This quote is what I wanted to say. Please EQ2 officials, don't say Legolas is a Ranger (dont remember where is this recent interview). He is a pure warrior elite bowman, not a warrior whose job is finding the ways behind enemy lines.Historically, rangers as "Long range warrior" means a warrior who goes far behind through enemy lines, a commando one. He can be a sniper, but that's not what define him.Legolas is not an elven SPECIALISED in commando (else all elven have stealth and good seeing), he is specialised in bow combat, and secondary in dual knives.Aragorn IS specialised in infiltrations (he is a Ranger), secondary in sword combat, tertiary in healing, and only fourth in archery.

Message Edited by Vifarc on 05-18-2006 08:32 AM

Message Edited by Vifarc on 05-18-2006 08:36 AM

Taken that way, no. In D&D terms, though, and which is the basis for class set up in EverQuest games, Legolas is an archery specialized ranger. He has nasty feats like Precise Shot and Point Blank Shot, Advanced Two-Weapon Fighting and I'm sure I could find others if I looked over my ranger's sheet that match him. Aragorn I would say is more Fighter with some of the new Scout base class from Complete Adventurer(? I think it's that one) mixed in.

Else in weaponry, Legolas is not a good scout (for his level and for his race), then he is not a Ranger. And why a warrior would be forbidden to take the Ranger weapon feats??Aragorn shows he is skilled in many outdoor things first, what is impossible for d&d warriors.

LOL Kae And I still have to disagree. The new starting Scout class is closer to the idea of someone being skilled in the outdoorsman fields. D&D Ranger focus either goes to archery or two-weapon fighting and deals somewhat in tracking, but less so than the Scout class. That's why I think Aragorn is more Fighter/Scout. And nothing says he can't take certain feats. The beauty of 3e is that so long as you can make the prerequisites, you can take anything. Heck, I currently have a Blade Dancer/Sorceror who has Two-Weapon Fighting.

I'm rusty on my D&D rules (I haven't played PnP since 3E came out), but ranger was always a warrior class in that game, IIRC. That alone pretty much sets it apart from the EQ version. They get free Ambidexterity and Two-Weapon Fighting feats if they wear studded leather or lighter, and class skill access to things like tracking and animal ju-ju, but at the end of the day, they're a type of fighter.

That's it, I'm gonna quit, I think I'll go play GURPS, at least Steve Jackson hasn't lost his vision of what an RPG is SUPPOSED to be... DANG that Gary Gygax....
