<DIV>Here's a positive: With a Backshot, Wounding Arrow, Open shot combo I can usually take a level 22-24 mob down to about half HP before even getting touched (for reference I am level 23). That's also with 4-5 poisons stacked as well but those last forever and are cheap considering the benefit. For a real tough fight you can slap on an Impede and walk backwards to fire off another round of Open Shot. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Another Positive: Yesterday I was in a group when I hit 22.6 and got Corner (dumb name considering the nature of the skill) and the group commented that the mobs were going down faster. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Rangers can solo well but rock in groups. Here is my group combo.</DIV> <DIV>1. Be in Hunt mode when the pull comes. </DIV> <DIV>2. Shadow Blade to start.</DIV> <DIV>3. Impale to lower pierce resist</DIV> <DIV>4. Corner to lower Defenses</DIV> <DIV>5. Back up to bow range and fire off a Back Shot and a Wounding Arrow (since by now the tank should have enough agro to hold the mob). Can also hit an Open Shot but that skill is too **mods 4 teh win!!1!** slow</DIV> <DIV>6. Step back in and spam the ambush, quick strike, and Pierce attacks. </DIV> <DIV>7. Step back for another Back Shot if the fight is long enough. Or even stealth up and hit another shadow blade.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I gotta test Shadow Flame again tonight since i made 23. The damage it was doing before was crappy in comparison to Shadow Blade.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I really see no significant negatives about the Ranger class. Sure, there are things I wish were better (availability of Adept books, variety of Bows) but overall I think the class rocks.</DIV>
<DIV>Woot! Great thread idea cause I LOVE being a ranger. I'll probably post on this thread a few times cause I'm at work and love to talk about being a ranger lol.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>First of all, my dps is awesome and the bow graphics rock! I'm only level 24 atm so I only have 4 bow specials so far but I have a great time with them. Last night I pulled aggro from the tank using only my bow specials. I guess mob don't like it when you do 500+ damage in the span of 4 seconds. lol.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My RL friend said he'd be fighting a mob with me in a group and I'd step out of his line of vision. By the time he was thinking "where did Umer go?" he would see a volley of 6 or 7 arrows sticking out of the mob. I thought that was cool.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I personally get bored waiting for tanks to pull to group. So I try to pull every opportunity I get. When we're camping quest mob, I like to imagine what other peeps are thinking when I say brb and they see me start running through a field of kiil on sight mob and 30 seconds later the quest specific mob is pulled to the tank with almost instant aggro. I've been grouped with people who are strict to their "let the tank pull mentality" and often change their minds after I convince them to let me pull a few. It just takes being really careful and know your surrounding in your pull path. Being an ace at FPS games, I'm really good at turning and running backwords so I could bow. If I'm not pulling, I sometimes follow the puller and hit the archery button while he's pulling the mob back to the group, just for fun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I usually pull with Back Shot, Open Shot, Snare, then I hit a Trick shot as the mob is getting close to the tank, then I hit Stalk right after the tank taunts. Trick is to watch the tank to make his Taunt motion. I completely lose aggro then hit a Shadowblade. Open a starter chain with Lucky Break and hit Corner ?(dirty tricks line), then Impale. Hopefully I'll get a Ringing Blow on the combat wheel. I then step back a few steps and hit wounding arrow and Open Shot. At this point, I've landed all my debuffs. I come back with a Shrouded Strike and Shadowflame. Then I'll hit the aggro reducer (name?), then a Sneak Attack and Pierce. After that, if the mob is still alive, I'll just throw some shrouded strike/shadow flame/sneak attack/Pierces and try to open some more HO's.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Well that is all for now. I'll try to add some more interesting things later. I would love to hear about higher level bow combos if any of you ubers are posting.</DIV>

