirkiness.

This is cosmetic but I also consider it significant because it is highly visible. I consider this attack to be a melee mainstay from now through my 40s. So while you might think I am being petty it is still note-worthy, imho. Sorry, no screenshots since I forgot to post last night from my game machine.
