<DIV>*sigh*</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Let me start of by posting a bug I ran into. [then I will rant about the quality of in game support]</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With my level 19 predator I completed the ranger sub class quest.  I spoke with Arrell Silvertongue.  I did part 1 and snuck into BB and walked through the brewery.  I ran back and spoke with Arrell again.  I ran off the South Qeynos, snuck down stares, snuck passed the gnolls. Took out both the negotiators and then snuck back out [actuially last bit was more of a run like hell LOL.  I forgot the message I got when I killed the second negotiator but it looked like the normal you get when you complete one of these sub class quests.  The quest was gone from my book.  So all I needed to do was level to 20.  I camped to another character [its an alt that I only play with friends about twice a week].  I log on to get ready to join up with my friends and to my surprise the quest showing in the top right hand box is the one to call to Arrell again.  When I look at it its right back to the beginning again.  As if I've never spoken with him.  hmm ... I decide to go and speak with him again, but as expected he now refuses to talk to me .. since I've done the quest already.  I report the problem on a ticket since I'm worried I may have a stuck/damaged quest, but also explain I'm leveling to 20 that night and suspect the problem will go away.  That night I level to 20 and become a ranger anyway and the quest disappears.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Clearly the quest should not have been telling me to go talk to Arrell since we had nothing more to discuss LOL. Or if it was correct then Arrell should hjave spoken to me, if only to say something.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>OK, no biggy.  Hopefully its a repeatable problem and can be easily fixed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Guess what reply I got from the nice num-nut that took the ticket?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm paraphrasing, since it looked like a lot of standard text and was a lot longer than my parapharsed version</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"The quest is working as designed.  I'm sorry we are not allowed to help players solve quests, we are only allowed to work with players to fix problems.  I suggest that you go to the forums and ask from help from other players who might be willing to help you through the quest."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>hmmmm.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This leads me to conclude that the person either A) can't read, B) has no idea how to play the game, or C) is a complete num-nutt who should not be a GM in the first place, or D) has been instructed to not read the messages and just guess which piece of standard text might sound good when posted into the reply space.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is not the first time this has happened to me.  It has happened every time I have posted something as a ticket with two exceptions, but both were in the beta.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm beginning to think that one of the largest issues is we have a communications problem.  We have smart developers, we have some smart players ... and in the middle we have some num-nut GMs who are ensuring that information does not feed back to the devs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Here is my suggestion ... it used in every customer professional service function in the world.  Its called feedback.  On every ticket the player should be able to answer a quick survery about their experience with the person that answered the ticket.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) Do you think the GM understood your problem?</DIV> <DIV>2) Rate the quality of the GM reply on a scale of 1 to 5 [1 bad 5 exceptional, 3 average]</DIV> <DIV>3) Did the answer address your problem.</DIV> <DIV>4) Were you told that the game is working as designed</DIV> <DIV>5) Do you still think you have encountered a bug</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now .. with this info you can look at the results by GM.  Statistically all GMs shoudl get the same spread.  But they won't because some are better than others.  In the words of the British game show --- "You are the Weakest Link .. Goodbye" LOL</DIV>

<DIV> <P>If the quest completed and you became a Ranger, then you did not have a problem with the quest progression, just an oddity with the quest log.  And while that is certainly confusing and annoying, <EM>it did not stop you from achieving your goal in any way</EM>.  Second, by your own admission, you told them that you did not really expect it to stop you from getting to Ranger.  But even if those things were not the case, can you imagine how many requests they must get claiming a quest is stuck when, in reality, someone did not bother reading the quest log, did not pay attention to what an NPC said, or did not complete some other trigger for the quest to advance?  If they responded to every such request with anything other than the form-letter you received, they would end up being the personal guides for a significant portion of the player base who were too lazy to just figure it out on their own, even when nothing was wrong.  So they told you to do something very reasonable.  Ask other players about it on the forums.  Had you done so, assuming you were not the only one to whom this had ever happened, the likely response would have been, "Yeah.  I had that happen to me.  But I made [insert subclass name here] as soon as I dinged 20, so it is no big deal.   Just /bug it and keep going."</P> <P>So I really do not see what you expected here.  You told them you did not expect it to interfere, it, in fact, did not interfere, and they gave you a way to find out more information.  (People here are very quick to let you know about this kind of thing.)  Did you really expect a GM to, say, stop helping a player who had lost all the contents of his inventory when his client crashed, to drop everything and come talk to you only to find out that, "Oh, that?  Yeah I dinged 20 and got Ranger and the quest went away."  What were they supposed to do at that point?</P> <P>In reality, what should have happened here is as soon as you dinged 20 and got Ranger, you should have deleted the request for help and reissued it as a /bug.</P> <P>That is not to say that there could not be better responses, but, really, I think you are blowing this way out of proportion.</P></DIV><p>Message Edited by Sotaudi on <span class=date_text>03-19-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:13 PM</span>

<P>The thing that bugs the heck out of me the most is once they respond, and they feel an adequate response is given, they close the ticket, so if any information was missed intranslation, you have to open a new ticket.  And guess what happens if you open multiple tickets regardin the same issue?  they threaten to ban your account.</P> <P>If you actually answer my concern or question, I will drop it.  But, if for what ever reason there is a missinterpertation, just don't arbitrarilly close tickets please.  Let me respond to make sure you are at least answering the right question.</P>

<P>I agree...there should be some sort feedback form or something.  Maybe it was "only" confusing but it also NOT how the quest was intended to run, So, yeah...that reply to your problem is caca and I bet a million copper that it isnt the first time that GM has given useless advice and replies to reports.  I think we need some sort of accountability with the GM's</P> <P> </P> <P>Good Suggestion</P> <P>Saihung</P>
