<DIV>Heya Ya'll, I've just been wondering. When I started my ranger, I remember hearing/reading that they have the best movement in-game. I was so excited. But now as I've played, I'm noticing the journeyman boots and horses passing me up and I'm just barely out running other characters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One of the best "RP" item to rangers is their ability to travel (ie range-the-land). Is there something I'm missing, some update to pathfinding? I have no problems with losing the ability while in combat, but I really expected our class to be the class that really traveled the lands. Anyone have any opinions?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Beowolfe, Woodelf Ranger</DIV> <DIV>Unrest server.</DIV>

not missing anything, pathfinding is just run-of-the-mill in terms of speed increase.

<DIV>Since I'm home now, I looked it up. Page 270 of the "Prima Official Game Guide - Everquest II" Reason #2 for "Why a Ranger?"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and I quote:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"2. Rangers have the fastest movement speed in the game. With buffs that increase speed past that of the other Scout professions, you'll be flying across Antonica in no time".</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This was the "OFFICIAL" game guide, so I actually thought it might have some validity.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"....the fastest movement speed in the game...." kind of had me believing that we would be the fastest in the game. Kind of silly of me, huh?</DIV><p>Message Edited by CyahLaytar on <span class=date_text>03-31-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:54 PM</span>

Except they told us that the Prima guide was out of date before it was even released. Its also worth noting that we rangers do get self-only buffs that increase our run speed and I'm pretty sure it stacks with pathfinding, so even tho we can't buff a group with it, we may very well be pretty close to one of the fastest in the game.

<P>i am pretty sure that Rangers are the fastest characters in the game. i.e. when everything goes wrong in a battle i am the first who begins to run to the zone.</P> <P>Viejo</P> <P>Ranger 37 (Crushbone)</P>

<DIV>I'm pretty sure that Rangers have the fastest un-buffed movement speed in the game. I want to say I read 10% somewhere. But as far as buffs go...pathfinding is nowhere near the fastest movement buff. Here's to hoping it gets better at higher levels (currently level 33).</DIV>

Pathfinding by itself is a modest buff. But later on your agility buff adds another 5% to your speed. I almost keep up with people using SoW totems. As for horses, that depends on the horse. The best horse is a 40% speed buff which is like full time sprinting. You won't be keeping up with those. <div></div>

I don't worry to much about my speed, as long as i'm faster than the other people in my group <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

The "official" description of our class stated we had the fastes movement "IN GAME", not self buffed, not with quest items, not except for horses...but IN Game. <DIV>Jboots dont stack with pathfinding but i think omone mentioned b4 SOW totem, Pathfinding stack for 40% speed then throw in Veil for 45 % run speed increase and your faster than sprint and horses.. </DIV>

<P>Actually, JBoots *do* stack, even though the description says they don't. When running with heritage JBoots, Pathfinding, SoW totem, and our 5% movement speed buff, I have a +50 movement speed boost. At that speed, there's not a mob in the game that can keep up, and I think ony the highest tier horse (the spirit horse) and dirges can run with me. Problem is, we really don't get to use this combination until late in the game...through my teens and 20's I was actually pretty darn slow.</P> <P> </P> <DIV>Dohmyr Farseeker</DIV> <DIV>Level 46 Human Ranger from Blackburrow</DIV> <DIV>Leader Nihility Guild of Qeynos</DIV>

<DIV>i didnt want to say they stacked in case a dev was looking and thought oh *$%#&! we better fix that issue :smileysad:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
<FONT size=2>I thought the Forester's Insight +5% boost was a myth. I certainly don't see any speed increase when I have it on...anyone done any hard testing here?</FONT>

That 5% movement speed buff from Veil of the Forest or Forester's Insight does NOT stack with Pathfinding or J Boots. The 5% stacks with Sprint and Sprint only. Sprint = 40% + 5% from either spell totalling 45% Sprint speed. You can see this when you bring up your Character's Info box which tells you where the numbers actually go. When you use Sprint, that goes into the "offensivespeed" catagory. That 5% also goes into this section. J Boots, Pathfinding (which does stack but the buff description is totally 100% wrong), Dirge's spell, SoW totem, goes into the field called "speed". Depending on which field has the greater amount of points determines how fast you run. Mounts have their own field too called "mountspeed". So lets say if there were a superior mount that could go 80% "mountspeed", this would be the dominate speed for your player and would not stack with "speed" or "offensivespeed". If you were to stop using this pretend mount and still had Pathfinding and J Boots on which combined = 26% player movement speed, your player would reduce from that 80% rate of speed down to the current 26%. Hope this clears the issue of what some of the buffs actually do. <div></div>

What that means is that the 5% from Veil does not affect your movement speed out of combat, but once you are in-combat, everything that affects 'speed' (pathfinding, sow totems, jboots) or 'mountspeed' is no longer in effect, but Veil is. So Rangers are the fastest moving class in-combat. <div></div>
