I really enjoy playing the Ranger..... Melee attacks, Ranged attacks, self buffs, group buffs, ability to solo, fit in with any group..... what is not to like?

Heya! I love being a Ranger. The freedom to go anywhere (using sneak skills) and sling some SERIOUS damage is awesome. I love having options in battles, while the main role is getting behind the mob and ripping out his spine, we can tank...if we have to and have a healer ...well we can! We can be very good pullers, especially with our de-agro abilities we can drop our pulls off on the tank very easily. We can and should scout areas to know the lay of the land, best camping spots, and best mobs. We are the leaders when it comes to finding specific mobs, opening traps, grabing the wanted pull and then making it cry for it's momma!!!!

I've played just about every type of character and I still always come back to my favorite, my Ranger!!!

I find the Rangers that people complain about are the ones who don't understand the Ranger's role and duties in combat and life. Ok, so Rangers don't have the best tank abilities, but they can normally bend their will to anything, given proper understanding of their role and charcter. Their sneak abilities give any group an advantage when actively scouting for nameds and don't want to be seen by surrounding mobs. They can de-aggro with ease, for ability as a tank, and even learn some decent healing spells (i've seen it done). Most Rangers i've come across have been excellent in the group, but these are people who know what their character and abilities can do. Its the people who run around everywhere, pulling anything and everything in sight and generally being juvanile and stupid that give the Ranger the bad rep.

Just remember, every class has it's idiots...but there's plenty of decent players out there. Don't judge...unless you know your playing and your character is the best it can be. Often it isn't.

Kairra

20 Swashbuckler

Huh? dude.......this stuff is all over this forum. Everywhere from the positive ranger thread to adventuring tips etc. In your other post you have not even decided to be a ranger yet?

If you want to give your post some credibility, play Ranger for a while, then come back and give your opinions.......If you need help with anything just ask. There are enough positive people in here that will help you from everything from what to eat, where to buy it, which bow to use, how to solo, how to kite, etc etc etc.....

Flamers Beware!!!! You will get burned!!!! (sorry, but that looks like a troll)

You should probably have more than 12 posts before you try to rally all the troops in here. We have been discussing ranger issues for a long time - many posters in here since day 1.

Ok. Now I guess I am going to get burned....I cant say I wasn't warned.

Kwentavius

Oh yeah, another reason Ranger/Scout is good is that when you die, getting your shard back is easier

This is actually an Anti-Ranger post. Anyone that has been around EQ for awhile knows that SoE considers class balance to be "no reason other than personal preference to play one class over another." If everyone wanted to be a ranger, then the ranger would obviously be over-balanced and require some kind of nerfing.

There are a lot of fun race/class combos to play in this game. Ranger is one of those fun selections. Why not just let people play what they want the way they want?

If you spend a bit of time in the forums, you'll learn who the worthwhile contributors are. They're generally helpful, positive people, and often post useful information or informed advice. You will also learn who the losers are. They are generally b!tchy, negative people who waste their bandwidth and time laboring under the delusion that their opinion is somehow important. After a while, you learn to avoid reading the posts by the poor saps who are so miserable they have to attack anyone around them, and to focus on the discussions that are worth the time it takes to read them. Good luck, and welcome to Ranger-land.

I wasn't flaming you angel - just trying to let you know that there are a lot of issues that have been discussed here for a long time. Having a post that helps new rangers is a good thing - but there are plenty of those already. Although linking to Alakazams for a few tips can be helpful, there are better resources for new guys.

Like Jay said - there are negative people in here with their own agendas, and there are people in here that will give you genuine help. All that you need to do is ask.

I do admire your enthusiasm.

Kwentavius

Guk

Not flaming, but I agree with another poster. YOu have what? 3 weeks playing your character? If you played every minute of the next 4 weeks, you would catch up to the amount of playing experience I have with mine.

I stopped leveling my Ranger about 2 weeks ago, deliberately so I don't level into a borked class at level 40+. I have finally decided that playing a toon (Mystic 20 levels in 4 days).

While you may have played a Ranger in EQ1 and FFXI, that experience has little to do with the character in EQ2. I have 68 levels of EQ1 Rangering under my belt, and can tell you there are minute similarities if any at all. So do us all a favor, hop down from the soap box, login and learn, before trying to teach.

Just FYI, I wasn't referring to any one specific person. There are more than a few of them. I certainly didn't direct my remarks at Nomar (obviously, since he didn't reply until after my post), he's usually quite helpful and IMO one of the cooler members of our little community. I was a bit surprised and a little disappointed to see such venom from him, but everyone has bad days or lets little things irritate them that don't really matter. That said, you can understand how someone might get irate if they feel that they're being told how to do their job by someone who they perceive as a newcomer. I know your intent was a good one, though, and I hope you won't lose your enthusiasm for the class just b/c of some frivolous negativity. One essential quality in any EQ2 ranger is persistence in the face of adversity.

What it was meant to imply was that if you like the class thats great Cruel. But, please do not preach to the choir in here when you have less then a days play time under your belt. If you have questions concerns, even suggestions to improve the class they always get greeted with optimism in here.

Its like anything else. I'm a web designer by day, and would react the same way if someone fresh out of college or an IT training school start ripping my HTML apart. Alot of us here have invested many hours, eclipsing the 1 month of actual playtime on our rangers. I am ecstatic you like the class. It is alot of fun, I would be playing mine daily if it weren't for the fact that at level 35 I'm on the bubble for hitting broken content for the Ranger Class. As a Guild leader I looked at my roster and noticed we were severly lacking in quality 30+ healing, so i decided that time away from the Ranger might serve myself and the guild some good, and give sony some time to fix the 40+ content.

A suggestion Cruel, there is a post at the top of the page sticky'd. Rangering and adventuring tips. Read it. Its thourough comprehensive and well written. Thus the reason it was sticky'd. Put to use some of the basics that are talked about in there, and get playing. Your enthusiasm needs to be match with Game experience befote people wil take advise/direction from you in here. Too many skeptics.

So if I burned yah a little with the /sarcasm flame. I apologize. But I donot apologize for the content. It was meant to stress an important point.

Good Luck to you.
