Lol, come back and tell us how well that works once you're fighting mobs over 20th level. Killing mobs in Antonica/common lands is one thing TS / NEK is another. When you have Adept 1's in nearly every skill and you open up with backshot, wounding arrow, trickshot then open shot as you run backwards (whilst using poison) before you even engage in hand to hand and blue mobs can still hand it to you, then you'll see what people are talking about.

<DIV>Agree. If you are only using 2 opening bow attacks you are obviously low level. Things change after 25.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwent</DIV>

<blockquote><hr>Kthaara wrote:<DIV>Agree. If you are only using 2 opening bow attacks you are obviously low level. Things change after 25.</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kwent</DIV><hr></blockquote>Hmm... Should be interesting, I am almost 26 now and I open with three bow attacks. I think they are Back Shot, Wounding Arrow, and the last I forgot, but I think its called open shot.
<DIV>Well, I did not know I was starting a new thread -bad Jsaw- I was trying to respond to another thread. Anyway, When soloing I use Wounded Arrow then Open Shot. I have the choice to use Back Shot but<EM> use Wounded Arrow instead. Then I countinue to back peddle while using my basic bow attacks. Until one of the single ups drop or until half of the double ups health is gone. While back peddeling i will reuse Open Shot when the timer has cycled. </EM></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><EM>This tactic is arrow intense but none the less effective. </EM></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><EM>PS I am level 22. I cant get both Back</EM> Shot and Wounded Arrow off prior to the mob getting within striking distance.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As another side note, never use this tactic against a caster, as you will die horrible.</DIV>

For ranged pulling, I always start with Back Shot or Hidden Shot, followed by Wounding Arrow and then Open Shot. You can get all 3 off, but you need good timing, and you have to be really, really aware of your surroundings... there is nothing worse than pulling suprise aggro by walking into a mob. You can get Open Shot off if you hit it before the enemy gets to you, then run past them - as long as you are in range when you start it, and when it finishes, you are fine. All 3 together will send most non-heroics down to yellow health if they all hit and some poison kicks in. At 27, there is no way on earth this would work for a double arrow up, unless I was hunting greys in Antonica. Stuff in TS and NF will laugh at me if I tried that on against a heroic opponent.I'm not sure which "double up" enemies you are talking about here, but I've had my [FAAR-NERFED!] kicked plenty of times by green buggers since I've hit 25, it's just a fact of life for most classes. I guess we should get SOE to nerf your toon if you are too worried about being over powered?<p>Message Edited by adrian76 on <span class=date_text>02-23-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:30 PM</span>

<DIV>I am not saying that it is diffucult to get your ranged attacks off in a timely manner, in fact it is quite easy if you plan your pull. Getting all of your ranged attacks off after level 25 or so really doesn't matter, since you will get pwnd by a green ^^ every time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwentavius</DIV>

<DIV>lol @ Adrian-nerf my toon ;p. How funny, I am specifically talking about the crows near the steppes station. I have yet to try this with any mob in TS. Sounds like my tactic has a limited amount of time in which to use it. Which is no biggie as I was just trying to level up my Ranger so I could group with a few of my RL friends. I prefer to fight in groups anyways. I like hitting the mob from behind dealing huge damage w/ no agro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have never been able to utilize all three attacks solong. Seems likie I have to find a "sweet spot" fr all three to work.</DIV><p>Message Edited by jsaw on <span class=date_text>02-23-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:56 PM</span>

I'm a 36 Ranger with mostly Adept1 skills, at least all are App4.I use a sureshot longbow with ripped feyiron arrows. Almost all my gear is yellow, maybe 2 blue pieces and a couple oj's. Poisons are tier4 player-made.Open with sniper shot.Que crippling shot.begin backpeddling.Use triple shot.Use trick shot. With some luck, a green solo mob will be dead, a blue mob will be at 1/3rd health for easy meleeing. A green^^ mob may be at 80%.With the polished granite tomahawk, I can tank a green^^ five levels below me. A green^^ four levels below me will annhialate me. A blue^^ mob may kill me before I can hit escape.

