<DIV>The way it seems, rangers have the ability to track mobs, theyhave speed buffs, they have ranged debuffs, and impede type movement speed slowing spells. They are able to get the aggro off (or at least down), and best of all rangers have trickshot. </DIV> <DIV>If that is the intent of trickshot, like im assuming, it's made for tagging. It helps the tank build great aggro also.  (for  those that downt know, trickshot is a bow attack that enrages the mob so much that the next person to hit iot generates extra hate with the mob).</DIV> <DIV>Do anybody else agree that rangersshould pull for the grp? Is it more trouble than it's worth to do so? Is there an advantage to the tank doing it? What are your thoughts on this??</DIV>

<DIV>I'd say we are great at pulling in unknown areas - with less usefulness the more the area becomes predictable and visibility is good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Our guild's first run through Drafling I pulled the whole place, using sneak to find out paths of wanderer, miracle shot and shadow to pull. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Second time through the pally pulled the place. We knew the general layout, the wanderers weren't clumped this time and aggro was made much simpler. Another factor is that he levelled twice since we first entered, while my agility based tanking was a little reduced. He was thus in a much better state to tank dual ^^ pulls than I was to tank a single pull if stuck on scenery.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We can pull wonderfully and add a great deal of safety to procedings - but in most cases our finesse is not really required.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I usually pull if the group is looking for specific mobs in tricky places like Varsoons, where being able to sneak past loads of aggro monsters and pull out just the one you want is very handy <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> If we're camping a spot in somewhere like the Steppes, killing anything that appears, it's usually simpler to let the tank do the pulling.

<DIV>I find that the biggest obsticle to Rangers pulling is the group healers.  They are scared to death we will die before the tank can pull off the aggro.  Even with trickshot things happen that lock the aggro into you.  A couple of points:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you are going to pull with Trickshot make sure you remove your poisons and bladefury.  Bladefury especially counts as a completely separate attack ( you notice you make a meelee swing even through you are 20m away).  If this happens it will spring the aggro trap and make the tanks job of removing that aggro from you a lot harder.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Since we are battling the two impressions that we can't take a hit, and that aggro is harder to remove than it is to set in the first place, it will take a Ranger a long time to convince the group that he is well suited to this roll.</DIV>

<DIV>Poisons won't trigger Trick Shot.  I've tested that one out a lot.  I do still think swipe does trigger Trick Shot, but I haven't really tested that one out all that much.  I group with a lot of chanters; so I usually have swipe turned off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I do a lot pulling when in guild groups.  They know me well enough to know that I can pull from long distances with out dieing.  In pick up groups its like what said above.  Healers and tanks think that we will die.  Even in dungeons, I don't have any problems pulling.  Its just mainly a misconception issue.  </DIV>

<DIV>I agree with what's been said here.  Trick Shot is an excellent pulling tool, particularly when you have a good tank or a steady group.  Even it the group is new to playing with a Ranger, as long as everyone knows that the tank needs to hit the mob after it starts coming in it works pretty well.  A good tank will throw a taunt on top of the trick shot aggro (or a group taunt if its a multiple pull) and everything should work out great.  Don't forget your evasive arts if the taunt doesn't shake the aggro.  Sometimes its easier to have the tank pull, partucularly in a group that lacks finesse,  but we make fine pullers IMO.</DIV>

I used to love pulling until the AGI nerf. Now we take rediculous damage to the point that the healer might not have time to heal you.

yeah I need a way to help protect myself more. I have the best armor for my level. Best Weapons. Best Jewelry. Last night in TS, was near griffons when the named one spawned out of no where. He ONE hit me, thats right ONE hit me. He took 1015 health, even though I only have 980 something. I thought was rediculous, even he killed everyone else pretty fastily, im the only character he ONE hit. Something was wrong there.

<DIV>When grouped, I never use trick shot. It makes me nervous that the next person to hit the mob might be a caster or group healer, then the tank will have a hell of a job to get aggro. Seems too much hassle to have to explain the details to the group of when to attack and whose to attack first, etc. Unless someone has some tips? I only use it when solo. </DIV>

<DIV>First off, I have Trick Arrow Adept 1.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Usually at 48+ I overagro about any 40-44 tank when normally "unloading" on a mob without that skill, thus I always checked if we would have a 45+ tank in Permafrost in the last weeks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Last night it wasn't possible to get a 45+ so we took a 43, whom I offered to pull with that skill. I clarified to the group that the tank has to be the first to inflict any damage to the mob when I pull, and no one, not even a 47 Monk could overagro him anymore. The tank himself stated that the Trick Arrow would help "a lot".</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After the 43 Shadowknight had to leave though we got a 44 Paladin into group who insisted to pull himself - resulting in all having agro but him, the 47 Monk and I shared the agro on the maintarget and the healer tanked all the adds, not because we wanted, but because it just happened with all of us "unloading" normally, we didn't go into burn-em-down mode nor held back.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the end, it all depends on if you have a good group and non-newbish other groupmembers, and you can give a good benefit to a group. This only applies though if the tank is on the brink of being too low for the group, a tank who is at the same level as the average of the group can do the job alone...</DIV>

<DIV>EQ2 should of been designed for scouts to pull. That would give players another reason to want a scout in their group. Yet it looks like it is not working out this way. As stated...it is more viable to have a fighter pull. He will already have the aggro and he can absorb the damage long enough for the healer to heal. Maybe in the future SOE will find a way to make scouts the pullers. A fighter's job should be to tank.</DIV>

<DIV>We are not meant to be pullers.  Maybe if your group needs a specific mob and it would be a difficult pull for a tank.  The 37m bow with trick shot is good for this, as long as everyone knows that the first person to hit it gets increased aggro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Most pick-up groups will scream if you try to pull.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kwent</DIV>

<DIV>Single Mobs = Yes</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Multiple Mobs = No</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>SIngle mobs are excelent pulls for the ranger. Ive often chain pulled for my group by breaking off from the encounter to start the next pull just before the previous mob died.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This doesnt work well on Multi mob groups however. Its dificult for the tank to aggro the entire ancounter vice just 1 mob and you usually take a beating or dump aggro on the healer.</DIV>
