Well I tried out my new bow today and wanted to see how the ranged fighting style was in this game and I would like to say I am very dissapointed. I thought it would be fun cause ive always enjoyed archer type classes. Well I found out that they are using the same old cookiee cutter aspect that all the other mmorpgs use such as shadowbane,diablo2,horizons,etc this is when all you do is press a simple button and it "auto" shoots arrows.DAOC is Dark Age Of Camelot its a mmorpg similar to EQ2 but its a bit older about over 4-5 years older. But the whole archer classes is alot more realistic in DAOC you can pull back the bow with your hands and you can hear it wind up and you actually have to aim with it in first person view but it auto hits the target of course and as you shoot the arrow you can hear it fire and see the arrows stuck in the target.I wish the developers of EQ2 would implement this as an optionel interface or at least put in more effort to make archery more fun and realistic insted of the standerd cookiee cutter format that there using like in all the other mmorpgs.I like EQ2 alot more then DAOC but I really miss the DAOC archer class I had a hunter he was real fun I made him pure bow level 50 bow hunter. If the devs of EQ2 could make this a daoc style archer type its not gonna hurt them if they copy cause EQ2 has allready copied alot of things from DAOC allready such as currency and classes.Anyways I doubt any of this will be brought up cause I seem to be the only one who does not like the archer aspects of EQ2 i was thinking of starting a petition but thats not gonna be any use since they have better things to do like fix the current bugs.

<DIV>While it would be more 'real' im quite happy with archery as it is.</DIV>
<DIV>Not to nitpick, but when I use my bow I see my toon nock the arrow and pull back the bowstring before he fires. I also see the arrow fly into the target and stick into it for a few seconds afterward (just like DAoC). Hell, when you use Open Shot you see a whole barrage of arrows sticking out of the target. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As far as "aiming," you never had to aim in DAoC, any more than you do in EQ2. Sure, you could move your bow up and down, but it had no effect on the trajectory (and you can do the same thing graphically here if I'm not mistaken). There are things that DAoC definitely does better with regard to archery; damage bonuses for being higher than your target, for instance. I hate being up on a hillside in EQ2, trying to fire on a bear that's lumbering at the bottom of the ill, and getting the "too far away" message. Apparently the archery designers are unfamiliar with basic physics (though the more likely reason is that they've never fired an actual bow in their lives). The line of sight issues are also pretty absurd, but that's ALWAYS been a problem with SOE engines. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not sure what level your Ranger is, but I think you'll be surprised by the late-20s at how similar archery is to DAoC. Lots of attacks from stealth, trick shots, etc. </DIV>

<DIV>Speaking of that, how much does it cost to get into Archery? :p</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh, and Bozack, I still enjoy your posts. You need to post more. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by blitz on <span class=date_text>12-08-2004</span> <span class=time_text>11:51 AM</span>

I like Archery as is. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>
