<DIV>I recently upgraded Back Shot to Adept III and when you examine it, the description says 250-4xx damage or something close to that. I have never done this much damage with Back Shot, it is usually 120-220.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Is the description just incorrect or am I not doing something right to get this much damage?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've noticed this with other CA descriptions as well, they say they do more damage than they really do.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Deolas</DIV> <DIV>27 Ranger - Najena</DIV>

It depends on the arrow you're using. Feyiron and Fulginate arrows will make an incredible difference.

<DIV>Thanks, I'll give those arrows a try. I use the Carbonite one from the Make Shift Arrows.</DIV>

<DIV>Another agreement from me. I couldn't afford feyiron arrows until I got Rip at 30, and even though Back Shot was one of my hardest hits, it still wouldn't do as much as it said it should. Then I got feyiron arrows (and Sniping Shot, the upgrade) and saw a marked improvement. The arrows help.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And another thing to take into account is whether or not the mob you're attacking has been debuffed a lot. If you're in a large group, it's more likely that you'll do bigger damage, as the others will be debuffing. If you're on your own or duoing (like I do with a pally friend) you don't have as many debuffs between you, so you may not do as big a hits.</DIV>

<DIV>I know the fulginate arrows are 3S and change in Elddar's but how much are the feyiron and where do we buy them? I'm actually doing very good dmg with the carbonite arrows at LVL 21 with a Long Bow. With BackShot Adept1, doing close to 250 a pop. Can't imagine the others would make that much of a difference for the price you pay. </DIV>

<DIV>At 21 you shouldnt be able to afford feyiron or better.  In fact, it would probably be a waste of money.  You get free carbonite arrows from Makeshift arrows, at 30 you get Rip and get free Feyiron arrows.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>heh heh..Dont get everyone in here started about how unfair the arrow thing is.  Hopefully the devs will fix it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwentavius</DIV>

<DIV>Other problem besides the arrow tier is that our summoned arrows are piercing dmg.  A lot of mobs are resistent to piercing dmg.   But the biggest difference in dmg, you'll se is defiently from using a higher tier arrow.</DIV>

<DIV>As my picture implies, my main character is a Pally, but I am really loving the Ranger because of the bow and arrow. At first I concentrated on the stealth attacks in close but as I get my ranged skill up - around 100 now - I am having a blast and doing considerable damage. I won't go looking for the feyiron or fulginate. At this level, i'm quite satisfied with the carbonite. Aside from the fact that I can make them, they're also cheap when I do buy them - 36C ea I think. Someone mentioned that the system as it stands is unfair...not sure what that means, but I'm satisfied. </DIV>

<DIV>At your lvl, carbonite works great.  Starting in the late 20s and really hits ya in the 30s is when carbonite arrows  just don't do good dmg anymore.  To the point, they will not do the dmg listed on the CAs.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Try useing some iron arrows sometimes and notice the dmg differnce between them are carbonite.  The dmg gap only gets greater as your advance through the tiers.</DIV>

Imo you will almost never do the damage listed on the CAs. I bought a handful of the Indium arrows (tier 5 I guess, same cost as fulginate) and decided to use Culling the Herd Adept1 on a few 5th level mobs in the Forest Ruins. At level 47, with Indium arrows, my max damage I hit was 810ish, when max possible is over 1000, twice I hit below minimum (500ish). and the other 2 was 700ish. Yes I know, only 5 arrows, but I was just curious, even if they gave me 1000damage every time I used that CA I would not use them, unless my group is willing to cover the cost.Like your melee skills, max CA damage is more difficult to get than the lottery.

<DIV>Keep in mind that several things go into the damage calculations.  As others said, you will do more damage with better quality arrows, especially arrows that are appropirate for your skill level (e.g., if carbonite rapiers are orange to you, you should be using carbonite arrows).  The same would hold true of your melee weapons.  You should be using weapons appropriate to your level.  In either case, be aware that even if you are using the appropriate weapon/ammo for your level, you will not likely see max damage from your CAs when fighting MoBs that are at or above your level.  This is because they are better able to mitigate the damage you can do (higher resists, etc.).   However, if you take that same weapon/ammo and use it against a MoB that is significantly lower than you are, you will approach or make your max damage.  Also, if your piercing weapons are not doing well against a specific MoB, switch to a slashing weapon.  Finally, while most arrows (including the summoned Makeshift arrows) are piercing damage, there are other types of arrows that can do different damage types.  Hunting Arrows, for instance, do slashing damage.  These may be more effective against MoBs with high piercing damage resists.</DIV>

<DIV>Your Range skill is much higher then his, your bow does more damage, your 4 levels higer so stats are prolly a little higher etc, etc........</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But let me say this, and I'm not trying to be a dink, I have sniping shopt adept one, and I'm using a bow that you are 4 levels away from being able to use (Stormfire), and i struggle to do 250-400 with makeshift Carbonite arrows, granted the mobs I'm hitting have much higher AC - his damage is in scale with every Ranger I have seen around his level.</DIV>