<DIV>Alright guys... here we go. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I feel that alot rangers are not properly playing thier rangers. I cant speak for 40+ rangers, but then again, 40+ EQ2 is a new ballgame due to the fact that the devs made 40+ mobs harder. So I'm talking purely on a sub 40 level.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When i was leveling, I remeber soloing ^^ greens and blues using a technique called KITING. Kiting is key for a ranger. We have the abilty to buff our speed, slow our enemies and use a ranged weapon. So take advatange of our skills. A great place to learn how to kite for lower level rangers is right outside of the gates that lead into RoV. There are a series of walls that form a quasi square which you can run around, and keep your bearings (plus providing a safe escape route via RoV gate if you are in trouble).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Start by buffing yourself, ranged and agi skills, and a fresh pathfinding. MAKE SURE YOU ARE STACKING POISONS! Then open up using your high damage arrow skills. Once the mob gets close, use Impede or whatever slowing speical you got and kite the mob, shooting arrows and using bow specials whenevr you can (i believe you can use open shot, and the equivalent of fire shot when you are on the move). Also, shooting arrows should be constantly happening. An Adpet version of makeshift arrows and rip provide for plenty of arrows if you use it whenever possible.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The reason why I suggest soloing ^^ mobs around RoV is because you can get the mob stuck on walls and create some more distance between yourself and the mob. Furthermore, your posions tick for some nice damage, so stacking the posions only benefits you further. Once you ge the hang of kiting, you can prcatice elsewhere, such as EL. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Finally, know your surroundings. I generally solo ^^ mobs where little aggro exists. It makes no sense to kite and run if one is running into a ton of aggro since you can only slow one mob at a time. In EL, there is one side of a hill where you can kite ^^ briarpaws with little aggro mobs around.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is a boring, timetaking process that burns through arrows, but the xp is nice. I prefer grouping, but when one can't find a group, I have found that this is a good way to gain some xp on the side.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For a final note. I often feel the puke rise in my throat when I see rangers fighting chest up against a mob in group encounters. FYI, shrouded strike and stalk will not allow you to follow up with crippling blade or raven embers (or whatever the lvl 20 specials were) because the enemy will detect you, and your invisiblity will wear off. PLEASE BACK OFF THE MOB. There is a sweet spot in the rear of the mob where one can use bow specials and melee specials. Try find it. If your not successful, go back and forth against the mob. Every ranger has the ability to match an assasin damage wise, just takes a little practice and know-how.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We are not a class that can stand behind a mob and simply mash buttons, we need positon.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Osofly Ofosho 39 ranger</DIV> <DIV>Osocrunk Ofosho 34 bruiser</DIV> <DIV>Osofresh Ofosho 34 guardian</DIV> <DIV>Osofunk Ofosho 16 sorcerer (pathetic this toon is so low)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Highkeep server (where there are simply NO SPORTS FANS what so ever)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Osofresh - </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Posions do not stack. Parse it out. There are numerous threads that talk about it. If you are doing something different, please share!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Although you can kite, it is VERY time consuming and in the time that it takes to kite a tough mob correctly, you can easily kill several lower level mobs. In addition, if something goes wrong (and it usually does) you will end up doing shard recovery or mashing the Evac.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Your sig indicates that you are level 39 - I am thinking that you were in your 20's a couple of patches ago. Things are harder now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kiting will work if done correctly, but to me it is a pain in the b u t t and a waste of time and arrows. Or, maybe I need to work on it some more. I have never had good luck doing it tho and I do not see a lot of Rangers practicing it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If it works for you - then keep at it. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwentavius</DIV>

<DIV>I would like to chime in with my 2c:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would like to know why you guys keep saying that we can not solo past commenlands or antonica. I just started to make my ranger (I hesitated so long because all of my other characters are freeport based) I got him to 16 and was tickled pink because he is great for soloing and small groups which is how I enjoy playing. (My creedo is it is not what you kill but how fast you can kill it and repeat). I am a huge fans of ranged weapons and was disapointed in my level 30 troubadors limited skill with it (I get one special ranged attack <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now I have no problem soloing green^^ mobs and niether do any of my friends that have scouts as long as you pay attention and do not rush into battle. Always ensure that they are 4 levels below you and be ready to run if they are only 3 (you got a 70/30 chance fighting these, I win more then i lose) The thing I do have problems with are groups. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am hoping that there is a way to solo because i love it so much and i think with planing it is posible. I think there are stratagies out there that will allow us a better chance then any other profession to do so. Mages, Fighters, and priests all have major flaws when it comes to soloing ^^ mobs. Fighters cant kill the mob fast enough, mages are dependant on spells not being resisted or broken, and priest all though can heal themselves can not cause enough damage to hurt a fly much less a ^^ mob. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So take a step back think of ALL your skills and how trhey play a part when you fight. Soloing and grouping use two different sets of tactics.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thasca 16 cleric / 27 Carpenter</DIV> <DIV>Varunaa 22 Inquisitor / 22 Jeweler</DIV> <DIV>Amana 20 Necromancer / 23 Weaponsmith</DIV> <DIV>Kovok 30 Troubador / 24 Provisoner</DIV> <DIV>Ashus 11 predator / 25 Woodworker</DIV> <DIV>Thorgruson 16 Fighter / 20 Alchemist</DIV> <DIV>Naocia 16 Predator / undecided</DIV>
