View Full Version : Stealthy Shooting
<DIV>Since rangers are supposed to be all about the outdoors i.e. effective use of position and cover I've been wondering why the first distant shot from stealth instantly betrays the firers position. It's as if the firer suddenly has a big flashing sign on his head that says "I'm here", while real life experience shows that someone shooting from cover is almost never spotted on the first attempt. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I suggest that the target should have to test to break stealth and that after each successive stealthed shot it should become progressively easier for the target to spot the firer. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Being in a group and attempting this could be handled by increasing the targets probability of breaking stealth based on the number in the group and their proximity to the firer. </DIV>

Actually sounds more like good role playing to me..... of course it would be a great advantage to then still be able to use backshot and others in succession!

<DIV>Awesome insight, never crossed my mind but makes perfect sense. This would reallly be a unique skill for a Ranger and add some more depth to the class. Great idea! PLEASE SOE PLEASE?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ajacks</DIV> <DIV>DE Ranger AB</DIV>
<P><FONT size=2>I really am becoming cynical. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Kind of a neat idea, but IMO this would never see the light of day. It's an age-old convention in many games that any hostile action breaks invisibility...this change would be a pretty huge break from that convention. I think it would put us in the unique position of being able to damage mobs without the mob even attempting to close distance, let alone being able to damage you; that's a pretty huge balance issue. Right now, the Hidden Shot line (to my knowledge) works just like every other stealth attack (that I'm aware of), in that the stealth is a prerequisite for the attack, but the attack breaks the stealth. I see your point, but you gotta recognize that if they give us something like this, they will take away something else. Key words with these kind of enhancements are "feasibility" and "balance." </FONT></P>

<P>Slight discrepancy here. Shooting from cover is not the same as shooting from little to no concealment. Remember, in this game you can be standing right beside your target in plain view but concealed. Even from range you can still be wide out in the open.</P> <P>I wonder how much computing power would be needed to figure out if you still had enough concealment to remain concealed? Well, basic line of sight I guess.</P> <P>heheh :smileyvery-happy: shoot from behind a moving herd of elephants</P>

Another option would be to have a short timer similar to the one from the Back Stab* (Can't remember the actual art name) that puts you into stealth mode and only has a few seconds to expire before stealth is actually broken..... Just a thought. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
