View Full Version : Did I miss something or did someone at SOE miss something?

The four moved slowly and carefully, clinging to the shadows where the ranger's skills could best keep them hidden. Sometimes the passageways would open into larger rooms, meeting places where the vampires conducted strange rituals. Taken directly from page 3 of the Adventurpack story.....since when could we keep the entire group stealthed? Isn't that swashbucklers that have group highspeed stealth?

No offense but you can't dismiss this with a statment like "Its lore, fiction, story telling, dont take it seriously." We're talking about the people who made the game not staying true to the fiction they created, that's just plain lazy or it means there's something out there we don't know (hopefully the latter). I noticed this too and thought what the ? If it's a goof up that's just plain ridiculous and someone needs to get it together over there in SOE land.

Ajacks

Just further evidence that the people in controll have not played so much as one minute of game-time.

technically it doesn't say that the ranger is keeping his group in sneak/invis mode or otherwise undetecable forms. It just says "where the ranger's skills could best keep them hidden" that could mean they found a corner out of agro range. "The ranger's skills" could refer to the actual players skill or knowledge of pathing routes and where they could stand without drawing attention. That statement is vague enough that it can only be left up to interpretation which invalidates your whole arguement.

This is a plausible explanation, let's hope that's it

I found this odd as well, "How is a ranger's skill keeping the four hidden?" I would love to see us get a group camo skill, it would help a lot for our utility and seem to fit with the feel of a ranger. If I can find great ways to hide and sneak past enemies, I should have some skills at helping others do the same, at least to some extent. Just my opinion.

However the message was intended, it seems to indicate to others who might read this as that Rangers have a group invis skill, which is confusing.

Beowolfe

Unrest

Woodelf Ranger

It is my in-game experience that players expect scouts in general and rangers in particular to be able to group sneak. The line in the Lore simply confirms this in most peoples minds. We know it's not the case but...

Nice catch

This LEAPED off the page at me too, and I immediately pointed it out to a friend with a sardonic "ha ha" at our own expense. IMO, the only thing it indicates is that SOE's writers are about as sloppy as you'd expect them to be. I wouldn't look to a vague piece of bland lore fiction for any indicators about upcoming skills or changes to the game.

Sadly, I do feel that this muddies the waters even further by implying that we do have a group sneak, which people continue to expect from us. Recent in-game conversation went a little like this:

"So you can't invis us?"

"No, sorry."

"But you're a ranger!"

"Yeah, I know."

"And we're outside!!"

"Yep, I know."

"I thought scouts got a group sneak?"

"Most do, but not rangers."

"And you don't get any special abilities for being outdoors?"

"Nope."

"Wow...that kinda sucks. I thought you guys were supposed to be master stalkers and proficient outdoorsmen!"

"Yeah...we thought that too."

Message Edited by Jay42 on 03-23-2005 02:55 PM
