I used a posion last night (yes I know I didn't start this thread) and I was wondering, whats the difference between the colors??

I'm figuring that all the ones that cost the same and con the same are the same lvl of poison but the colors have to mean something...

My b/f had the idea that they did different things.
yes there was another post i dont know the thread look around in general scout or predator or assasin...it lists the colors and types and dmg effects from a log parser.

Colors are simply used to identify the different lines of poisons. I am unsure why... but for instance the Goo line is Yellow.

They have slightly different effects but I think its more of a choice of flavor than anything. Some have higher initial damage and lower procs and the other way around.

I have been trying to search for that poison thread that Javabean mentioned but the search function is slammed right now..

***EDIT*** Found it - And correction, Goo line is Orange.. Kinda looks yellow IMO

http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=31&message.id=1500

Message Edited by Ravi on 12-17-2004 01:13 PM

Message Edited by Ravi on 12-17-2004 01:14 PM

Message Edited by Ravi on 12-17-2004 01:19 PM

Poisons are a Rogue/Predators best friend. They can easily make the difference in any battle.

Thanks to agra and some of my own testing, I can tell you what the lvl 50 poisons do. All of the poisons with similar names but higher/lower skills follow the same principals, but with larger/lower numbers.

If your poison goes off before a DoT wears off, it resets the DoT ( does not stack). DoT lasts for 4 ticks.

YELLOW-High initial dmg + small DoT:

Great for getting some extra dmg on mobs that dont resist poison often or with someone else in the party using poison ( no stacking as far as I know). The dmg as a whole is low, but most of the dmg is front loaded. If you find your DoT being ineffective because of another person using poison or any other reason, then this is the way to go.

Caress of the phantom ( 50 skill)

23-27 initial + 7 DoT

Caress of the Spectre ( 100 skill)

62 initial + 13 DoT

GREEN- low intial dmg + high dmg DoT

Great for poison resistant mobs that ensure the DoT lasts the entire 4 ticks without being overwritten

Blight of the Eventide ( 50 skill)

7-9 initial + 18 DoT

Blight of the Evening ( 100 skill)

25 initial + 36 DoT

RED- balanced DD and DoT(heavier DD than orange)

This is a balanced poison. Good initial dmg, good DoT. Seems to activate very often, but does less overall dmg. IT gives the illusion of double procing better than most of the other poisons because at least half the time, you re-proc on the second DoT. This makes it hard to notice the DoT isnt really another double proc. Turn off attack after the initial to see.

Acidic Massage ( 50 skill)

18 initial dmg + 10 DoT

Mordant Strike ( 100 skill)

40-48 initial dmg + 20 DoT

ORANGE-Balanced DD and DoT(heavier DoT than Red)

Basically the same as red, only minor difference in dmg.

Acidic Goo ( 50 skill)

15-22 initial dmg + 13 dmg ( 4 times)

Mordant Goo ( 100 skill)

33 initial dmg + 26 DoT

Caustic Goo (150 skill)

70 initial dmg + 58 DoT

PURPLE- very low initial dmg + very high DoT

This is great poison when you are getting resisted alot. You just need to land it once, and it works for 4 rounds. The problem is when you arent getting resisted, you overwrite your own poison alot of the time and lose alot of the nice dmg this poison does. When fighting groups of mobs, it may be good to attack one until this poison takes effect then move to the next ( a bit hesitant about that idea).

Crypt Sludge ( 50 skill)

4 initial dmg + 22 DoT

Catacomb Sludge ( 100 skill)

8-9 initial dmg + 44 DoT

================================================== =======================================

Those are the basic lvl 50 poisons. The numbers indicate what agra's logs show and what I have experieced. There isnt alot of difference in dmg when you fight harder mobs, but resist rates increase. your numbers may vary slightly, but the point is to show how the poisons work, not exactly how much they do ( although the numbers are actual).

Its up to you to determine which to use.

-Each poison has a color. All same color poisons act the same ( like acidic massage and mordant strike). Higher level poisons do much more dmg. Mordant Strike did 53+20x4 for me at level 20.

-Poison procs when your weapon hits, however one handed weapons proc much more often than dual wield. Dual wield weapons do much more melee dmg ( 125% of one handed dmg). The result ends up roughly the same ( dual wield is only slightly more dmging after poison). This is unconfirmed but seems to be the case.
got this from another Forum . Ive been using poison since about lvl 8 its like haveing 2 more hits per round and a dot to boot

Can Predators use poisons? Or do I have to wait until I become an Assassin or Ranger?I have bought 2 poisons (one for each activate slot) and I have to the 12-hour buff...The only thing I wonder is: Does the poison damage show as poison damage, or does it simply add to your melee?
It shows as "Your poison does 22 damage to enemy". You can use poison if your poisioning skill is high enough for the poison. Check under skill and check the poison to see if you can. I think you need something like 50 in it to be able to apply it which should be around the time you become a citizen.Does anyone know if two poisons stack as they should, or if they cancel eachother out?

OK I have found most fo the npc that sell but they either sell, 5, 50 or 200 lvl poisons, if i am at 109/109 how do i get higher and where do i find lvl 100 poisons?

Only one person answered the the question about stacking poisons, and it wasnt even in this post. So, with that one person, its not enough to go on. I can stack 5 of them, but i have no clue if that really does anything or not, there has to be others out there that do know, right?

Mordant Goo is my favorite, and have been using it throughout my 20's. I'm about to hit 30, which will allow me to use Caustic Goo. I can't wait... *evil grin*

Portis Bonham in The Sirens Song, the building just north of the Inn in Qeynos Harbor, sells both Mordant (1s 28c) and Caustic (5s 12c). Mordant Goo can also be found on the merchants in Thundering Steppes (Dock, Thundermist Village). Just scroll down the general merchant's list. I found Caustic Goo at the dock in Enchanted Lands. I'm sure both can be found on other general merchants that sell higher tier items.
