<DIV>Every once in a while, we're not just predators from Qeynos; sometimes we actually get to be rangers. Here's a modest story.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yesterday I joined some of my high-level guildmates for a bunch of quest killings. I was uneasy about whether I'd be able to actually hit the mobs they were fighting, since they were all mid-40's and I was a lowly 32.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I started out with normal close-up tactics, and indeed was having great difficulty hitting the mobs. I guess I was taking a lot of damage from the enemies' area-effect attacks - more than the healer could afford to deal with - because shortly after the battle had started the priest told me, "Shader, back out."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I took a few steps back, buffed up with Steady Aim, and started throwing all of my at-range attacks into the battle. My self-buffs allowed me to actually hit these mobs well with archery, even when I couldn't with melee. And between my bow-arts and my Touch of the Rotbone (a rare alchemist poison), I actually contributed meaningful DPS to the group. (I was really surprised my poison wasn't resisted much.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyone else have any "true ranger" moments they'd like to share?</DIV>

<DIV>Not a Ranger moment but heroic....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Last night some guildes wanted to take out "The Watcher" in the Condemned Catacombs, I was high lvl at 39, we had a 37 lvl mage, and the rest were 33-34 (2 healers, 1 Paladin and another mage). Well I used evade etc...and he started in on me anyway and I ended up being MT for the 15 min battle, I was OOP many a time but the PGT kept me going......it was awesome. Now at 40 (that end quest made me ding) I now have my imbued cedar LB, Fulg BP and leggings as well as a Bloodstone Ring of Agility....lookin good feelin' good! </DIV>

<DIV>My best "true" Ranger moment was one of the times I actually took aggro from not using Evade and the Shadow line of spells...few minutes later someone in group yells <FONT color=#ff0000>Ranjah Down, Ranjah Down!</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>using evac when the wizard is just about to curl up his toes and die from the aggro he got then having to explain to the group that the 8 adds and being a player down in the group from the wizard's demise would probably not be the best tactic going...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>then getting a tell from the wizard saying thanks for saving his butt again :smileyhappy:</DIV>

Since I hit lvl 29 I have been doing a LOT more damage and this has generated a lot of very cool ranger style moments.1. Playing pass the orc with a warlock in Zek. Great fun and very amusing.By far the best though was when I was fighting Giants in TS. Things went pear shaped and group panicked and start to split with the giants going for the healer.I whistled for my trusty steed 'Swifty' and chased after the Giants just as they were about to kill the priest, one back shot and I had aggro and was flying down the gorge with a group of giants chasing me. The priest survived as did the rest of the group.

<DIV>I guess it would have to be recently in Zek, I was grouping with a 46 monk and we were killing the sullon lumberjacks. I am 43 at the moment so the 39's were green. I ended up getting 4 of the ^^ 39's on me while the monk was fighting 4 sullon elites. Well I pop Adroit and tanked them for a little bit but my health was going down fairly fast and the monk was getting really worried that I would die. When my health bar went red I took off running in a wide circle using my bow skills to kill the mobs, you can use 3 skills while running, crippling shot, flaming arrow and triple shot. And if you have jboots and pathfinding up you can still kite the mobs. The monk just started laughing, he thought I was running away, he didn't know a ranger can still kite.</DIV>