<DIV>Rangers can dish out some pretty impressive DPS as long as they have position for all of their archery and flanking attacks. It's also a lot of fun shooting arrows into mobs if you're into that sort of thing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Between Backshot, Wounding Arrow, Open Shot, and all the procs from my Blade Flurry and poison, I can usually bring a level 23ish solo mob down to 60% health before it even gets to me, then it's all about Ringing Blows. Rangers can cut down solo mobs pretty easily at level 24 if they know how to use their skills properly.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When I'm in a group, usually the tank is pulling, so I'll stand in our campsite and wait for the pull to come in. I've started targetting the tank through much of a busy fight, because skills will "cast through" a targetted player if that player is targetting a mob. This way, if there's a cluster of mobs around the tank, I just keep the tank targetted and I'll always be attacking their target. Otherwise, if it's a single mob, I'll use my /assist macro (so I can monitor it's health) and start working my skills on the mob. My chain of attacks typically goes something like this: Corner, Wounding Arrow, Backshot, Bleed, Stalk, Shadow Blade, Shrouded Strike, Shadowflame, Corner, Shrouded Strike+Shadowflame until dead. I have an aversion to Impale when I'm in a group; it seems to use a LOT of power and typically isn't worth the investment for me. I'll change things up once in a while, depending on the situation.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Probably the coolest part about being a Ranger, is using your specials to fire a massive volley of arrows at a mob, and seeing the mob run around with a dozen arrows sticking out of various parts of it's body. :smileyhappy:</DIV>
<DIV>At level 30 is what a Ranger is all about. Over half of the time battling group mobs is spent firing arrow after arrow into the mobs back. Finally... when I enter melee, it's because I CHOOSE TO. And yeah, nothing is a substitute for that :smileyvery-happy: I LOVE watching a mob go down with 5 arrows sticking in it's back. So Satisfying...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by Ravi on <span class=date_text>12-13-2004</span> <span class=time_text>08:19 AM</span>
<DIV>Hey Valeron,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Your chain looks really good, but I would reconsider using Impale if I were you. It does use a lot of power for a medium damage attack, but what you have to consider is the debuff portion of it, which increases your damage from piercing arrows and piercing melee...I haven't parsed any logs because I"m lazy, but it LOOKS like I do a good bit more damage if I keep Impale going sporadically (1 -2 times per fight)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>just an idea <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I'm pretty happy with being a ranger. The dps is fun, especially with Dual Wield, Blade Flurry, and Poison. :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Last night, I just got Makeshift Arrow. Defintely cool. No more running out of arrows in the field. (For those of you who haven't gotten that skill yet...trigger it WHENEVER it comes up, no matter what you're doing. Never hurts to have a few spare arrows hiding in the bottom of your pack.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I love my bow. Way to much fun there. Decent enough armor. Skills to avoid agro if you've [Removed for Content] something off. Skills to drop you back into Stealth quickly in combat. (Stalk & Shrouded Strike - Just remember to turn off auto-attack!) The abiltiy to help your group find the correct HO when it's triggered. I realize some of htis stuff is generic Scout/Predator stuff...but I'm still happy with my choice. As I gain a few more levels, I bet I'm even more happy with a Ranger.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lulen of Steamfont, Hunter of Gnolls</DIV>
I find that using debuff first is the best corse of action. I'll wait for the tank to pull and use bleed, corner, impale, then back up for wounding arrow and back shot. Then I'll run up and use shrouded strike and shadowblade. The debuffs made my back shot damage go from 200-250 to 275+ The max damage I have delt is 296.

<DIV>Be careful with Makeshift Arrow...it can become an addiction. I have a 10-slot bag FULL of those **mods 4 teh win!!1!** things. I need to go to Arrow-summoners Anonymous.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"Hello, My name is Vecsus and I'm an Arrow-aholic. It's been 9 minutes since I last hit that key and I've already got it queued up again".</DIV>

I see a lot of your combos not starting out with all the debuffs, and my question is 'why'? You can use stalk and shrouded strike to get stealth, and hit the shadowblade during combat. Stick in the debuffs first- corner, impale, bleed, backup and wounging arrow, then (now that all debuffs are active, drop your bombs) backshot and openshot (while you walk back in), refresh your corner, then shrouded strike->shadowblade for massive damage. Procede to pile on the pain.My point is this: all of your attacks (and all of your group's attacks) hit harder when your debuffs are active, they should be in effect before you drop your bombs, else you're depriving yourself and group of maximum potential. To keep it positive: my point is this- the ranger debuffs rock!
