<DIV>Noticed last night that mortuary sludge (my poison of choice) seems to have 5 charges per vial rather than 2 and I think the price is the same...  Anyone else noticed this or have I totally lost it?</DIV>

I have an alchy that makes my poisons but what I have been wondering is, is there a market for selling them on the brokers? I have never seen any for sell that i can recall but if people would prefer to just buy the trader ones I see no point in making them since they are very time consuming for me. So, would you buy player made poisons even if all I can make atm is 50-100 skill poisons?

<DIV><FONT size=2>I'm actually disappointed to see this, even though it benefits two of the three scout archetypes. I've been talking with some alchemists about the situation regarding player-made poison, and we were all getting close to some actual viability here. (Previously they've been so expensive to make that they were way overpriced to buy, they see no market, we see ridiculously inflated price, and each side dismissed poisons altogether.) </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Shifting the emphasis to player-made poison over NPC poison (similer to the changes to food / drink in Live Update 3) would benefit both scouts and alchemists. Alchemists can make some nice poisons that have great damage, are more effective throughout levels (i.e. your 100-skill poison doesn't gray out at level 24, leaving you with no options until 30), and have seven charges compared to the previous <STRONG>two</STRONG> that NPCs had. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Now SOE for some wacko reason decides to increase NPC poison charges - it really makes no sense. They're so cheap and so available anyway, it was hardly necessary for anyone - but it's damaging to the alchemists. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Anyway, the discussion thread is over at <A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=a13&message.id=4366" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=a13&message.id=4366</A> if you feel like voicing your thoughts. I'm hoping SOE does something to address the poison situation, b/c we scouts could really use what the alchies have to offer; there's just these idiotic artificial barriers that prevent that from being a commonplace reality.</FONT></DIV>

I use nothing but player made poisons. If people want to buy NPC poisons, let them. They can enjoy their lesser charges and inability to proc on high level mobs in each tier. No skin off my butt.

<DIV>I use NPC poisons for the first 4 or 5 levels in a tier because of their cost effectiveness.  But after that, they are ineffective due to how often they get resisted.   So, I switch to player made poisons until I hit the next tier.  Player made poisons rarely get resisted.  Well, maybe "rarely" is the wrong word, but they get resisted a lot less than NPC poisons.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>I wish I could find any affordable player-made poisons. Alchemists on Butcherblock only offer poison for 80-100+ silver, and I just can't justify spending an entire gold piece on one consumable item that'll only last me for a few days. Unfortunate that some alchies just got into price-gouging early and don't seem to have gotten past that habit.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I hear you.  Kithicor has the same problem.  If you can find player made poisons, they are extremely over priced.  One of the problems was that jewelers made the vials too expensive for alch's to buy (10s for T2 vials as the lowest price for example).  Now that Alchemists can make their own vials, hopefully the price will eventually drop and we'll see more for sale.  I'm a jeweler and I put up a couple of hundred T2 vials for sale at 50c each when I hit T3.  One person bought all of them at one shot.  I watched to see if he was going to resell them at a higher price, but he didn't.  I also noticed that he didn't put up any poisons for sale, so I figured he was just taking care of the scouts in his guild.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What I did to get around the cost was talk my wife into making her main character an Alchemist, so between the two of us we are able to keep me in poisons.  Knowing that there is a market for poisons, it would be nice if she could make enough to put some up for sale, but since each charge only has 100 proc's, she barely is able to keep me supplied.  I tend to go through them fast.  But even if she were able to put some up for sale at a reasonable price, there are many unscrupulous people who watch for that, then buy and resell at higher prices.</DIV>

Players on Mistmoore charge 75s - 1g for a 7 charge T4 poison. Well worth it IMO.<p>Message Edited by Fennir on <span class=date_text>03-12-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:56 PM</span>

It costs an alchemist 47sp to make Rancorous Affliction, the T5 common very-small-DD + very-large-DoT. That assumes using roots valued at 6sp, and all other raw materials at 1sp. Those are the prices on AB if you watch the market and buy at all the right times. ("Yeah, but what if you harvest the materials yourself?" They still have a value of 6sp, since you could sell them for that much. Oportunity cost.)It costs an alchemist 41sp to make Hypnotic Shock, the T5 common small-DD + large-DoT, or any other T5 poison that doesn't use a rare vial.It costs an alchemist 12sp to make T4 common poisons, assuming the raws sell for 1sp each.Keep in mind that T5 poisons have a mastery level of 200. That means they're useful to scouts level 36-43 or so. Naturally, an alchemist will charge higher than his cost. It takes time to make each one - several combines. It takes storage space. It takes constant monitoring of the market to get the materials needed. It takes leaving your computer on all the time in merchant mode to sell - if you can actually work your schedule around the server restarts. And, of course, it takes considerable work and capital to actually become a T5 alchemist. Yeah, the system is messed up, and right now there's little motivation to use player-made poisons (except maybe in the late levels of each tier). But try to write it off as a case of lazy / greedy alchemists.

Of course a lot of people overcharge, and I obviously do make a profit, but not gouging. Currently selling tier two 4-5 hr food for 3-4 sp, and 3 hr drink for about 12sp. I'm just starting on tier 3 recipes, and I'm assuming you're in need of T3 if not 4 or 5. You're on my server, if you do happen to need T2 stuff, send a tell. Like I said before, you get the ranger discount. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></FONT></DIV>

<DIV>no one on my server makes poisen above lvl 20. id love to buy some if they did. i was eaven willing to pay the huge price before the patch just to have a piocen at lvl #5-#9, when i asked everyone laughed at me and said no! and untill the crafters catch up i need the 5 charges, otherwise my only option is to fill up a whole bag with poisen, and i allready have to cary a whole bag of arrows around. even now i have to run back to town all the time to resuply and offload loot (i have roughly 100 slots altogether in my bags, so i dont think buying larger ones is a solution)</DIV>

not sure if you noticed but player made unblemished are now 7 charges. I was making tier 3 earlier for my ranger to use. I think they just added it because they were 5 charge before the big patch.
