View Full Version : Effective use of Escape ability?
<DIV><FONT size=2>I'm still L25 and have used Escape a few times so far. One time it actually worked how I expected it to, meaning it teleported the living members of my party out of danger to a zone-in or revive point. The other four or five times I've used it, I have left party members behind. Nowhere in the spell description does it say anything about the other characters having to be within a certain radius of the ranger, but it seems that there <STRONG>is</STRONG> a radius of effectiveness, whether it's mentioned or not. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>So I'm looking for tips or advice from high-level rangers about the best ways to use Escape. I've already set up a text macro to announce when I'm about to do it and holler for everyone to gather around me, and I try to make it clear in my parties that if you do not do this, you WILL get left behind and you will likely die. I still end up evacuating like 2-3 people and leaving 1-2 behind to die. It's better than a full-party wipe, but I'd like to see some more consistency here. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Also, does anyone know the benefits to upgrading Escape?</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Thanks!</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I have escape App4 and I have never missed anyone. I believe that there is a radius for the evac and the higher skill you are the larger the radius. No proof though that I have seen. As far as tactics when you have to use it I just let them know to get close. The app4 version sells for less than a gold so I would just keep checking the local broker. Hope that helps a little</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lind</DIV>

<DIV>I have escape at app i cause I thought all upgrading it did was make it cost more mana. When I first got it I could teleport anyone in my group from anywhere in the zone. The there was a big patch and I couldn't and it got limited alot. My re-set time is 900 seconds I believe which is about 15 mins and it used to be double that until about a week after the patch that made it a shorter range. Aall I can say is that something is not right.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>P.S. Level 33 Ranger</DIV>
Escape is a great, all purpose, omg, we f'ed up skill... Such as over pulls with group mobs etc... Be concious of what your party can handle is the best thing to know, if you pull two group mobs, and you think your party can handle it, don't escape, but don't hesitate if you think the party is going to have a power shortage, etc. Also, if your MT dies, try and wait for a battle rez, then hit the escape, it saves alot of time and heartache from having to take your tank back down there to get there corpses, etc. Also, make sure your group is all near you when you escape, a macro telling the party to gather for escape is very handy. You'll get alot of thanks, and omg, I love you, thanks! When you know how to use it correctly, etc, don't jump the gun, just learn your parties strengths, weaknesses, and basically what they can handle, and keep escape handy, if you dont think they can handle it, the Tank dropping to halve health from one hit, is a good sigh that you might be over your head.. The main thing I have to say about escape is that you will learn what to do from experience, and thats the best way to learn, me thinks.Escape is also a great way to get around the zone too, heh, or your exploring, and some mob saw through your camo, etc.
<DIV><FONT size=2>Thanks for the info and tips. Apparently upgrading does reduce the re-use timer as the default at App1 is 900 seconds (15 minutes). Frankly, I shouldn't <STRONG>need</STRONG> it any more often than 15 minutes! If I do, something's very wrong with my party. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>I'd rather see the mysterious radius increased than have the reuse timer reduced. I haven't re-examined this skill since yesterday's big patch (many skill and item descriptions are more explicit now), so maybe there are more details about ROE and overall use there.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>

<DIV>Aye, another good thing to do is to ask the group leader if it's time to evac? I know this dosen't sound like you have time, but it is courteus of you to ask. I usually say " Do we need an evac?" and as soon as I get a yes, we gone. Also it helps when you are mass running quests, ie in a group all together running quests. Very very important to know where you respawn if you use the escape, This has saved myself, and my guild/group members tons of time from running back and forth. Need to get to the docks in TS for boat ride quest? escape the group to the dock and turn in that step. Use the tools wisely.</DIV>

<DIV>Jewelers make them. I made mine myself and it has a 20 meter radius. I was thinking about upgrading it to Adept 3. Does anyone know if that version has a bigger radius?</DIV> <P>Message Edited by Gareorn on <SPAN class=date_text>02-21-2005</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>11:12 AM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Gareorn on <span class=date_text>02-21-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:13 AM</span>

<DIV>For myself and the group I usually hunt with, I escape when the healer goes red. If the main tank cannot keep agro, or if the main tank dies and the healer does a battle rez, he will get allot of agro. It is harder to go back and get a healer than a tank in my opinion. With pickup groups its different. I usually do whats best for me in a pickup group, and I don't mean to sound like an [FAAR-NERFED!], but in pickup groups, most everyone is looking out for themselves rather than the party.</DIV>

<DIV>One thing to remember is that if you die while casting it, when you get revived the casting will continue. I was in Varsoon, and we we're recovering from a wipe, I had been attempting to tank one mob and escape kept getting interupted, I died, when the Healer came to rezz me, I was first for whatever reason, me and him we're Succor'd to zone in and unable to get back to group, causing everyone to revice and we had to fight our way back. So just keep that in mind.</DIV>

<DIV>I've got Adept I Escape, and I still occasionally miss people. Last time was when a mob aggroed on a wizzy and instead of standing still like I asked him to, he ran a mile and I wasn't able to grab him...</DIV>
