<DIV>Do any of you have a problem when assisting? It's been really frustrating for me trying to figure out why when I use /assist or target-through I get Ineligible Target for a number of my attacks. Seems to defeat the entire purpose of assisting if you cannot attack.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Am I nuts? Why does this happen? If someone could explain it to me, I would appreciate it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(and feel free to offer a solution- the best I have been able to do is to click on the tank to see what he is attacking, then click on what is being attacked before starting to fight)</DIV>

<DIV>When you say you don't have a problem with it, do you mean it doesn't happen or it doesn't bother you? You don't ever get ineligible target?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What method do you use? What exactly are you doing when you assist?</DIV>

i mean i dont get an error.i dont use /assist , but I just select the tank as my target and fire away.Only time i DO get not an eligble target is when the tank takes ages to switch to next target.

<DIV>What a nightmare having to use that method to determine what the tank is fighting...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have never experienced this problem. One thing that I have always done, is modify the assist hotkey to include the tanks name. I really hope doing this, fixes the problem you are having...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sometimes the key gets modified a lot thoughtout a play session, but I mainly did this to avoid the staying in combat after the mob has died pass though assist issue.</DIV>
<DIV>include the tanks name in the assist hotkey as mentioned above. Sometimes, an attack won't fire if the tank is targeted and you're fighting THROUGH them. Also, get over Assist. I haven't used assist in several levels. sometimes you need to offtank, sometimes you need to lay the hurt on thick if a non targetted mob attacks a healer, and in general as a ranger you should be in charge of the situation. You ought to know exactly what the tank is fighting and have a pretty good estimation of the next thing he'll be fighting, why he's fighting it, and what flavor of damage it deals/ is impervious to. If your head isn't in the game you'll lose it pretty quickly, that's just life.</DIV>

<DIV>First I never, ever just target the tank to get my target, I find that if he has to switch targets to peel a mob off a caster, by followin g the MT over to his new mob, all you are doing is taking alot of his aggro by attacking it, and thus making it take longer for him to get the mob off the healer.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What I do is is I have a macro set up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Right click you hot bar. Macros - Create new macro - </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>he command you want to use is </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>/assist xxx using tanks name - mash the heck out of it everytime a mob drops and you will get the tanks new target. it also helps if the tank switches targets before a mob dies to set aggro on the next mob, which is what my pally freind does. I stay on the original target burn it down, while he generates lots of hate on the next one. So when I switch over and start pounding it, I don't draw away from his aggro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>hope that helps some, no if we could just get tanks to start facing mobs better so i don't have to play "Ranger Ping Pong" to get behind mobs, we'd be golden.</DIV>

<DIV>I've only seen that problem when I have had to fight through someone by clicking on them. Say if the tank goes down and I'm not using a hotkey for SA. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As to actually fighting through someone it is a bad idea for the fact that the tank may need to switch targets to throw a single mob taunt on a mezzed target while turning off attack so as not to break the mezz, if you are fighting through him and don't know to turn auto off you just broke the mezz and the healer/mezzer is gonna get hurt/dead. Use /assist tankname then stay on the target until dead or switch or new target is called. </DIV><p>Message Edited by Velocidad on <span class=date_text>03-08-2005</span> <span class=time_text>06:17 AM</span>
