View Full Version : Anyone use PotM while soloing?

I was playing my Troub alt yesterday and re-read the spell description on Precision of the Maestro and figured this might actually be useful when soloing. Considering that our auto attack damage isn't that high, with the right spell combination this could do a lot of damage fast. So any of you got any advice on it? <div></div>

<DIV>My impression is that it's iffy. Because you can't move after you cast it, you lose the freedom to stun/backstab AND get out of the way of adds. (Adds=dead on my Troub.) If your int is already close to capped, it's not going to make a great deal of difference, and with a recast time of 240 seconds, it's not really going to be an effective soloing technique. Plus it does have a two second cast time, which I think is too much time to waste not actively trying to kill the thing. I actually rely on my auto-attack quite a bit, as I have two fabled weapons and solo with my Rousing Opus running. I don't claim to be an awesome soloer, even in relic/fabled with Master spells I have trouble soloing whites, but then, I hate kiting so ymmv.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>~Alexis Silversong, 70 Troubadour of Mistmoore</DIV>

<DIV>It is effective against large groups of 4 or more, but no so much on solo encounters.</DIV> <DIV>Use jester's cap on yourself first (when you obtain it, of course) then precision. Begin to cycle through all encounter AE spells. You should have 4 encounter debuffs, 1 instant cast interrupt and 1 AE damage. If you click off the encounter debuffs then you can recast them a second time before precision ends. This is usually enough to defeat a group of weaker opponents.</DIV>
Meh. If an extra 2k damage is going to make or break the fight....yeah it can be useful. But ultimately for soloing it will likely just slow you down due to the root component. It doesn't help to beat the mob 5 seconds earlier, if you're still rooted for an additional 5 seconds, if you catch my meaning. So used wisely, yeah, of course.<div></div>

Also, re: the root, you can turn the spell off by toggling, so once you don't need it, turn it off.</P> <P>I use precision before the pull for soloing a group of mobs. I then pull the most powerful mob with Kian's and leave it up. This will proc precise note on the encounter and debuff the mobs for more spells. Then I will use Guviena's (mental debuff) and hit my instant cast AE knockdown. After this I will cycle demoralizing processional, disheartening discante and zander's repeatedly in this manner. Cast a debuff and queue next debuff, then toggle first debuff off (while second debuff is casting) and queue up the third debuff. Rinse and repeat until all the adds are dead and the big guy is still up. Then cast single target debuffs until the song ends and then can go business as usual.</P> <P>I use this a lot in raids too on encounters of 3+. It helps the casters out and allows me to stay near what my normal cycle would keep me at for dps. I consistently parse around 750 zonewide no matter the zone and spike to as much as 1100 from time to time. I figure that will go up more when I secure some relic legs and a GDoH.</P>
<div></div>It definetly adds to your dps, pulling with it can be nice, and yes don't forget you can toggle it off once you ve cast your debuffs and spells. But it's not a must use, as you will do the same damage on a single mob if you wait 10 secs to start your next casting cycle. As for group mobs, it's the group damage we don't have ( what? alin's? what's that? ) Nah kidding alin is nice when you have several spell procs on. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Triag on <span class=date_text>11-09-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:59 PM</span>

<DIV>I do pretty much exactly what Forgotten described, makes a fight with 5 linked even con group mobs into a 15 second or less battle. Same technique with linked raid mobs (when the situation allows).</DIV><p>Message Edited by Hajji on <span class=date_text>11-10-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:12 AM</span>

<DIV>You misunderstand, what i mean was: If i cast PotM and then Alin's group nuke, will PotM proc on EVERY mob hit by alins, or jsut my target? i'm going to have to test this...</DIV>

<DIV>Does it proc off every tick of Kian's or just the initial?</DIV>

<DIV>I tried this tonight on a group of 4... man does it help heaps. Start with PotM. Pull with Kian's, then Alin's, then cycle through demoralising/discante/zanders, cancelling as soon as they land... everytime they land, it procs precise note on the encounter. PotM parsed 6k damage on that fight... Must get Master version ASAP...</DIV>
